Strixhaven Week 1
Project Overview
Wizards of the Coast has begun releasing online web fiction for Magic: the Gathering once again! It is our goal on the Voice of All podcast to bring these stories to life through audio.
This week we are casting for roles in the first two Strixhaven stories: Class is in Session and A Cry of Magic. Strixhaven is their newest set focusing on the tropes of magical schools and we have many major roles to cast. You can read the stories here:

If you're interested in hearing our past works, you can listen to all of them here:
https://www.voiceofallmtg.com/
We can also be found on Spotify, Soundcloud, Stitcher, YouTube, iTunes, and Google Podcasts! We are looking to keep up with the release of Wizards' stories as best as possible and will release our version the second following Friday, so expect to be cast this week and have your lines to me within a few days. This schedule may be slightly different for the time being as they are releasing two stories a week, but our schedule will remain one a week.
As a general casting note, I do not typically have any voice requirements in mind for characters. I would much rather hear your interpretations and choose from among them.
Payments listed are for this particular set of stories. If they appear in future chapters, the value there may differ based on number of lines, but all chapters will be paid. All chapters and characters will be paid at once near the end of the set's production.

Twin brother of Rowan Kenrith, Will is a prince of Eldraine and a planeswalker. They travel together throughout the multiverse, learning and fighting. Now they have been invited to join the school of Strixhaven, where they can hone their magical might. Will is quiet, bookish, and analytical. He's very cautious and wants to do everything the proper way. His magic powers focus on ice.
Will is a planeswalker and one of the main characters of Strixhaven. As he appears in future chapters and stories, you will be asked to reprise the role.
A Scottish accent is preferred, but not required.
"The histories say Strixhaven has existed there for millennia. I'm sure it can wait a few more minutes for us... Or, possibly hours." [anxiously debating what book he should bring on their trip]
"Okay, enough of this - Rowan, come on. We need to speak to—well, some kind of administrator. A schoolmaster, perhaps. There are classes to join, and surely books we need to acquire, and—"
"Okay.. Maybe it is our fight." [growling]
Twin sister of Will Kenrith, Rowan is a princess of Eldraine and a planeswalker. They travel together throughout the multiverse, learning and fighting. Now they have been invited to join the school of Strixhaven, where they can hone their magical might. Rowan is brash, excitable, and eager for a fight. She's the outgoing one of the pair and would rather get into the thick of things first and figure out what to do as she goes. Her magic powers focus on lightning.
Rowan is a planeswalker and one of the main characters of Strixhaven. As she appears in future chapters and stories, you will be asked to reprise the role.
A Scottish accent is preferred, but not required.
"How are you still not ready?" [impatient]
[laughing] "Will, you'd have some fun if you actually tried it!"
"That's what you came here for, Will. But I'm not you. We may be twins, but I'm allowed to live my own life."
Kasmina is a teacher here at Strixhaven and a planeswalker, seen before only briefly during War of the Spark. Past text outside of stories says:
```Kasmina is the leader of an ancient, secret order of Planeswalkers, a shadowy cabal with mysterious aims. Her larger goals are unknown, but her recent obsession is recruitment. Her preferred method is to identify what she calls "embers", non-ignited Planeswalkers. She helps these mages to discover their potential, even if it means causing trauma to ignite their spark, and then indoctrinates them in the ways of her order.```
Because of this it's possible she is a villain in the making, but at this point it is unclear. For now she appears, a quiet, intelligent teacher, happy to welcome new students to her alma mater, if somewhat mysterious in her ways.
Kasmina is a planeswalker and one of the main characters of Strixhaven. As she appears in future chapters and stories, you will be asked to reprise the role.
"The Stormwright Texts were a lot more thorough." [idly commenting on Will's choice of book]
"Welcome to Strixhaven." [revealing a sprawling campus she hopes they will love]
"I have other matters to attend to. Look for an owlin called Mavinda Sharpbeak. She will help you get settled in."
Lukka is a military-trained man in his late 30s from the plane of Ikoria. There he was a captain of the First Special Intercept Squad (the "Specials"), an elite monster fighting team tasked with keeping his home country safe. When his team was slaughtered by a monster which then bonded with him, he became a wanted man. Rather than learning to live with his new abilities and coexist with the monsters, he chose to use them as weapons, vowing to take revenge and rule his kingdom with an unstoppable army. He was defeated, and his planeswalker spark ignited, casting him to another world. He retains the power to control beasts.
In this story he has been dragged to the base of our new villains, the Oriq. We don't yet know their goals or their methods, only that they want Lukka to do some work for them.
Lukka is a planeswalker and one of the main characters of Strixhaven. As he appears in future chapters and stories, you will be asked to reprise the role. He has only 5 words in this story, hence the low pay this week, but we expect him to have a larger role in future chapters.
“I was trained to fight monsters, not runts like you.”
"First thing we teach in the Specials: 'Always be certain of your footing.' "
“Enemies it is, then.” [threatening]
The orc Rootha is the main character and the first-person narrator of our second story this week A Cry of Magic. She is a student at the Prismari college at Strixhaven, the school for creating art with magic. Generations of her family before her have been famed artists and her mother the most renowned of all. She has grown up in the shadow of this great artist, trying to live up to those standards. Nothing she does feels right though, and her natural magic is destructive, such that she nearly injured her brother when she was young and was subsequently shunned by everyone else.
Rootha is unsatisfied with any work she has made thus far and exhibits signs of ADHD throughout her narration. She is despondent and has resigned herself to failure, when Dean Nassari steps in...
"I don't have anything prepared for a critique, and I don't have a good excuse. I'm not sure what else to say." [Fully prepared to be yelled at by a teacher]
"Fantastic. Good to know how average I am. And I suppose these mages have all grown up to lead happy lives?" [sneering]
[Narration Test]
The Opus Walk is deserted at night, but the witchlights burn along the path, guiding my way. I stagger past rows and rows of past art projects, beautiful and impossible, gifted to the college by grateful students. Everyone leaves something behind when they graduate—it's tradition.
It isn't hard to find my mother's. I know her magic by sight.
Her greatest creation: an endless waterfall pouring out of nothing and disappearing back into nowhere. The magic is flawless, but easy to disrupt. With a touch of my fingers, I feel all the ways it's held together for decades. I could unwind it thread by thread, or I could just smash it.
Vindictive glee rises inside me. Samara Squallheart is famous, beloved, but her work will be just as easily undone as her worthless daughter's.
Uvilda is a djinn, and one of the deans of Prismari, the college of magical art here at Strixhaven. She is every snotty school administrator you've ever met, cold, looking down her nose at you, and controlling. She feigns care and wanting to help Rootha, but is demanding and forces tight restrictions on her that do nothing but stress her out.
"Am I boring you, Miss Squallheart?"
"I'm not here to discourage you, Miss Squallheart. On the contrary. I want to enable you to do the best work you can here at Prismari College."
"And out of respect for your mother and in deference to the talent I know you possess, I'll allow you a chance to redeem yourself."
Nassari is a nonbinary efreet, and a dean of Prismari, the college of magical art here at Strixhaven. Where Uvilda is cold, Nassari is warm, literally floating on flames as they walk. They sense the destructive arts in Rootha and want to foster them. Though certainly more understanding, Nassari is commanding, clearly in control of themself and the situation at all times - a walking template for Rootha to aspire to.
"Well, young minds are wont to create elaborate tales. I think it's a good sign. Active imaginations, and all that."
"Ugh, call me Nassari. 'Dean' was my father's name."
[Wait, really?]
"No... I'm not sure why I said that. Regardless, call me Nassari. Efreet don't stand on ceremony."
"I'm not going to throw you out of Prismari, Rootha Squallheart. And neither is Dean Uvilda. If you want to leave, you have to do that yourself."
A vampire friend of Rootha's - or former friend, anyway. They haven't hung out or talked much since they joined their respective colleges. Felisa joined Silverquill, the school of eloquence, and is a Vainglory - her powers focus on manipulating emotions. It's implied that they were briefly lovers, a flame which Felisa tries to reignite to disastrous results.
"I know you're in there, Rooth. I can sense the melancholia." [calling from the other side of the door]
"You have a whole extra room! How is that equitable? I'll have to complain to the dean . . . it's completely unacceptable that I don't have a studio of my own, even though I can't paint to save my life. Oh, were you working?"
"Yeah... Not as pretty as you, though. [a warm laugh] I don't even know why you're here. If I was as pretty as you, I wouldn't even bother with university." [seductive]
