Spoken Mirror: A Xenogears Fandub-Wave 4 (The Final Wavening)

Project Overview

More characters will be added in Waves, so check back now and then! You may audition for as many as you like, but I ask you keep it to one audition per character.

I played Xenogears when I was 8 years old in 1999 (it came out in 1998 though). I have wanted to bring it to life in some way for over 20 years, and I finally figured out an accessible way to do it. I want to do a fandub narration of the script and characters, fold it into a mod and make a voiced version of the game.

That said, check out the linked video of the opening cinematic to get a feel for what you are getting into (The narrative takes you for a pretty wild ride), and just have fun with it! There will be some battle type sounds and improvs being done, but that's an issue for later, and intended to have fun. If you can sound close to the original voice, that is a perk but it is not a requirement, I will pick the people who simply sound the best to me, or closest to my vision.

Auditions for additional characters will be held in waves as I complete recording and compilations of the lines happening in each segment, so check back frequently if you are interested in possibly doing additional characters!   • Wave-3 Auditions are now closed.

    Wave-3 came and went, and what a wild ride it was. Over 1000 auditions came in from over 350-400 people and this is something far beyond my wildest dreams for this project.

    Casting will be done live in our Discord tonight, and anyone who wishes to attend may do so. We have a nice community of actors and professionals, and we welcome anyone to come be a part of that as well as Xenogears if chosen (and also if not).

Erich is the father of Elly and is a high ranking Solarian military officer. Erich is a stern but reasonable man, who cares very deeply for his wife Medena, and his daughter. He loves her so much he even lies and pseudo betrays his home nation to protect Fei, but it was really so Elly would not hate him. 

Erich is a tragic character, driven by oath and duty, but bound by his love for his family. Mid to low range, go wild.

Emerald is a nano-machine colony created by Kim, Fei's incarnation from the Zeboim era (4000 years prior to game events). She is a kind young woman (who transforms into an adult if you complete her sidequest towards the end of the game) and she is very infantile and not very well spoken. 

Comparable to Leah from Chrono Cross, Emeralda is a highly lethal and skilled fighter, but she is a dog on a leash for the most part. mid female range here.

Gaspar is met very suddenly and then more or less isn't seen again, but he is a character who carries a certain level of gravitas and deserved to be individually casted.

The actual Karen is a kind and compassionate woman who loves her son, and dies because of it. Mid range, make it spooky.

The son of Ol Man Bal and the father of Maria, one of the main cast members. Nikolai is a brilliant scientist who was forced by the Solaris Government to reduce the input delay between a pilot and their gear. 

He does this by fusing them into their gear, and also replicates this process on himself. He is a good man underneath, as he has been brainwashed by Solaris. You will need to be able to be very harsh in tone but also very soft as he switches periodically.

Taura/Melchior is one of the 3 sages of Shevat, the innovator of nano machine technology, and the teacher of Krellian in Nano-Machine science. 

Taura is a quiet hermit who helps Fei and Elly when they crash land in the forest. He also provides Fei with an SSRI bracelet that allows him to channel the power of Id in Weltall.

The WAVE Existence is a 5th dimensional being that was trapped by the Zohar modifer core of Deus, and is trapped there. The WAVE is the power source for every gear on the planet, except the Xenogears, and the Omnigears. 

The WAVE existence is effectively God, and I plan to use anywhere between 3-5 voice actors for this role. The plan is to blend the voices over each other and for each line, have one voice be more prominent than the others interchangeably. 

Effects for this are welcome and encouraged. Multiple voices in one take are perfectly acceptable also and also highly encouraged (but not required).

Fei is the main protagonist of the story. He is a self taught artist and martial artist, and was brought to the village of Lahan 3 years prior to the story's beginning, and wakes up with no memory of who he is or was. He is adopted by Chief Lee and becomes fast friends with Timothy, Alice, and Dan, as well as the rest of the village. 

Fei is 18 years old but is a very brooding young man. He is often relaxed but can very easily shift to serious when need be. Fei pilots the gear, Weltall (Vell-tall), and then later the Omnigear, Welltall-2, and then finally the titular Xenogears! Fei's lore is so insane it would take me hours to write it all, so I will be giving the VA for this limited sparks of information (but they are welcome to research the character themselves if they wish). 


Fei is an extremely complex character and is prone to bouts of emotion, so being able to quickly shift will score you a ton of points. The voice reference I have for Fei is the male speaking in this video, happy auditioning! Skip to :50 for his voice ref below.

Elly is a part of the main cast of characters and more or less shares the role of most important character with Fei. She is a young officer from a city called Solaris that exists behind a dimensional gate in the sky. The Solarian people conduct operations on the surface and abduct surface-dwellers (who they refer to as lambs) to serve as slaves in the Solarian labor force, or infantry (cannon fodder) in their military. Elly is a very precise fighter and is intended to be one of the offense casters of the group, as she has a vast array of Ether (magical) capability. She pilots the gear Vierge, and later the Omnigear, El-Regrs.

Elly is an EXTREMELY complex character with a ton of lines, and is often very stern until she feels the need to be caring and gentle, almost motherly. Her voice reference can be found here, she is the woman who is speaking.

Citan Uzuki is the smartypants of the group. He is a tinkerer of junk and appreciater of bad jokes. Married to Yui and the father of Midori, Citan seems to have far more experience than your standard 28 year old man would. He is both an accomplished Martial Artist and Sword Master (though his sword usage does not come up till way late in the story). Citan seems to know everyone and has a hand in many pots, as well as many secrets, but he has the good of his friends at heart. He pilots the gear, Heimdall, and later the Omnigear, Fenrir.

The voice reference I have for Citan is in this video and begins at :42. Citan is an extremely complex character and will develop as the story goes on, but I want to work with the VA's on the character growth as time goes on (Citan has thousands of lines). Happy auditioning!
