Star Driver Unofficial English Dub

Star Driver Unofficial English Dub

Project Overview

Hi everyone! I’m directing an unofficial English dub of Star Driver: Takuto of the Radiance.

The anime originally aired in Fall 2010, and even after 16 years, it has never received an official English dub. This project is a passion‑driven effort to finally bring the series to life in English and give voice actors the chance to create fresh, original interpretations of these characters.

This is a non‑paid, nonprofit fan project. I completely understand if that affects your ability to participate, but if you’re interested in contributing to a high‑quality, collaborative dub production, I’d love to hear your audition. You must be ages 18+ to audition. This is a rated TV-14 anime.

Project Transparency

This project is built on clear communication, honesty, and respect.

All cast members will always be kept informed about scheduling, progress updates, expectations, and any production changes. My goal is to maintain a supportive environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and fully aware of how the project is moving forward.

Requirements

Voice Acting Experience

Any level of experience is welcome—comic dubs, skits, narration, fan projects, etc. You should be comfortable recording in software such as Audacity, Reaper, Logic Pro, Adobe Audition, or similar.

Professional Microphone Setup

To maintain consistent audio quality across the cast, you must have:

  • A condenser microphone

  • An audio interface

  • A quiet recording environment

Phone mics, headset mics, and laptop mics will not be accepted. This project aims for production‑level quality, not casual fandub standards.

Live Voice Direction Sessions

There will be one‑on‑one or small group live VO sessions. I will always do my best to schedule around your availability.

If you cannot attend a session, open communication is essential so we can coordinate line submissions and keep production moving smoothly.

Ruri Makina embodies the everyday warmth and stability of Southern Cross Isle. In a story filled with cosmic battles and secret organizations, she represents the normal life worth protecting. She's known for her bright personality and close friendships. She’s the childhood best friend of Wako Agemaki and a familiar face to Takuto and Sugata. Ruri brings comedic energy and emotional contrast to the cast — often reacting big, loving hard, and getting jealous fast. Her role supports the grounded school‑life side of Star Driver, giving warmth, humor, and youthful charm to scenes outside the Cybody conflict.

Personality Overview - Warm & Approachable - Down-to-Earth - Supportive Friend - Softly Upbeat - Non-Combatant Civilian

Aragon Simone is the impeccably composed secretary of Otona Bank and a trusted employee under Watanabe Kanako. Beneath her professional exterior, she serves as the captain of the Glittering Crux’s Otona Division—a role that reveals her sharp intellect, strategic mind, and unwavering resourcefulness. Though she presents herself as cool and distant, Simone is far more complex than her polished demeanor suggests.

Personality & Inner Conflict:

  • Highly Intelligent & Resourceful: Simone excels at reading situations, anticipating outcomes, and executing plans with precision.

  • Resolute & Loyal: Her dedication to the Glittering Crux—and to the people she considers friends—is fierce and unshakable.

  • Cold Exterior, Hidden Depth: She often appears detached, but this is a mask. Beneath it lies a multifaceted young woman wrestling with conflicting loyalties.

  • Conflicted Devotion: As Kanako’s secretary and subordinate, Simone feels both loyalty and a quiet, simmering resentment—born from expectations, pressure, and the weight of her double life.

  • Vulnerability Through Affection: Her crush on Takashi reveals a softer, more human side she rarely allows others to see. It’s a crack in her armor that exposes longing, insecurity, and the desire to be understood.

Voice & Performance Notes: Simone’s voice should feel controlled, calm, and subtly layered—a young woman who keeps her emotions tightly reined in. She speaks with measured confidence, but there’s always something unspoken beneath the surface: tension, longing, or quiet frustration.

  • Smooth, low‑key delivery

  • Understated emotional shifts

  • Occasional flashes of vulnerability when Takashi is involved

  • A tone that suggests she’s thinking three steps ahead

Casting Notes
Give me a composed, intelligent young woman who hides conflict behind professionalism. Cool delivery with subtle emotional undercurrents—especially when loyalty, resentment, or affection slip through the cracks.

Kou Atari is a loud, lively, and proudly masculine‑of‑center member of the Glittering Crux. Though biologically female, Kou presents and behaves with distinctly butch / MoC energy—swaggering, theatrical, and completely sincere in her identity as a Ginga Bishōnen (Galactic Starboy). She carries herself with boyish bravado, chaotic charm, and a confidence that fills any room she walks into.

Her exterior is messy, comedic, and full of swagger, but beneath it lies a fiercely loyal heart. Kou will go to extreme lengths to protect her comrades, especially those she feels a deep connection with. Her bond with Madoka Kei is particularly notable—their Cybodies are designed as a pair, hinting at an intimate, fated partnership that Kou treats with both pride and affection.

Despite her antics, Kou is emotionally transparent. Her masculine persona is both a shield and a declaration: this is who I am, and I refuse to shrink. She can flip from goofy Starboy energy to razor‑sharp determination in an instant, making her one of the most dynamic personalities in the Crux.

Personality Traits

  • Boyish & Bold: Loud reactions, big gestures, expressive emotions.

  • Chaotic Charm: Goofy, impulsive, and theatrically confident.

  • Fiercely Loyal: Protects her allies with absolute devotion.

  • Emotionally Honest: Wears her heart on her sleeve—even when it hurts.

  • Masculine‑of‑Center Identity: Her swagger, tone, and presentation are intentionally and proudly butch.

Preferred Voice Actor Note (LGBTQ+ Inclusive)

Because Kou’s identity is deeply tied to her butch / MoC presentation, we strongly encourage LGBTQ+ voice actors—especially masc‑aligned women, nonbinary actors, or transmasc actors—to audition. This is not a requirement, but a preference meant to support authentic representation and give space to actors who resonate with Kou’s identity.

Mami Yano (codename Undine) is a stern, conservative member of the Glittering Crux with a rigid outlook on relationships and social boundaries. She openly views the bond between Takuto and Wako as “dirty,” revealing both her strict values and her deep discomfort with intimacy and outsiders. Suspicious by nature, Mami treats anyone outside her circle with disdain and keeps her emotions tightly guarded.

Driven and uncompromising, she’s willing to use unethical or questionable methods to achieve her goals, giving her a dangerous, morally gray edge. Yet beneath her ruthless exterior, Mami is not entirely heartless—moments of vulnerability surface when her feelings toward Takuto Tsunashi begin to clash with her mission and beliefs. Those cracks in her armor reveal a young woman struggling between duty, judgment, and longing.

Voice Direction:

Cool, sharp, and controlled. Judgmental tone with clipped, precise delivery. Guarded, with a buried softness that slips through only in moments of emotional conflict—especially involving Takuto.

The unassuming yet deeply authoritative Headmaster of Southern Cross High School. While the island of the Southern Cross is consumed by the secret battles of the Glittering Crux and the cosmic power of Cybodies, Kenzou Usui stands as the bedrock of everyday normalcy.

As the official faculty advisor for the Midnight Flight Club, he provides a safe, structured haven for Takuto Tsunashi, Wako Agemaki, and Sugata Shindo to explore their youth—unbeknownst to the faculty that he quietly shields their theatrical and supernatural antics from outside interference. He exudes a calm, grandfatherly warmth, balancing rigid school protocols with a deep, silent understanding of the island's unique burdens.

Pacing & Cadence

  • The "Principal's Pause": Never rush. Use deliberate, rhythmic pauses. Speak like a man who expects people to wait for his words.

  • Weighted Delivery: Make every sentence carry physical weight. Let words land heavily to ground the chaotic energy around him.

Texture & Resonance

  • Chest-Heavy Baritone: Keep the voice placement low and deep in the chest. Avoid any nasality or artificial sharpness.

  • Gravel & Air: Lean into a dry, gravelly texture of an older public speaker. Soften the edges with a gentle breath to show warmth.

Emotional Modulation

  • Understated Power: Rarely yell. Increase resonance and projection in the lower register for command, like a low rumble of thunder.

  • Amused Detachment: Maintain a dryly amused undertone with students, signaling he knows they are up to trouble but looks away.
