Promise You'll Lay Me to Rest | English Voice Acting Casting
Project Overview
About Mochi Studio
Hi! We're Mochi Studio, a small independent animation studio founded by two Ukrainian creators.
We grew up on '90s and 2000s anime and cartoons, so we thought — why not try making something like that ourselves?
About the Project
“Promise You'll Lay Me to Rest” is an original, old-school anime-inspired dark fantasy rooted in Ukrainian folklore.
Revenge quests, cursed treasure, haunted forests, and a human boy and a spirit girl who both want the same man dead — for very different reasons.
We're already working on bringing this world to life, with original animation, character designs, backgrounds and an opening theme.
What We're Looking For
We're currently casting English-speaking voice actors for three characters: Mavka, Lukash and Maria.
For now, we need just a few lines per character for a short YouTube video introducing our anime project.
This is a paid, remote casting opportunity.
We'd also love to consider the selected actors for the future English dub of our anime! However, future roles are not guaranteed. Any potential collaboration, including roles, rates and working conditions, will be discussed and agreed upon individually.
If you love old-school anime, dark fantasy and independent animation, we'd love to hear your audition!
Voice Actor
Mavka — Main Character
Mavka is a spirit from Ukrainian folklore, somewhat similar to a mermaid, but associated with forests and rivers rather than the sea.
Abandoned by her mother and left to die on a riverbank, she became a restless spirit trapped between two worlds.
During her journey, she meets Lukash, a human boy. Despite their differences, they discover they share the same goal: to kill the same man, though for very different reasons.
Mavka doesn't trust humans and has no interest whatsoever in their affairs. She generally looks down on them, treating them as inferior beings unworthy of her attention.
Voice age: Late teens (around 17)
Personality: Cold, reserved, sarcastic, condescending and distrustful.
Voice requirements: A youthful, calm and composed feminine voice, with an air of superiority. Should be able to convey sarcasm, disdain and subtle emotional shifts without sounding overly aggressive.
Audition directions:
Line 1: Determined, with a hint of desperation and restrained emotion. Mavka is serious about the promise, and a little of her desperation comes through.
Line 2: Incredulous and condescending, as if asking, "Are you seriously that stupid?"
Line 3: Cold, detached and dismissive. She has no interest in human problems.

Promise You'll Lay Me to Rest, Lukash.
What the hell did you go into the forest for?
Human affairs are none of my business.
Voice Actor
Lukash — Second Main Character
Lukash is the grandson of a Cossack kharakternyk. Cossacks were historical Ukrainian warriors, while kharakternyky were believed to possess magical abilities.
Having lost his father, he shares a deep emotional bond with his grandfather, who serves as his role model and mentor, passing down his magical abilities and craft.
Lukash uses the magical abilities inherited from his grandfather to put restless spirits to rest.
During his journey, he encounters Mavka, a spirit girl with whom he forms an unlikely alliance.
Lukash's character combines the spirit of Ukrainian Cossack culture with the inner discipline and upbringing of a monk.
Voice age: Mid-teens (around 16)
Personality: Kind-hearted, naive and immature. He tends to make impulsive decisions that often get him into trouble.
Voice requirements: A youthful, gentle, teenage-sounding voice. Should be able to portray naivety, impulsiveness, recklessness and a wide range of emotions.
Audition directions:
Line 1: Determined and emotionally charged. Lukash speaks with conviction and urgency.
Line 2: Focused and composed. He's reciting a magical incantation, carefully concentrating on the words.
Line 3: Disappointed, sarcastic and slightly defiant.

Out of fear of social judgement and her own helplessness, she leaves her child to die in the forest.
Voice age: Late teens (around 17)
Personality: Sad, desperate, emotional and hopeless.
Voice requirements: A youthful voice capable of conveying grief, desperation, trembling and sobbing.
