Ponies of Pasternia - Episode 1!

Project Overview

I am seeking voicers for an independent passion project I am making for myself :) This is for the first episode. I forgot to draw a nice thumbnail, so the logo will have to do for now haha.

The project: Web series with minimal animation about the lives and escapades of quirky ponies! This is sort of Original AND a Fan project; a couple of the characters are directly based on My Little Pony, but the series is very much its own thing (For example, it is set on a different continent outside of Equestria, and there are no cutie marks in this land).

Pay: Approximately $4 AUD per line, but any additional sounds like sighs or yelps are lumped in with the pay rate. For example, if the pay rate is $24, that means you do 6 lines of dialogue and potentially additional sound effects.

Additional info:

  • 18+ voice actors only, only because I don’t feel very knowledgeable or comfortable when it comes to hiring minors!

  • I have no preference between ABCABC or AABBCC – do what you like!

  • You must be okay with voicing for a small independent passion project. I DO HAVE THE FUNDS so don’t worry about not being paid. I’m saying this because some people look down on “unprofessional” projects, and I don’t want to deal with snobs.

  • Script and rough storyboards are done; I may be too self-conscious to share the boards, but you will have access to view the script of course!

  • You receive 50% payment before work begins, and 50% after your work is completed. (Doesn’t have to be divided for very small pays)

  • I will NEVER use your voice to train AI, nor will I use it in tandem with AI-generated material in any way, shape, or form.

  • This series is NOT explicit but has some crude jokes, adult references, and mild violence—ask for examples if needed. There is no cursing, drugs, or alcohol. And the other stuff isn’t abundant or extreme; it’s milder than The Simpsons overall. (There’s 2 mild adult jokes in this first episode.)

  • If you mispronounce names in the audition, it doesn't matter, I just care about voice and delivery for now! (But for the record, Nesaea is pronounced like Neh-say-ya.)

There is another character in this series that I have not listed here (Meadow); this is because I already contacted a talent I like.

  • Deadline has been reached!

    The deadline for submitting auditions to Ponies of Pasternia is over!
    You can still submit auditions if you're a little late, but I will start making decisions in a few hours or so, thus it is best to get in as soon as you can!

    In total, 300+ auditions were received throughout CCC and email. I am very grateful for everyone who has contributed their time, effort, and skills. The decisions will be VERY difficult and for some characters, there are several auditions I like almost exactly the same! As I mentioned in the previous update, I've found that delivery is key for me, so some decisions I make might sound a bit different from the voices I described.

    If you do not get picked I wish you the best in all upcoming endeavors, and I will be needing additional talent later on in the future (mostly for episodes 3, 4, and beyond). I know whom to reach out to when the time comes!

  • Little update

    Hello everyone, there is less than one week left to submit auditions! I have received 190+ auditions (including a few via email) and I am very grateful to everyone who took the time and effort to audition.

    Here are a few minor updates and clarifications:

    • ☘︎ I calculated Elodea's lines wrongly as I forgot to count her last line; her pay has been updated to 28 AUD because she has 7 lines in the first episode, not 6. I hope this is not a problem.

    • ☘︎ I made the site for Pasternia public again (https://pasternia.ju.mp/), it's for the world I made up in general and not everything is relevant to the web series, but hired voice actors will be mentioned on it later!

    • ☘︎ To be clear, I will not cast anyone until the deadline has ended.

    • ☘︎ Furthermore, I find myself greatly valuing expressiveness and delivery, so if the chosen voices seem a little different to what I had in mind, that will be why.

    Thank you again for checking my project out! Even if you do not get picked, I will eventually need additional voicers for episodes 3, 4, and beyond (plus a very minor role in episode 2). I am very blessed to hear so many amazing auditions!

SPROUT is a puckish, self-seeking pony who says and does whatever he feels like! He craves admiration and respect despite not being very respectful of others, and harbors deep-rooted insecurities he refuses to admit. Often moody and brash, a little love and attention is what it takes to get on his good side!

He is directly based on Sprout from My Little Pony, so I would like a voice similar to Joshua Graham’s work in “Make Your Mark” and “A Maretime Bay Adventure”. You could possibly use Ken Jeong’s voice for him in “A New Generation” as inspiration too.

MALARKEY is a clumsy, silly, emotional, and sometimes off-putting pony who loves baking, bugs, and most of all his partner, Sprout. If you paid him a trillion dollars to say one word against Sprout, he wouldn’t! He has no moral compass, but thankfully is too busy pampering his partner to do anything SUPER bad… Usually.

Malarkey is of ambiguous gender, normally referred to with “he” but occasionally “they”. His voice should sound like a young boy’s voice, that could also possibly be interpreted as a cute adult feminine voice. He could also have a bit of a subtle exaggerated / cartoony sound, but cute and unique, not overly annoying!

I would most like him to sound SIMILAR to Orel Puppington, the kid from Moral Orel (The link should take you to 21:03 in the video). It doesn’t have to be exact—Feel free to give your own interpretation as long as it matches my prior paragraph.

NESAEA is a kelpie… but unlike other kelpies, she has no interest in eating living beings. She can be awkward, sensitive, and soft-spoken, but is capable of becoming assertive and even angry when she’s at odds with her mom. When she ventures out to try and befriend ponies, she’s a fish out of water and can say or do things that aren’t socially acceptable!

Nesaea is at least 18 but somewhat naive. I am seeking any cute and fairly soft but not too exaggerated voice for her, possibly a slightly scratchy voice. I’m not too fussy with her, just do whatever you think fits. :)

Please note that while Nesaea will have a lot of lines in Parts 1 and 2 of KIN OF THE KELPIE, she is not planned to appear in the series again for a while.

ELODEA is Nesaea’s mom; she’s a strict, cunning kelpie who wants what’s “best” for her daughter—but she has little respect for her daughter’s choices… and will do almost anything to enforce her own ideals. The antagonist for “Kin of the Kelpie” (will primarily act as one in part 2).

I need someone who can give her an affectionate, almost cheery tone for some lines (sometimes deceitful), but critical, judgmental, and angry tones for others. Despite being a mother to an adult, she doesn’t necessarily sound middle-aged (kelpies have much longer lifespans than ponies). Should just sound like a young adult to possibly highlight inexperience with parenting. I’m not picky with her.

DICE is an imaginative, idealistic pegasus. She owns a huge archive of books and ancient artefacts, so ponies come to her whenever they’re seeking knowledge. She loves telling stories (even when nobody’s listening) and often has her head in the clouds, speaking without thinking or taking things at face value. A little child-like, but that’s not a bad thing!


She shouldn’t have a stereotypical “nerdy” voice or anything, but should have a BIT of rasp / huskiness (while still sounding young / early 20s). Not too high-pitched, but not deep either, and still sound pretty cute and appealing. I’m bad at explaining so feel free to do what you like, I’m not very picky with her!
