Project Overview

Congrats to the new cast for PIA! It was certainly not easy to select just one person, our "shortlist" wasnt very short for many characters, in the future we might be adding more characters or possibly re-casting a few characters that we would like to extend auditions for - here is the cast for PIA:

About The Project

PIA is a horror themed FPS, similar to a reverse Dead By Daylight where the "survivors" are hunting the monster. Players will take up the role of the monster, or a team of 3 special forces hunting the supernatural monster,  hopefully they find it before it finds them. We are looking to cast for a total of 16 characters, being 12 "Marines" and 4 "Monsters", 1 of the 12 marines only serves as the game announcer, "Command".

We are currently finishing the tools we will need for the design and programming the game in Unity, with the exception of "Command", each character will have "stressed" and "calm" states in-game when talking, each character has a minimal of 4 lines per "category" (any game event where speaking is required, such as being hurt, reloading, callouts, using certain equipment, etc)

Characters

The gameplay is split into two teams, the "Marines" who are hunting the "Monster".

There are a total of 11 playable Marine characters (5 female, 6 male), and 4 playable Monsters (2 female, 2 male). There is also a "Command" for the Marine team, that can be played by male or female, totaling 16 roles.

What To Expect If You Are Cast

If you are cast for a role, you will have a short "interview" with the project manager and voice director/game designer, (really it's just a Q&A to get to know you and brief you on the role in more detail, provide you scripts, etc), you'll have access to the project folder where you'll find all your lines in one script, references, and an organized submission folder

We use Discord as the main communication with the team, while your not required to be in our dev server for the project, it is helpful for announcements and updates to everyone at once

Please keep in mind that you will be joining a development team, we will be reviewing every line and there may be some redos and script modification (mostly additional and completely optional lines) throughout development - optionally, if you are interested in the game development process, we invite you to join the server and ask questions, share ideas and feedback, we can also go over the project development plan and roadmap with you, if you'd like to actively participate in the development, there may be additional lines and a few short scripts for cutscenes (some of which may involve interacting with other marine characters or specific monsters)

Audition Details

You must be 18+ to audition for this project.

When auditioning, please consider the following:

1) Please submit .wav files

2) Please record in mono

3) File naming should include project, character and actor, ex: "PIA_Command_Dibbie.wav"

4) Please provide a raw version of your audition (general cleanup is fine), if you decide to edit it with filters

We will be considering these key features when evaluating each audition:

- Clear and convincing accent

- Additionally, speaking the language of the characters origin is extra, but is not required

- Overall interpretation of the characters description, through your delivery

- Clear audio with little to no background noise/static

- Avoid peaking as much as possible

- Paraphrasing is okay and will not affect your audition

- Have fun!

Deadlines And Submissions

Submissions close on Nov 30, and the cast will be selected and announced during the first week of Dec. We will update this post and notify the members who are cast by email or through CCC.

You can audition for multiple characters and resubmit your auditions until the deadline, please state if you would like feedback with your submissions, or just want to be notified of the final casting result

About The Team

SMG is a small team of indie developers collaborating to make video games. We are made up entirely of volunteer developers that work in their free time, and are passionate about games and game development. We developed and released RAYTRACE on itch.io, and recently Friendly Fire: Arena on Steam. With all our projects, we want to try something new, and have fun while doing it. This project will take a closer look at storytelling.

I am Dibbie, the lead developer for all our projects, and project manager, we currently have another programmer, game designer, and several artists working on the various monster and marine designs. Our goal with this project is to make a fun and somewhat terrifying experience with an appealing art style and hopefully interesting story to share.

FAQ

Q: Does my mic count as a "good mic" for this project?

A: All we mean by "good quality mic" is simply that you can remove any air and other background noise, and can ensure when your speaking, your voice doesn't sound like its going through a tube or radio - so any condenser or XLR mic will work, Blue Yeti, Snowball, Logitech or others will work, something like a Xbox headset mic may not - as long as background noise can be removed and your voice is clear in the recording before any technical edits on our part is done, then it qualifies as a "good mic" :)


Q: What is a “clear and convincing” accent and how important is the language?

A: While we dont expect you to genuinely be from the country of origin for your character, or sound identical to a native speaker of that origin, we just want to hear a compelling performance that the character you are playing sounds like they originated from their country, even if their accent is now weak due to cultural changes - if you can speak the language of that country as well, that's great as we have ideas for some lines being said in a native tongue, however these are NOT required and just ideas, not being able to speak the language won't affect your audition, we are more interested in hearing your interpretation of the character and their accent more than the actual words your saying.


Q: How many times can I resubmit my audition?

A: As many as you'd like! Right up until the deadline, we will listen to it and provide feedback (if you asked), your then welcome to submit another audition with that feedback in mind and this process can continue until the deadline or you’re happy with your submission, in the final casting decision, only the best submissions from you are considered


Q: Can I audition for more than one character?

A: You can audition for as many characters as you'd like, if we think your voice works for the character and we like your delivery, it's entirely possible you could be cast for multiple characters


Q: When is the project expected to be released?

A: This game is going to take several months of development time, testing and polish, at the current pace of development, we expect it to be ready for release in Q4 of 2022.



Q: When should I expect to receive lines?

A: Following the deadline, the first week of December when the cast is announced, everyone will first go through an interview at the earliest convenience with the project manager and voice director/game designer, then immediately after that you will have access to all your lines to look over, practice and ask questions about, you are open to handle your lines in any format that works for you - print it, highlight notes, edit the document, whatever helps - you are NOT expected to begin recording right after the deadline.


Q: Can I use the assets from this project in my portfolio?

A: Yes, you’re more than welcome to use any lines you record for the game as part of your portfolio or as demo material for social media, once the project is done you'll have access to the trailers, all the official voice lines used in-game, the game itself, and a audio package of the lines for your character


Q: Will there be additional lines?

A: Short answer is "most likely, yes", the long answer is it depends, what's written is only the minimal of what we need, your welcome to do additional lines, which are marked in your scripts if it is required or optional. You are also allowed to improv and paraphrase lines if needed, but we do ask that you provide at least 1 good take of the line written verbatim.

  • Project Deadline - Update on Cast

    The casting call will be closing tonight, and we will be going through all last-minute submissions to reconsider our shortlists for each character - the full cast (and shortlist auditions) will be announced this week! Some people have chosen to audition through email, and we greatly appreciate all 200+ auditions we got so far! Origin: A demonic shadow figure spawned from the second gates of hell, no one knows exactly where it came from or what it wants but it has no problem shredding through anything in its wake. Takes advantage of shade to sneak up and isolate victims who are never seen again.

Origin: Former crew member of a treasure voyage, whose ship was found after being hit by a violent storm. An investigation found the ship intact with all the treasure, but no sign of any of the crew or any evidence of what happened to them.

Bonus if you can whistle (most lines will be put through a “talking underwater” filter, she is stuck in a state of emergency and panic)
