-------INFORMATION ON THIS PROJECT-------
INTRODUCTION
Greetings! Welcome to the casting call of The Phantom of The Opera GROUP COVER (or collaboration). Before we get started, if you don't know Phantom of The Opera (POTO) but are interested in auditioning, I'd highly recommend doing some research with this musical (listen to the songs, watch performances, and get to know the characters).
Just a quick run-through as to why I want to do this project. In October of 2021, I helped a friend do a live performance of POTO in Minecraft using the original cast recording as the music used. Before that project, I haven't listened to POTO since middle school. Nowadays, I listen and sing along to at least one song from the show every day! One day I said to myself "Why not perform it? Or better yet... have MULTIPLE CASTS??"
OVERVIEW
There are four different casts in the project. Why? Variety! This will be fun listening to different voice actors and how they look at the role(s) and implement their creativity. Depending on how many people audition and what roles have been filled, this will be a PAID project! More details are in the PAYMENT section.
CASTS
There are 4 casts:
- Emerald Cast
- Diamond Cast
- Gold Cast
- Gender-bent Cast <----- In this one, all the roles are of the opposite gender (example: The Phantom in this cast would be a female.)
CAUTION
The minimum roles that need to be cast for this project to be complete are Phantom, Christine, and Raoul! With that being said, if you want this project to have a full cast and to be successful, I'd highly suggest auditioning for as many roles as possible. The more auditions for each role, the better chance we'll have 4 FULL CASTS!
MUSIC
Depending on how many people audition and what roles have been filled, either the project will be done with backing tracks I found online OR custom tracks that I have made which will be used. They are in the works right now but we'll see how auditions turn out!
POST-PRODUCTION
Once all recordings are done and songs have been finalized, the content will be uploaded on my channel (one song per video). If there is a full cast, a full recording of the show will be put into one video and will be uploaded on top of the individual tracks. More details on this once we have a group.
PAYMENT
Originally, this was going to be a zero-budget across the board, but after doing some calculations, there is a chance for you to be paid! The payment will be out of my pocket because I want this to become a reality! Continuing from the OVERVIEW section, here are the following details about payment:
- If we only get a cast consisting of Phantom, Christine, and Raoul in all 3 casts and there is NOT a Gender-bent cast, $50 will be paid to each role, regardless of how many casts they're in of the same role.
- If we only get a cast consisting of Phantom, Christine, and Raoul in all 4 casts, $35 will be paid to each role (including the gender-bent role), regardless of how many casts they're in.
- If we get a FULL CAST in all 3 casts and there is NOT a Gender-bent cast, regardless of how many casts they're in of the same role:
- $50 will be paid to the roles of Phantom, Christine, and Raoul
- $30 will be paid to the roles of Carlotta, Madame Giry, Meg, Andre, and Firmin
- $15 will be paid to the roles of Piangi and Buquet
- The rest of the roles are non-paid roles.
- If we get a FULL CAST in all 4 casts, regardless of how many casts they're in of the same role:
- $35 will be paid to the roles (plus gender-bent roles) of Phantom, Christine, and Raoul
- $23 will be paid to the roles (plus gender-bent roles) of Carlotta, Madame Giry, Meg, Andre, and Firmin
- $10 will be paid to the roles (plus gender-bent roles) of Piangi and Buquet
- The rest of the roles are non-paid roles.
- As for Music Composer(s), the payment will range from $25 to $500, depending on how many are cast and what the group size is.
NOTICE: There are only two to four likely scenarios and the role of the Music Composer is not a guarantee. We either do the main 3 roles OR have a full cast! Make sure to audition for every role if you can!
PAYMENTS WILL BE SENT VIA PAYPAL. VOICE ACTORS WILL BE PAID ONCE THEIR PARTS HAVE BEEN SENT TO ME. MUSIC COMPOSER(S) [IF ANY] WILL RECEIVE PAYMENT ONCE WE START THE PROJECT.

AUDITIONS
REQUIREMENTS - To be considered for this project, you must:
- Be at least 16 years old
- Have prior knowledge of Phantom of The Opera (highly recommended but not required)
- Have a good to excellent quality microphone with little to no background noise
- Have a Discord account
TIPS FOR AUDITIONS - Before auditioning, make sure you:
- Warm-up those vocal cords!
- Listen to the examples of each song you'll be singing.
- Take breaks in between auditions if you're going for multiple roles.
- Drink plenty of water!
(If you want to include your demo reel on top of your auditions, go for it!)
DEADLINE
The deadline is final! I will not accept any late auditions. March 14th at 11:59 p.m. EST is when everything is due!
F.A.Q.
What if there are not enough people for 4 casts, let alone 3? -Simple! There'll just be fewer casts.
What happens if I got cast as one role in one cast but got cast as another role in another? -You'll get paid for each role you have. If you're Christine in two casts, for example, you get paid just $35 (if there are 4 casts). However, say you also got the female Phantom in the Gender-bent cast, you'll receive an additional $35! :D
Are the backing tracks you found good quality? -Yes. Most of them are from the same playlist. There are a handful of songs that are from different creators because they either sound better or have a unique style that I like over the main playlist I have. However, that's IF we go down this route.
If you do decide to make custom tracks, how many music composers do you need? -The more we have, the merrier! The only downside is the more composers we have, the less each will be paid due to the budget.
What are you looking for in the gender-bent roles? -Honestly, I'm open to anything! Show me what you think the swapped counterpart would sound like? Want the female Phantom to belt instead of sounding too operatic, go for it!
