Aldus Hill is Charles' father, a high ranking official in their futuristic civilization. He cares about his society and his job, but he cares about his son more. These lines are meant to convey someone (probably the only one in Charles' world) who feels comfortable enough being harsh with Charles, but they should also convey compassion and concern. Charles frustrates Aldus, but Aldus's love for his son never wavers. There is also somewhat of a humorous element to Aldus, but it's very subtle.

Of course I am, but I’m a different kind of prick. You know that. (PAUSE) Grab a plate for yourself and sit down. I’m not taking any special requests on the eggs. I’m doing scrambled.

It’s the Chancellor’s goddamn family. When we lost two Graces to retirement, they were replaced with members from the Cane family, the Chancellor’s second cousins or some shit like that. All the sudden nothing gets done unless they have some invested interests

The shit I had to go through to get you reinstated must have aged me by at least ten years. Don’t get me wrong, I want you back to work, but the bullshit you pull in this city doesn’t sit well with the Cane family.
This character is extremely important, and I assume very difficult to play. Vanessa Jones is a prostitute for aristocrats and upper-class merchants in Damascus City. She's essentially Charles' girlfriend, but they have a very abusive relationship. She's spiteful, and Charles treats her horribly. The audience should feel disgusted in both Charles and Vanessa in their scenes together. She's a very transgressive, abrasive character. Also, her role is very explicit, such as sounds of her having sex being used as ambiance at points in the story, so you must feel comfortable with that before auditioning.

Every day I wake up in this building, I remember the path father put me on. (PAUSE) This sure beats the hell out of working on the streets of Salem District.
(Sounding desperate) I love you. (PAUSE) Do you love me? Am I just as important to you as your father is? (Vanessa doesn't give Charles the chance to respond) You know, you've been coming to see me for almost 5 years now, Chuck. Don't you ever think about maybe starting a new chapter in our lives? Maybe settling down together?
*Sex noises* (Think, When Harry Met Sally, only darker and not hilarious)
Lawrence Cane is the Chancellor of Father's Kingdom. He embodies all the horrible aspects of privilege, entitlement, and royalty. He is a dictator who runs almost every aspect of the Sister Cities, except for the religion, which for some unknown reason is protecting Charles. Chancellor Cane despises Charles for this and many other reasons, yet he tries to hide his hatred behind a veil of class and sophistication. Think Baron Harkonnen from Dune. Lawrence Cane only has 1 line (the first line of these 3) in Episode 2. I am including other lines so I can cast for the other episodes now.
Father’s Kingdom is all we have, brothers and sisters, let us not destroy it through sloth. Another day awaits to reaffirm your value in the eyes of Father. Hold firmly to His gifts and work hard.
You know, maybe Brother Wilson was right. Matters like these can be solved by looking for guidance in scripture. What does The Book of James say? 'When His archangel brings Father's insight to a nation, that nation shall be saved from its own desolate hopelessness. And the archangel will blame their decadence on their desire for unknowable knowledge.' The secularism and activism in Salem District will be taken care of, and as Chancellor of the sister cities, I’m the perfect servant to exact Father’s will.
My office has been working diligently to put an end to the crime and violence in Salem District. The end won’t come through divinity, Brother Wilson, it will come through the actions of the Sacred Trust. The pigs that pollute that city will learn to behave.
Emily is an object of obsession for Charles. They grew up together before Father's Exodus, living a meager life underground with the last survivors of humanity. They were very close, even in a romantic relationship. But Emily was kidnapped, missing for years and assumed dead. Her disappearance consumed Charles, the goal of finding her becoming his primary driver.
After years, Charles found her on the surface, barely alive. After her recovery, she wouldn't speak to Charles, terrified by simply being in his presence. The heartache from losing Emily drove Charles to retire as an Executor and begin a life of debauchery and self-destruction. Now, Charles has been called back to service to serve under Emily.
Charles has no idea why Emily hates and fears him. There will be two versions of Emily: one as a middle-aged woman, and another as a young adult/teenager. I included lines from both so I can use the actor for future episodes, however, only younger version will be used in Episode 2 in one scene with a few lines.
YOUNG EMILY: (WHISPER) My mom knows about this? (PAUSE) If my mother knows about this then why are we sneaking? Mr. Cane has to approve things like this.
p.p1 {margin: 24.0px 0.0px 0.0px 144.0px; text-indent: -144.0px; font: 12.0px Arial}YOUNG EMILY: Yeah, but I believe it. Mr. Cane said that when the Archangel came to The Networks, he told him that the only way for any of this to work is to believe, even if you don’t have a reason to. Leave everything up to faith, Charlie. I’m sure Wilson and your father would agree.
MIDDLE-AGED EMILY: (Crying) What friendship? Two children stuck in an underground box? That means nothing to me anymore. What I have up here means nothing. The little boy I once knew isn’t this creature in front of me, this man who’s nothing more than that shit he puts in his body.

This character is heard saying this line as Charles walks past him in the commercial sector of Damascus City. This is the only line.

I was promised a freighter at the docks right after holy hours, and here we are, fucked again.
This line is in response to the Merchant's line. This character only has one line.

They're worthless. What else do you expect from Salem District?
