Link's Awakening (Manga Dub)

Project Overview


Link's Awakening - The Dreaming Island, is a 2018 voice acting project by Zelda Universe. This will be the website's first manga dub produced by Zelda fans for Zelda fans. Episodes will be released in video format provided with English voice acting. All episodes will be available on Zelda Universe's YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/ZeldaUniverseTV

The final product of this dub will be split into nine (9) individual videos, classified as "chapters". Total length of watch time is TBA.

TIPS/GUIDELINES FOR AUDITIONS

We recommend recording your auditions with a quality microphone. (Examples include AT2020, Blue Yeti, etc.)

We require all auditions to be compiled in one audio file (.MP3/.WAV) with all three sides. You may record as many takes as you wish for each side. We recommend slating for your audition so we can confirm you are the person auditioning for any given character.

You're free to "like" or comment on any other auditions. It's good nature to support fellow actors and provide feedback. Do not harass or be rude to others. If you are seen doing this, you'll be considered ineligible for casting. If you see anyone acting like this, please report this to the casting call administrator/page owner.

Have fun! This is suppose to be a fun project, so let's have fun! We intend to keep this project friendly and warm welcoming to everyone. Talent of all levels are invited to try out!

TIME FRAME FOR THE PROJECT


[February 19 to March 19] -- Auditions (casting to follow after 3/19)

[March through May] -- First cast meeting (March), Directing sessions (March/April), Recording/Editing. All actors work remotely and record individually. No travel necessary nor required.


[May through August] -- Weekly/Biweekly episodic releases on YouTube.

[July/August] -- Possible final cast meeting.

Actors are expected to get lines fully recorded between March and May (June at the latest). They will be marked completed here at Casting call Club upon finishing their roles.

If you are cast for this project, please respond to the director's message to you if you accept/decline. If accepted, we will link you to the private discord group for all actors and crew members. This is a workplace for all team members to socialize and network. A cast meeting will follow the casting officially posted in the same discord group. You will need a microphone to be able to talk with the director and fellow cast mates.

    Over 1000 auditions later, and we have come to select the voice actors for our upcoming project. We want to once again say thank you for trying out! If you did not get a role, please do not feel discouraged. We had to make a tough pick, as there were so many of you talented voices!     Hey everyone! We're thrilled that you all have taken the time to try out for Link's Awakening - The Dreaming Island. This is a friendly reminder that the casting call will be ending within the day today, March 19th. If you have not sent in your auditions here on the page, please do so now before the deadline. We will be going through the auditions this week and have the cast ready by Thursday night or Friday night. We're excited to get this project started! If you get cast, please respond to me (the director) through a DM to confirm you would like the role. We're planning to announce the cast through a video like in the past, and we will need you to respond within the next few days past March 23rd.   • Deadline is a week away!

    Hi everyone! We're coming to the end of our casting call soon. A lot of great talent! Please do not feel discouraged if you do not get picked for casting; we're taking everyone's auditions to heart and hear everyone out. We will be making a choice for those who feel fit the role best.   • Reminder regarding audition uploads

    For every audition you post, you need to combine all 3 sides (lines) for each character into 1 audio file. You then need to upload them to the correct character you're trying out for. I've noticed a few people doing this, so I wanted to clarify these steps. If you don't follow these guidelines, we will not see nor accept your audition into consideration. Link is the main protagonist of the story. Unlike in most video game installments of The Legend of Zelda, Link speak as any other character would. This allows for his personality to really shine. Link is a selfless young man who wants to help others and bring peace to the island. However, he does have an impulsive attitude that leads him to face danger head-on. Upon learning the truth about Koholint Island, Link begins to change and develop into the hero that the island's tale has foretold.

Link quickly develop mutual, strong feelings towards Marin, an inhabitant of Koholint Island. They grow close together as time goes on. When Marin expresses interests in exploring the world, Link invites her to visit his homeland someday.

Character traits: Heroic, selfless, brash, impulsive, quick tempered, adventurous, kind

  • [Barely conscious] What's happened to me...? Am I still alive...? Ah, an Island... I can see an Island... The storm... the thunder... No wait... It's a voice... I hear someone's voice...

  • Nice to meet you, too. My name’s Link... Huh? You called me “Link” just now. How did you know my name?! Could it be that I'm in heaven and that you're some kind of angel or goddess?

  • Oh, so that's it. That's what all this is about... This must be the true nature of this island. People and animals living together peacefully day after day. Now I realize that this is all for the sake of the island. There's no mistake about it...

[VITAL ROLE TO HAVE MUSIC/SINGING EXPERIENCE]


Marin is a young girl who lives in Mabe Village with her father, Tarin, on Koholint Island. She rescues Link when she discovers him on the Toronbo Shores after he was shipwrecked. She is a musical woman who has many friends among humans, animals, and even among monsters.

  • Oh! You finally woke up! Thank goodness, I thought you were a goner. My name's Marin. It's nice to meet you, Link!

  • I'm always surrounded by these smiling faces... You see, ever since I was a child, I have had the same dream every night. However nice it would be, it was still only a dream. And no matter what, you always have to wake up from a dream sometime.

  • Hey, Link... once the monsters are gone and the Island is at peace again... what are you going to do?

Felicia is a fairy companion to Link in the manga adaptation of Link's Awakening. Felicia's job throughout the story is not only to accompany Link, but to take care and hold onto the Instruments of the Sirens while Link went about finding them.

Although Felicia appears headstrong, cheeky and condescending at first, she eventually becomes a dear friend to Link. She was unwilling to tell him the truth of what the Wind Fish awakening would bring, as she feared his reaction. Their relationship grew even bigger as time went on, as the two of them journey across Koholint Island to acquire the instruments.

Character traits: childish, cheeky/condescending (early on), caring, considerate, loving, thoughtful

  • I'm not "Hey you!" My name's Felicia, and don't you forget it Mr. "Messenger-of-the-Awakening"!

  • What are you doing, Link?! Why aren't you fighting?! This is stupid!!

Father to Marin, and a fellow islander of Koholint Island. Tarin absolutely loves his daughter, Marin, and would do anything for her. He ends up in a heap of trouble early on in the story, but with help from Link who comes to his rescue. 

Character traits: Jolly, enthusiastic, protective and thoughtful. Can be stern and serious at times, especially when he gets protective of Marin.

  • What do you think you're doing to my daughter?! ... Sorry about that, Link. Please, accept my apology and stay for dinner!

  • Be careful, Link... Marin saved your life. don't needlessly waste it...

  • Everyday 'round this time, she takes a walk 'long the beach! Nowadays, there've been many monsters that go there. I wonder if she's okay walking 'round there.

A mysterious, calm and collective owl that appears throughout Link's adventure. He guides the young hero on where he needs to go, though Link doesn't fully understand what the owl means. The Owl plays a key role in telling the tale of Koholint Island, possessing a secret that involves the hero and the mystery of the island.

Character traits: Calm, collective, wise, intelligent, mysterious

  • So you're the one who owns the sword. I wonder if you're the one who has come to awaken the Wind Fish...

  • It's magnificent! That you have there is the "siren's Instrument!" Just as I had thought: you're the real thing, boy! I will forgive your earlier rudeness.

  • The people who you see are actually just like a mirror. Like this island, thoughts take on forms and begin existence.

An eccentric old lady from Mabe Village. She's the proud owner of her beloved BowWow, and boasts about her pet constantly. Link aides Madame MeowMeow by rescuing BowWow and rewards him with kisses... and a mysterious ocarina. 

Character traits: Quirky, eccentric, boastful; can be high maintenance and a nervous wreck at times.

  • BowWow, you mustn't eat that thing~! [Singsongy] Look here, your real dinner is over heeeere~~~!

  • [Panicking] Emergency! It's an emergency!! My BowWow is gone! She was kidnapped by Moblins!! [Acting like a damsel in distress] Somebody please save my BowWow!!

  • That Ocarina has been passed down through my family since long ago. There seems to be some mysterious powers hidden within it.

Karuna, a powerful pig warrior, is an exclusive character to the manga version. The self proclaimed master of Ukuku Prairie. He comes off as powerful, agile and vicious. He's got a cold personality and looks down on his enemies.

Character traits: Harsh, gruff, cold, strong, prideful, merciless

  • I didn't think after hearing of the "Messenger of Awakening's" strong reputation... that he would be such an idiot.

  • I am the master of this place, pig warrior Karuna. I have heard of you, Link.

A recurring moblin/monster throughout the story. They appear as adversaries to Link and tend to cause trouble for him and others. They even kidnap BowWow and bring harm to innocent villagers.

  • HA! WHO WILL COME FORWARD?!

  • This world is inside a dream. You just gave up the one way out. The Wind Fish has already started to awaken! Now we have to find some way to profit from it!

  • You can do one of two things: the Wind Fish wakes up from the dream and everything is destroyed... or we will continue to fight forever.

A fellow monster of Koholint Island. He comes off as gruff and aggressive, but also has a collective and cunning personality to him. Note, there's two pig moblins in this manga, and its most likely the actor cast for this will be double cast to voice both moblin pigs, possibly Karuna (a more significant moblin pig).

Character traits: monstrous, devious, rough, gruff, aggressive and cunning.

  • Buheehee... your crimes against our owablin are heavy~~~ DIE HUMAN!!

Nakura, a former soldier, who takes on the form of a ghost. He takes possession of Link in order to save him from his fight with Karuna. Link and Felicia take the ghost back to where its former house, upon its request. Nakura even further aids Link by giving him a brand new sword to carry on his wishes.

One of monsters that Link takes on against in the Face Shrine. He clues in Link on being the "Messenger of Awakening" before he ultimately dies to his hand. He comes off as creepy, given his skeletal monster appearance.

  • Admirable. boy... Well, you "are" the Messenger of Awakening.

  • You surely are strong... Because of that, there must be no doubt in your heart. Question your heart!

Master Drona is a Hinox; stronger than an average one. Drona fights simply for fun. Captured by the Moblins, Master Drona was offered freedom in exchange for his help defeating Link.

The Grim Creeper appears humanoid-like, with a skull for a head. His appearance comes off as spooky and intimidating. He attempts to dissuade Link from attacking by holding Felicia hostage. However, Link manages to cut through only the Grim Creeper and the Evil Eagle in order to save his fairy companion.

Character traits: Creepy, intimating, manipulative

  • It's splendid to see you here, "Messenger of Awakening."

  • I've been waiting for you! Now, this will be easy!!

  • Wa...wait!! You don't want to hurt the fairy...! GAAAAH!!

The Nightmare

The Nightmare, a collective of multiple Nightmares, takes on six forms of former bosses Link has defeated. The Nightmare is the primary antagonist in the Wind Fish's dream on Koholint Island. It is also the force responsible for the continued slumber of the Wind Fish. Like many of the bosses Link fights, the Nightmare is self-aware: at the beginning and end of the battle, it reveals the plans to continue the Wind Fish's slumber, and speaks of how its death will signal the end of "its world".

Character traits: Monstrous, malicious, evil, gruesome, intimidating

  • The exit... in order to go outside... You won't need it because you will die here.

  • We are born from nightmares... In order to maintain order in this world, enclosed in a dream while the Wind Fish was given eternal sleep... We were born to prevent the awakening, because the island will disappear... WE ARE GOD!!

  • Don't you want to stop fighting? If you do not, all the islanders will suffer. If you do not wake up the Wind Fish, then they will not. The Dreaming Island will be able to continue in harmony.

The Wind Fish is the creator of Koholint Island, a manifestation of land and life seen in his dreams created through the Dreamer's sleep. As the island is just a figment in his dream, the island's inhabitants (with the exception of Marin) are dumbstruck at the idea of land outside of the island's shores. Though how he ended up in the dream is unknown, Link sets out on a mission to awaken the Wind Fish to return to his own world.



Character traits: Wise, mystical, dreamer, thoughtful, sincere

  • You have been tormented so much because of the weakness of my heart. I apologize from the bottom of my heart...

  • I treasure what you have said. Yet this dream must now end... It's the law of nature... But the memories of this island will always remain in your heart.

  • Thank you, Link... the time has come. We will awake together! 'Come now, play the music! The Song of Awakening!
