Kari's Missing Hope (a Digimon Fanfiction Audio Drama)

Project Overview

Back in 2008, I made a Digimon fanfiction audio drama, with several people who now have made a name for themselves. I felt very proud that they've gone on to do great things. While I wait for them to come back and finish what we started... it's time for a new generation of voice actors to step in. As for the project itself...

It's a fanfiction based on the second series (Digimon Adventure 02). The season itself begins this way:

"A new generation of DigiDestined, composed of three new children, as well as Kari and T.K., are given a new kind of Digivice known as "D-3", which allows them to open a gate to be transported to the Digital World through any computer. Another advantage was Armor Digivolution, using a device called a Digi-Egg, so their Digimon can evolve in the presence of Control Spires."

The fanfiction itself is a romantic drama with adventure elements. Here's the quick summary:

"When T.K. announces that he's moving away, the Digmon Emperor decides to strike! In order to survive, Kari must look within her heart to discover her true feelings for T.K., who in turn must find a way to restore everyone's Power of Hope..."

REQUIREMENTS

Please note that some of these characters (especially the main ones) are recurring. I will expect commitment... and patience. Those who have auditioned may be considered as a role you have not auditioned for or extras (students, people, Digimon, etc.). You may also let me know if you wish to be an extra or the extra role as well as your current role. Regarding critiques, I will be prompt at handing them out at your request. You can ask me. 'I don't bite... hard.'

Even though it's a fan project for fun (and as such, won't have a budget), significant level of technical and performance quality is going to be expected. Please ensure that your microphone is capable of recording your performance without picking up overwhelming background noises or excessive peaking/clipping.

  • Final push

    Good morning, all. I am really worried here... This project is having a severe lack of auditions for the newer Digidestined... I am going to extend auditions one final time. I do not wish to cancel this project, but if this is a trend, then I have no choice but to force that hand. For those who did audition, I'll speak to you about things regarding the Second Chances project (since some characters from here make an appearance there). Hopefully, I'll see some auditions for this project... Luis (a.k.a. LG65)

  • Deadline is extended into next week + Early casting decisions

    Good evening, everyone. As I thought, I didn't see much auditions for certain characters... With that, I'm extending auditions into the following week. So, you have some time to get them in if you have not. That being said, there are major characters here that do appear in the other audio drama I'm doing (the 2020 Remake of Second Chances for Sora), so... the original deadline still stands for those characters (will not reveal which ones here) and I will make the casting decisions accordingly.   • One-week warning

    Good morning, everyone. I'm letting everyone know that reads this that this is the one-week warning. I have everything prepared, including a Discord server for the project. For those who are planning to audition, you have this week to get them in! But I'm sorely lacking in auditions for some characters, though... I really do not wish to extend auditions, but if necessary, it will be done. Good luck to all!

An original DigiDestined from Digimon Adventure and is the younger brother of Matt. Holder of the Crest of Hope. Usually happy and a bit calculating, T.K. can be very serious and angry, especially considering that he bears the responsibility of protect the Digital World and others as well. He is rather optimistic, and always tries to keep a smile on his face.

He is the lead male, so I'm hoping for greatness (not necessarily mimicking performance from Doug Erholtz or Johnny Yong Bosch, but putting a fresh spin on T.K.).

  • (mocking mother's choice of food) "New school, new apartment, but the same old lumpy oatmeal."

  • (surprised) "What am I thinking? That can't be Tai! He's a much better soccer player than that kid!"

  • (trying to tell Kari that he is leaving town) (sighs heavily) "Yeah… My mom got a better job out of town, a position opened up…working for a famous magazine. Y'know…more pay, less hours. It was an amazing opportunity, and she just couldn't say 'no'."

An original DigiDestined from Digimon Adventure and is the younger sister of Tai. Holder of the Crest of Light. Keeping things bottled up, Kari has a kind and friendly personality, but lacks self-confidence. She always looking for the best side of people and doesn't fight but can be serious in drastic situations. Kari is also selfless, as she would put the safety of others before her own and doesn't want to trouble others.

She is the female lead and just like T.K., I'm also expecting greatness (doesn't necessarily need to mimic Lara Jill Miller nor Tara Sands, but make her your own).

  • (trying to help Andromon break free from the Digimon Emperor's control) "Andromon, don't you remember how we fought together?"

  • (snarkily commenting on Joe's multiple allergies) "That's nothing. Wait until you see him during hay fever season."

  • (angry that T.K. is leaving town) "You're just gonna leave everything without even fighting this? You're not the kind to do that, T.K., and I think I know you just a little better than that. Why didn't you let your mom know what YOU wanted? What did you say to her about all this?"

The new leader of the DigiDestined. Davis is loud and abrasive, and has a penchant for getting in trouble. However, for all his bluster, Davis is a deeply caring and loving person who is extremely loyal to his friends. He is a firm believer in second chances, willing to extend a hand in friendship to the worst of enemies should they accept it. He refuses to give up even when all seems lost, and his infectious optimism and determination are the reasons the new DigiDestined call Davis their leader.

My bar on Davis is a soundalike of Brian Donovan's performance, but like the leads, I'm expecting to make them your own, too.

  • (jealous of Kari, and can never get T.K.'s name right) "Alright, T.J., or J.B., or whatever it is! How do you know Kari?!"

  • (trying to flirt with Kari) "Hey, it's getting pretty dark in these woods. Here, Kari, I'll hold your hand so you won't get scared."

  • (sniffling and about to cry as T.K. is leaving town) "Well T.R., I guess this is it… (sniffles) …I mean, uhh…it's about time you wised up and left Kari…t-to me…"

A new DigiDestined who is a bit of a flirt. She is headstrong and sometimes stubborn. She is most often seen arguing with Davis. While she is somewhat loud and bold, Yolei is very sincere and true to her feelings to the point where she is often unaware of others or how her feelings are affecting them.

My bar on Yolei is pretty on par with Tifanie Christun's performance.

  • (Cody just teased Yolei about Ken) "Hey, Cody, watch it! Besides, I didn't say I wanted to kiss him, duh! I just want to marry him."

  • (not over Ken... at all) "Let's go get that evil cute guy!"

  • (fighting with Davis over T.K.'s departure) "That's different, Davis…YOUR reasons, or should I say, EXCUSES are ALWAYS dumb!"

Cody is the youngest of the newer Digidestined, but despite that he is very mature and thinks things through. He is the most serious, and always conducts himself with a maturity that is far beyond his years. A lot of his wisdom comes from his grandfather, who has been the sole masculine figure in his life ever since his father died. In the beginning, his worldview is very black-and-white, as befitting a child, which leads him to be very stubborn and to be rather hard on people. Later on, throughout his adventures as a DigiDestined, he realizes the error of his ways and gradually softens in nature, having understood that it was utterly impossible for reality and people to be as black-and-white as he once firmly believed them to be.

My benchmark on Cody is that of Philece Sampler's performance. In the audio drama I did back then, Melissa Sternenberg did an exceptional job as Cody, so I'm seeking a striking resemblance of both.

  • (a bit of a snarky response to Yolei's question about Gotsumon as art pieces) "Don't worry. I'll tell him I'm taking a sculpting class and these are some of my early masterpieces."

  • (feeling like he is sidelined) "I feel... I should be out there helping the others."

  • (staying by Kari as she recovers from a Digimon attack) "Yeah. You two got blasted hard. You'd be worm food if Halsemon hadn't recovered quickly and caught you."

Ken Ichijouji (as the Digimon Emperor)

Ken, as the Digimon Emperor, is cold, cruel and sadistic, enjoying nothing more than causing pain to Digimon and making them suffer for his amusement. He is also super intelligent and cunning, and will stop at nothing to eliminate the Digidestined.

Derek Stephen Prince delivered an excellent Ken, and I'm expecting nothing less from anyone tackling Ken. I do want to see that villainous vibe as well as that cunning that Ken possesses.

  • (announcing to Davis as he captured Veemon) "You've both been trespassing in my garden without my permission. And as your punishment, you'll be forced to watch Veemon as he becomes my slave."

  • (showing arrogance) "Based on the laws of physics, I have determined that only perfect human beings can be DigiDestined, and of course I am the only perfect human being."

  • (comtemplating as he heard that the Digidestined are without T.K.) "Hmm. As much as I hate to admit it...you're right. One less annoying kid to put up with does make them a more vulnerable target. It has been a while since I tried to destroy them, hasn't it? But I suppose now's a good a time as any. Get some of my creatures in their vicinity ready, Wormmon."

Taichi "Tai" Kamiya/Yagami

Tai is energetic and adventurous. He is also acts impulsively and rushes without thinking the consequences, especially when his friends are in danger but is quick to realize and admit he has been wrong, and does whatever it takes to fix his mistakes. Despite his flaws, Tai is very caring and considerate of others, even if his actions may cause some people to think otherwise. It takes time for him to learn how to be a leader, but eventually he grows into the unifying force that leads all the other DigiDestined and keeps them together. As a teenager, Tai acts like the mellow and experienced mentor to the new Digidestined. He is less brash but still easygoing.

Holder of the Crest of Courage.

My benchmark for Tai is that of the performance of one Joshua Seth. Kieran Flitton (before his fame and fortune) did a masterful job portraying him, so the bar on Tai is pretty high.

  • (introducing self and giving opinions of other Digidestined minus Kari) "Oh, by the way, my name's Tai. This is Sora. She's okay... for a girl. And Matt—Matt's too cool. Just look at that haircut. And this little kid is Izzy. He should have gone to computer camp. That's Mimi. I'll bet you can guess her favorite color on the first try! T.K. is Matt's dopey little brother. Oh, and this is Joe. But don't ever scare him; he'd probably wet his pants."

  • (asking Sora out) (hesitant): "So, um, Sora, you goin' to the concert with anybody? I mean, not that it matters to me...just wondering."

  • (remarking about homework) "No lie, Sora! Those homework problems are more trouble than a 'River of Power' blast from Metalseadramon!"
