Hi there! Thank you for reading! This is a casting call for my webcomic 'Jailbird'. The comic currently has a prologue and 2 chapters, with chapter 3 in the works!
My main goal with Jailbird has always been to make it accessible to everyone, and a comic dub has always been part of that plan. It will help open the comic up to so many more eyes and ears! There is potential for future work for any successful applicants, including future chapters, mini-comic dubbing and potential music work for those auditioning for roles that require singing talent (Dreamscape members).
This is a paid call, with applicants being paid £5 for every 25 words the character speaks. In the character descriptions, these are currently estimates, and final counting will happen when I draft up final scripts. If there turns out to be more words than originally stated, you will be compensated accordingly!
Recording of parts will be staggered, and you will be contacted as I get the funds to pay people for their parts. I will not ask for any recording to be done until I have the funds to pay you. Larger roles will be paid for and recorded first, and I will then move down to smaller, supporting roles.
When applying, please provide a few lines from the provided dialogue for each character, as well as a demo reel if you have one! If you are applying for a character that requires singing talent, please also provide a clip of your singing work. This can be original, or a song cover.

We have most of the cast roles filled now, but some characters just need a liiittle more time to get some new applicants, so I have extended the casting call until the end of February! I have also added NEW characters to audition for, so if you missed out on another role, there are now a few more to try your hand at!

I just wanted to say thank you so much for all the auditions so far! They've been a delight to listen to. We still have a little under a month to go until auditions close, and I won't be making any final decisions until the main submission period is over!
Once it is over, I will get everyone's auditions together and work on going through to make final decisions. In the event that I cannot settle on a Voice actor, or if a Character doesn't have enough auditions, I will reopen their roles. For anyone who is cast, I will cast you on CastingCallClub, and contact you personally to confirm costs! As I will be getting the funds for this gradually, I will not do any recording with the chosen voice actors until I can pay them upfront. Depending on how quickly my funds come in, and external factors such as out of the blue payments, it may take me anywhere from 1-3 months to get to you. If you find that you are no longer able to do the project before I get to you, please let me know ASAP so I can recast!

Hal is one of the 5 main protagonists in this story! He is sweet and polite, but does not underestimate the situation he has been placed in. He is somewhat emotional in the beginning, but eventually toughens up and adopts a more confident personality. As a member of the Idol group Dreamscape, he always ensures he is putting across a positive image.
Singing talent is required for this role, and voices must be high-pitched with a cute or friendly vibe. He speaks clearly and with a natural confidence.

(Laughing, slightly embarrassed) "Aha! I'm hardly a celebrity. I am a part time performer at best,"
"There's Oliver and Andrew! They've been very supportive," "But come to think of it.. They don't really get any visitors. I don't know why."
Crevan has found himself as a Prison Officer after years of hardship, which has led him to living in his car as his only option for shelter. He is secretly a very creative person, with a passion for fashion design and art. He tends to be a bit on the crabby side, especially when he’s tired. However, around his friends, he tends to soften. He can be awkward when he’s flustered, and has a tendency to ramble.
While casting isn’t yet being done for Chapter 3, it is important to note Chapter 3’s first part involves suggestive conversations between Crevan and another, currently unrevealed male character. Please keep this in mind when applying
Voices can be mid-range, and he does not fluctuate his pitch or tone very often. He doesn't tend to get much sleep and his voice reflects this.

(Somewhat shy, but happy sounding) "I usually go into Central Triation, but it's getting so expensive nowadays." (Triation is pronounced Tri-A-Shun).
Etán is quite the oddball, being very extroverted and talkative with other inmates. His favourite activity is annoying Triations head chef, who he seems to be meeting with during… unsociable hours. He loves to draw, eat junk food and collect various bugs and insects, especially spiders. His dad is originally from Chile, and his mother is from Puerto Rico. Etan is a post-op, Transgender man.
Despite his extroverted personality, Etán does have a softer, more vulnerable side.
An ability to speak Spanish is heavily preferred. He has a mid-high range voice with lots of confidence.

Oliver is Cell Block Q’s prison advisor, the role taken on by one inmate from each block to ensure that everyone's voices and suggestions are heard and taken into account. He is studying in his spare time to become a psychologist and Therapist, but also enjoys writing and reading. He can be quite sarcastic and cynical, him and Etan butt heads frequently. Oliver does not remember much of his early life.
Oliver has a mid-range voice. He sounds quite smart, not in a way that makes him stuck-up, and he is approachable when not being sarcastic.

Andrew is the quietest member of the cast, he keeps to himself and is extremely shy. He has a mysterious past that everyone around him asks people not to ask him about. He tends to open up to others after a long time, and seems most comfortable around Etan and Oliver. Him and Crevan are childhood friends. He tries his best to keep out of trouble, and needs extra assistance with basic tasks such as getting up and practising hygiene.
Andrew has a mid-range voice, slightly on the lower side. He is very soft spoken and quiet, often mumbling

Omari is the sweet creative-type who runs the cast's D&D game every Thursday afternoon in the library. He is an avid painter, and an art-school drop out. He is quite shy, but very sweet and friendly. He is also quite sleepy, due to having narcolepsy. Etá n is one of his best friends, along with Forrest.
Omari has a mid-high range voice, with a cute and floaty sound to it. His delivery is similar to Ritsu Sakuma's delivery from Ensemble Stars! (Source: https://youtu.be/p1meinQsD6U)

Forrest is a massive sweetheart who people say is far too kind for prison. In fact, he has landed himself there multiple times! All for the same reason. To fund his passion for music, and specifically Triation's Idol Scene, he sold pirated movies at markets around central Triation. For him, not much has changed! He spends most of his time with Phil and Omari, and even Phil cannot help but feel warmed by his joyful energy.

Accent: Open to different dialects and accents for this one, I haven’t fully settled on an idea for his voice yet. Forrest often ends words with an “n” sound, and replaces “and” with “n”.
(Very excited, literally just met his idol) "Hal from Dreamscape! Oh my gosh!! I'm a big fan, Could I please have a photograph?"
"Hal, Triation's very own angel, and leader of upcoming Idol Group, Dreamscape! I've been to all your shows."
(Sounding rejected, just got told to get back to work) "aw... Ok.. Whatever ya say, boss."
Phil is an interesting character. A fallen-from-grace rich boy who will now face the rest of his life behind bars. He always wanted to be a chef, so in a way he ended up getting his wish! Running the kitchen is a tough job, meaning he doesn't get as much time to socialize with his fellow inmates. He is often tired, and as a result has a crabby attitude. Etan loves to play on this part of his personality, making sure he grinds Phil's gears as much as he can. Phil would never say aloud, but he actually likes it.

(This guy is running on a solid 4 hours of sleep, his patience is thin) "Oh. A newbie. Sorry for my sudden outburst."

(Agitated, after the line "It's a looong story..") "Too long. Get a move on, you're holding up the line."
Bo is one of three barbers at Triation, training under Gabriel to get his qualification. He landed himself in prison after picking a fight with a guy who tried to pick on his (now ex) girlfriend. As a result of his injuries from the fight, he is now almost completely deaf. He also does not talk much anymore, opting to learn sign language and write down what he is thinking instead.

Dion is in prison for stealing peoples bank cards at music festivals, and is also working under Gabriel to get his barbering qualification. He has a big interest in metal music, and wants to be a rockstar someday. Him and Gabriel argue constantly over music taste, and he has recently set up a music club with Forrest.

Once a fearsome extortionist, now leading a quieter life as Triation’s head barber. He has a sharp tongue, and a motherly attitude. He dreams of one day having a family. He loves country and pop diva music, and seems to get along really well with Andrew during his free time.
Gabriel has a distinct sass to his voice, with a mid-high voice.

Aubrey is one of Crevan’s coworkers at Triation, and has worked there as long as he has. She is quite ahead in life, owning her own home and succeeding in her job. She takes her job much more seriously, but not to the point of being a “bad cop”. She treats everyone fairly, and that means ensuring nobody gets special treatment either.

Inka is one of the members of the fictional idol group Dreamscape! She is bubbly, sweet and the youngest member of the group. Not too much is known about her yet.

Tesa has finally found her footing in the Idol Industry with Dreamscape, after over 70 failed auditions and idol startups. She tries not to let it get her down, especially in the wake of her becoming Dreamscape's temporary leader in Hal's absence. She is reliable, kind, but quite hard on herself. Not much is known about her yet.

Carlos is a part time idol, part time game developer! He was scouted by his agency at a Cheer and Gymnastics competition for Universities for his performance skills. It was never his intention to become an idol, but he is loving every second. He is warm, friendly, and loves his food.

"Everything is going to be ok, Corbyn... We're going to keep trying, and we can visit him regularly-"
Hylia is Hal's twin sister, and she also works in the RSA. However, her area of expertise is events planning and coordination, helping to organise events, concerts and shows for the company.

"But you know what I think Hal would say if he was here?"
"He would ask you if you want to practice after dinner."

Brax is a new character being introduced in Chapter 3, and is the eccentric bartender Crevan sleeps with between the events of Chapter 2 and 3.
Brax is confident, well-liked and very sociable, knowing Triation's nightlife scene like the back of his hand. He is naturally flirty by nature. He loves music, Spicy foods, and people. For this role, I am looking for someone with confidence!

"I was awake, and well, decided to make tea. You want some?"
"Living in a car? For five years? Feel free to stop by anytime! I have a couch and a bathroom, what more does someone need?"
