Welcome to Act 2 of the Our Dying World Casting Call! This act is even more characters than the first, and with so many moving pieces, we need even more talented voice actors to fill our ranks!
Rules for Auditioning:
1.) Please have a good quality mic. It doesn't need to be amazing, and feel free to edit your audio as you're used to, but it should at least have a steady, audible gain, no background noise, and no echo. XLR mics are preferred, but I've been impressed with some USB mics before.
2.) Please record auditions in ABC format. Maximum amount of reads should be two or three times. Please do not slate your auditions!
3.) If you see a name/proper noun that you’re unsure of how to pronounce, I have a pronunciation guide here. There are links to an audio recording of the pronunciation, but it is also written out as it sounds, as well as in IPA.
4.) Have fun! This is a very uniquely built RPG Maker game and we'd like to have some fun inflection with our characters. Feel free to adlib pauses, or noises, the little things in our speech that humanize us!
5.) This project is on-going with a very tentative release date set ambiguously in 2024, so a discord account is required to keep up to date, as well as have direct contact with the developer.
6.) The characters don't need to have any particular accents, as we're going for a "generally Northern American sound," but if you would like to try a few out, please feel free (as long as they sound natural).

If this is an indie-game, why aren't the voice actors paid?
Our lovely actors are all 100% volunteer based. That being said, if cast, you will receive an IMDB credit for your speaking role.

Are any of these roles main characters?
While some of them are major supporting characters, they are not our main party members, which have already been cast.
If I already have a part, can I audition for another character?
By all means, please do! If you think you can maintain another voice that sounds distinctly different from your other character, we encourage you to audition again. It is, of course, not a guarantee of getting another part.
Thank you again to everyone who turned up for the audition. It was a wonderful time listening to all the different takes and interpretations. Auditions are now closed as we reach out to actors and go through the final review process. I hope to have everyone cast in a week, depending on callbacks.

Hello everyone! Thank you so much to everyone who auditioned. What an awesome turn out! We never expected to see this many people interested in our characters, and we're so thankful to each and every one of you for auditioning. Our Voice Actors are what make our game special, and we're looking forward to adding some new friends to our roster.
We've already began the process of doing some shortlisting and reaching out to specific actors for some callbacks considering just how many excellent actors have auditioned.
If you don't get cast, remember you are still an amazing voice actor! As I was going through the auditions with the game developer, we agreed that the overall quality of this casting call was awesome. We wish we could cast everyone, but we only have so many roles and we have to be picky.
Act 3 should have, I believe, three more characters to voice, and we might reach out to some of you for that in the future.

Thank you so much to everyone who auditioned so far! Currently we're at the halfway point in terms of auditions, and I'd just like to let you all know how much we in ODW have really appreciated the interest and support. It means a lot!
Fun Fact: The original casting call that marked me among the ranks of VA for this game was back in 2018 on BehindtheVoiceActors. There were about 8-10 auditions on that casting call, too. CRAZY! It's incredible to see how far we've come from that time, in so many ways.
There's about two weeks left for auditions, and then it'll go into the final processing! I'm listening to as many as I can, but don't often have a lot of time to sit and analyze them. If you've only auditioned for one character, please feel free to go back and go for some of the other ones, too!
Once the Casting Call closes, there will be a couple of callbacks for a small handful of characters (particularly Lust, but some of the other ones too, in case it's really close and we can't decide).

Night + The ODW Team
The Virtue of Chastity, also known as Casey Kaiser, is an odd character. Self-centered, she's entirely selfish and has grown to lack empathy for most of the people around her due to extenuating circumstances (spoilers!) that surround her character. Instead she chooses to be a bit of a wild card in a chaotic-good kind of way. After all, if she's going to be sticking around, why not have fun in the process?
Chastity should sound like she's got a little bit of an unhinged excitement during her energized lines, and a calm, collectedness that comes from years of experience in her more serious moments. On the other hand... she can be kind of a grump in the morning... Her ability to switch up her line delivery from excited to emotionless and serious is noteworthy.
(Chastity is snoring, only to be woken up, delirious, her words slurring slightly in exhaustion) Huh? Oh, hey youuuuuu. Give me like... (she pauses, thinking, and changes her mind) Come back in another year, ok? (She yawns) I'm going to keep sleeping.
(She's incredibly excited in a little bit of an unhinged way to meet and fight someone strong) Hey! Hey! You must be that General guy, right? This is pretty weird, considering we've never met! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Casey Kaiser, the Virtue of Chastity.
("teacher" voice, the words of someone who has a lot of experience and won't take "no" for an answer very easily) Listen, I'll join you for now... But I'm telling you this, you'll have to find another way. I'll stop this plan of yours before you get to enact it. Because I'm not letting you or Patience die. World be damned.
Branwen is a mechanic and the older brother of one of our main party characters. While a good big brother, their family has been a little estranged thanks to some incidents that get revealed within Act 2 of the game... A little hot-headed and eager to get into an argument, Branwen is most at home when tinkering with any sort of machine, contraption, or construct.
He struggles to do the right thing within following the orders of his father, whom he respects deeply, when his morals are elsewhere (like perhaps saving his sister when all he sees is his father getting stuck behind the law).
(Ranting, he's probably been going at it for a while, and he's just trying to get it through his sister's head. He's upset, annoyed, and most of all, frustrated that he can't do more for her, despite what he's saying.) What were you thinking?! You threw away your title, abandoned Malres, failed to pay off your debt, and now...! You attacked a sin! Dad and I tried our best, but you must have known what would happen.
(his father has just said that he can't help his sister anymore, that he was denied any appeal for her crimes. He's in shock that they would deny his requests because of their status and position) Wait... what? But you're.... *you*! They have to listen to you!
(He's just confronted the man his sister betrayed them for, and he's not happy to ask him for help.) My name is Branwen Havran. I'm Circe's older brother. (Gritting his teeth and sighing) As much as it hurts for me to ask you this... I want you to help free my sister.
Klaus is a member of one of the five noble households in the fallen angel capital, Malres. The Rhaast house is the eldest and thus makes him the head of the Malres council of nobles. They make the decisions and it has seemingly gone to his head... or perhaps he was born that way.
Klaus is used to getting his way. He is entitled, self-centered, and a coward when it truly comes down to it. He should be a character that you enjoy hating. He's very well spoken, and seems to grate on everyone's nerves just that much more than anyone else.
(The conclusion of a trial that he's taken great pleasure in orchestrating to his own benefit. He's dramatically sad in a way where you know this has all gone to plan and he's not-so-secretly overjoyed) And that just leaves me, I suppose, as the last representative... A difficult position to be in. Given all that we've heard today, I declare, as head of this council and the Rhaast family, Circe Havran is guilty of all crimes committed.
(Annoyed and bothered that he was called to a meeting when there are still "vermin" running around his city.) Why have you called me here, Lust? There are still several enemies in our city whom we haven't captured yet. (Lust asks for a break and Klaus laughs haughtily) A break! (He pauses and realizes that Lust's expression has not changed.) Oh... you're serious?
(He is almost impressed that the party has made it this far.) You must be Diligence, right? We've never had the chance to meet, but my name is Klaus Rha-- (He is cut off by Ashton, saying he doesn't care. Now he's annoyed, the fake platitudes are gone and he's sneering.) Tsk. I see Angels are still lacking in any sense of manners...
The Virtue of Charity, aka Malleus Elrod, is a charitable man... in that he's a blacksmith who makes weapons. Which he gives to people! For a modest fee, of course. Charity is very gruff around the edges, unlike the Virtue his title represents. He likes finding a brute force way to go through things. He's a stern man with a stern face, and believes in the greater good, but most of all the concept of Justice. He's a kind man but you'd never get that from his face.
Charity's voice should be a little deeper. His experience shows both in his appearance and his voice.
(Far more calmly than he should be for the scene he just walked into) You know.... when I was asked to come here, I was expecting a lot more demons, and a lot less Ashton.
(Standing in the wake of a mess of his own making, he's rather disappointed and mumbling to himself) I was *sure* it wouldn't explode that time... (the player character, Max, asks him what he was working on) A new hammer. The one I used to kill the demon when we first met was too damaged to repair. But you didn't really come to investigate the noise, did you?
(Growling, angry at the man in question) I wish you would stop calling him that... after his betrayal, he is unworthy of the title granted to him. (firmly/darkly) I say we take him out first. Ashton and I have a score to settle.
Scarlett is very reserved and doesn't quite understand social interactions much, considering she has spent the majority of her life with her only companion being her father. Her personality is incredibly robotic, and while she can show some emotion, it is rare. In fact, one of the few emotions she ever physically shows is fear. The only other time Scarlett shows a little bit more of perhaps an underlying personality is when she's curious about something.
Scarlett's voice should err on the side of monotone, but still have some inflection without being boring or sounding disinterested completely. She is stiff and awkward without needing to show it.
(Knowing full well she's interrupting and not caring in the slightest) Sir? (She's yelled at but shows no reaction) I've been waiting for you to finish your conversation, but Velketh has been trying to contact you.
(Talking to the main player character, who she is very curious about) I'm not opposed to helping you out. Truthfully, I don't care who you are. But... if you can get rid of this curse, I'll help you. That idiot upstairs doesn't quite understand why you're this way, but I do.
(she has been given a gift and she doesn't understand the concept outside of a transaction) You don't have to lie to me. I understand no action is done selflessly. (The player attempts to double down and she narrows her eyes) I don't believe you. I demand a payment or I won't accept them.
Humility is, as his name suggests very humble. The youngest of the Virtues, he looks up to his fellow comrades and does everything in his power to assist them. Personality-wise, he’s a little sheepish and shy but stands up for his core values when pushed on them. He’s very similar to our main player-character, Max, in a sense. He has a lot of energy and remains extremely optimistic about the worst situations, managing to crack jokes and attempts to keep the party and group at large calm even in dire situations.
Humility should sound slightly naïve, but he is still an incredibly strong fighter who has been alive for centuries.
(He's explaining his mistake, a little sheepishly as it's not really his fault but he takes responsibility anyway) It's actually partly my fault she's imprisoned. Chastity is a little... unhinged... and it was my responsibility to look after her. If that's your plan, I would be more than happy to help. Even with the debt part! I only needed enough money to bail Chastity out anyway.
(Approaching Chastity, he attempts to wake her up. She is not cooperating as he would have hoped and now he's having to physically aid in pushing her up and out of bed. He coughs) God, when was the last time you took a bath...? (He groans at her response) Ugh... sorry in advance.
(Propositioning a fight with the main character, he's grinning at the thrill of a new challenge) You're lying... I may be blind, but I can still see the world around me. Your magic right now... is clearly showing that you're lying to me. You want to fight me, don't you?
The head priest of Oakheart and one of the Archpriest’s most trusted subordinates, Yarrow has a lot of responsibilities and expectations. So much so that the stress is very visible on his face. He's so, very, tired.
Yarrow is a kind man with an endless amount of love for humanity in his heart. His goals align perfectly with the Archpriest, however, and he has no empathy for demons or anyone who he believes follow them. Because of that, his kind demeanor can easily shift to one of cold resolution when he is forced to act.
Yarrow's voice should be kind, if not slightly weathered. Either he's done this for some time, or his past experiences have aged him.
You want a pass to the Unhallowed Marshes? Why on Elorant would you want to go in there? (He's laughing in disbelief, but it's short) Adventurer's or not, no quest could be worth going in *there*.
Now then, I've told you what the situation is. You're more than welcome to stay at our inn until we clear the swamp. I give you my word I'll give you a pass the second we do. However, you won't get it a second sooner! (Speaking a little more cryptically now) There's a house on a hill out past that swamp, and too many people have knocked on its door... (he trails off)
(Frustrated, stressed, and more importantly, seeing a "creature" of importance which he needs to strike down, resolutely) Very well, then. Oh, and it's Head Priest Yarrow to you, *demon spawn*.
Lust is an extremely kind person to the point where other characters sometimes call it creepy. Having an extremely “active” past full of sex, violence, and substance abuse, he’s put it all behind him to become a better person, in part due to General Havran's influence, who he sees as a father figure in his life.
Lust is a very cool-calm-collected kind of guy. He has to be, in order to be the best sharp shooter the likes of which the world has never seen. He kicks ass, takes names, and still looks cool while doing it. When angry, he tries his hardest not to let it show. People have commented on how weird it is that a sin like Lust is so nice, but it's really thanks to all of the time and effort he's put into keeping his anger problems from the past in check.
Lust should have a smooth-talking voice, with a decent bit of inflection from line to line. Like the guy that always wears a smirk or seems just a single step ahead of you.
This character will most likely have a callback audition!
(Calm and collected, like usual) Calling for your friends? They probably can't hear you... considering I haven't been able to find them either. (Max asks him what he wants) Would you believe me if I just wanted to chat with you? I'm not going to hurt you.
(Surprised by the party's plan, he seems to have conflicting feelings about where his priorities are) In a perfect world... I would be the first to try and help you all. But... I can't. What their plan is... it's not right, but... (He sighs) Never mind, ignore me. I have no right to speak about morality.
(Lust is talking to his current superior, a frown on his face) Don't I deserve a break? I already defeated Pride for you. (He's laughed at and it only makes him more frustrated) I've given so much to you, don't you think I deserve a break? Or at least the information that there's an actual way to fix the world instead of just abandoning it?
If there was one word to describe Evelyn Nightreaver, the current Sin of Sloth, it would be "Sinister." Every side of Sloth shows that she is not to be trusted, and that life is truly a game that she's enjoying playing, and everyone around her are the pieces that she can control and tug and bend to her whims until they break.
Sloth is a very teasing individual. Almost every line, unless she's furious, should have a sort of mocking whine to it. She's a serial killer and loves toying with her victims, keeping the more interesting ones for herself. As one of our major antagonists, Sloth's presence needs to speak for itself through her voice. Sadistic, manipulative, and completely evil.
Note: This role might have a potential callback audition for those who get shortlisted!
(She yawns loudly, like one does when they first wake up) It's been so long since I've been able to move freely. (She's mockingly polite and far too nonchalant about being accused of murder) Oh really... am I famous or something? You can't blame a girl for having a hobby. Those people were *excellent* research subjects.
(Laughing ecstatically) I told you! I've never seen a half demon before. (Suddenly getting an idea, raising her hand as if it matters) Ooh! Ooh! Can I keep him? (Eerily serene) I promise I'll take good care of you...!
(Sloth screams in pain, though it's short and more surprised than anguished) Agghh!! (Annoyed and bored for all the wrong reasons instead of being offended that she was attacked and hurt) Ugh, look who it is... You had your chance to be interesting, Lust. I'm done flirting with you. You're boring now.
Unfortunately not a lot is known about Azel. He's a character that seems extremely composed on the outside, but you can almost see some cracks in that facade slipping, every once and a while...
He's a man of science at heart, and whatever that may be, or whoever his family is, they tend to get pushed to the wayside in his quest of discovery. Azel only shows to be more and more unhinged the more people come to find out what kind of company he keeps...
Azel is a minor antagonist, and without spoiling anything too important, is a demonologist. His inflections should be all that of a man carefully considering his options. He's constantly weighing pros and cons in his head to try and end up on top. Completely selfish, he only sees the people around himself as tools with which to further his own discoveries.
An older sounding voice, Azel is a father (a terrible one, at that), and a learned man. His voice should be confidence fueled by nearly manic passion. For all intents and purposes, a sociopath.
(This is a very carefully placed mask, his holding back his excitement at seeing someone for the first time) Ahhhhh you're back, and with my son, I assume? (He chuckles, it's closely-feigned kindness) Oh no, don't be sorry at all! I'm sorry you had to get here through such a terrible storm.
(His mask slips, and all his selfish manic tendencies and pride are out in the open. Azel is questioned what he wants from his captives) From her? (he nearly whispers) That's a secret. (He chuckles darkly) But from you, I told you already, didn't I? You're the *cure* I've been looking for! All I have to do... is figure out how you're immune. Then I'll finally have all the power I could ever dream of...
(getting louder with each part) You're the answer to my darkest desires. My greatest pride! My *magnum opus*! (Hitting the peak of his rising voice/momentum) And that's why I'm *never* letting you go! (he's interrupted and it snaps him, but holding the same energy from the swelling/rising lines) WHAT, Scarlett?!
