Project Overview

A neurotic priest is determined to prove his worth in a church that worships through self-flagellation as a means to suffer as their Martyr did. In seeking consolation for deriving pleasure from the pain, he vows to be closer to God. Literally.


Imitatio Christi is a transgressive gothic fantasy animated short film that explores themes of identity, homoeroticism, and how newfound autonomy clashes with societal roles; all within a veil of aesthetics inspired by medieval christian mysticism and BDSM/kink/fetish dynamics and fashion.


Although this is a PAID project, I am on a STUDENT BUDGET; $20-$40 based on the role, lines, and work! I am always happy to discuss pay depending on work provided and interest in the project. :)

I am currently looking for: voice actors, and composer(s). I will need a sound engineer in the future!

    Hello!

    First of all, WOW, I am entirely blown away by the submissions and kind messages sent by everyone. I never figured my project would have so much interest in it right out of the gate! Each and everyone of your comments are much appreciated, they truly mean a lot to me!

    That being said, I will begin combing through auditions within the next week or so to make final decisions on casting. Please expect a message in your CCC inbox if I’m interested, or through another preferred method of contact (such as email) if it was linked!

    As for myself, I’ve just started production on IMITATIO CHRISTI, with 2 shots animated within my first week of school. Hopefully this means small bumps along the way of an, otherwise, smooth production. I will keep the updates coming on production since so many of y’all are interested in the project. :)

 A neurotic member of the congregation whose inferiority complex causes him to react in extremities to compensate for his faults. Although he’s no better from the other members in the eyes of the Lord, he is determined to prove himself worthy of God's salvation through transformative means. He’s dramatic in his sentimentality, yet gentle in his brooding — he longs for a sense of belonging within his community.


The Priest is a bit of a freak, feel free to play around with grittiness or “texture” in the voice! Although everyone in the church has an “alien” feel, the Priest stands out. Must have a strong emotional range — let that anger and sadness and desperation out!


**MUST FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH VOCALIZATIONS INVOLVING GRUNTING AND MOANS OF PLEASURE.**

The Priest’s only real friend in the church. The pair grew closer following the Priest’s confession that he derives pleasure from the pain that's supposedly devoted to their God. Although they both want to change the church, his friend believes that it's better to remain passive and improve things incrementally. Kind, comforting, and caring; it is implied that the friend has feelings for the priest, with a subtle implication of yearning for closeness.


A warm, almost naive, tone suits the role best; must be able to elicit strong/desperate emotional prosody.

A figure-head responsible for overseeing activities, tortures, and rituals devoted to God. She has a front of harsh “tough love”, but ultimately cares for the congregation and believes in the church’s mission of striving for salvation.


Strong, deep, authoritative and booming voice! She’s supposed to be intimidating to both the priests and the audience.

Another overseer for the church, responsible for carrying out rituals and acts of torture unto lower-ranking members. Characterized as sadistic and authoritative in the eyes of the Priest, although there’s a sense of “want” for the pain he offers as gratification.


No spoken dialogue. Grunting, heavy breathing, maniacal cackling with a strong, deep intonation.

I have little experience working with music composers so I am extremely open to artistic experimentation of mixing dark music along with additional strings or other instruments that instil ‘catholic’ motifs. The film has both low and high energy points that call for different beats and levels of intimacy with the viewer. :)


Looking for a composer experienced with dark and ambient genres. Dark trip-hop, industrial, neofolk, darkwave, etc. are welcomed!

Flat $50 for the whole job, although more than happy to negotiate depending on number of songs produced, total amount of work, total number of composers, etc!
