This is one of two casting calls for a fandub series for Honkai Star Rail and Genshin Impact, run by Backlights Studios. Backlights is a fandub studio dedicated to giving voices to anime and games, primarily those with no official English dub. For this fandub series, we plan to dub over comics and memes. While this is a long-term project, it will be fairly casual and mostly for fun. However, we still expect clear communication and professional behavior from team members.
All roles besides Yanqing and Bronya are open. However, if we hear an audition that we feel is better suited for one of the precast roles, we may reach out and offer to switch. Additional casting calls will be made for future released characters such as the Penacony cast.
Information about the characters was taken from the Honkai Star Rail Wiki.
IMPORTANT: WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR IMPRESSIONS OF THE OFFICIAL ENGLISH CAST! While you may use the official English voice of a character as inspiration, we strongly encourage auditioners to give their own takes on a character's voice (it's fine if you use a similar pitch as the original voice actor, but my definition of an impression includes trying to match exact vocal inflections). For certain characters we provide more detailed direction/vocal references from other games, but these following that direction is not mandatory!
Guidelines
If you are cast, please be communicative and professional. While this is a casual series, we will not tolerate ghosting the project for an extended period of time without explanation. If you do so repeatedly, you will be recast.
With the exception of Screwllum, Svarog, or Tail, we would prefer not to double cast voice actors. The three aforementioned characters have relatively small roles, which is why we are more open to potential double casting.
Please include your Discord handle with your audition, since project communications will be handled through a Discord server.
You must be 15+ years old. The directors are not comfortable working with anyone under that age and you will not be cast if you are under that age limit.
We may dub comics/memes with shipping or cursing. In the case of shipping, we will ask the VAs involved if they are comfortable dubbing the content. We will NOT, however, be doing any comics or memes that contain suggestive or NSFW content.
Please have clear audio. You do not need a professional-level setup/microphone but we just need to be able to clearly understand what you say.
I will not tolerate any usage of AI voice auditions.

"Deadline extension" + double casting policy change
Hi all! Due to a miscommunication in the Discord server, we are now accepting auditions for another week! The hard deadline is the 23rd, and we will still be conducting callbacks during this period! Casting will occur on or a little after the 23rd.
We are now allowing one person to have up to 2-3 roles per game, with the exception of the Travelers, the Trailblazers, March 7th, and Dan Heng. Essentially, if you are chosen to voice any of the aforementioned characters you may not voice any others in that respective game! We apologize that this was not mentioned earlier.

Final deadline reminder + callbacks
Good timezone to everyone reading this! First, this is your reminder that auditions close in about a week and a half, on the evening of Friday February 16th! We directors have been listening to auditions as they come in to speed things along as much as possible and we've been blown away by what we've been hearing. I'd like to thank everyone for the insane number of submissions-we're almost at 400! On behalf of Backlights Studios, thank you all so much for your interest in this little project.
Just to let you guys know, we WILL be conducting callbacks! In other words if we think your voice might suit another character(s) that you didn't audition for, we may reach out and ask you to try for those! Additionally we may have liked your audition for a particular character but want to see some changes made to voice or delivery, and have you retry for them! Callbacks will start to go out either on or after the 16th, via CCC DMs.
But remember, if you don't get a callback request, that does not necessarily mean we decided not to cast you. If you get a callback it's because we just want to hear something different from you; it is not indicative of casting!

Note: if you are cast for this role you will also be required to voice Imbibitor Lunae/Yinyue Jun as well
For Dan Heng, I'm looking for a voice that is deeper than Nicholas Leung's interpretation from the original dub-something closer to his CN voice. Still solidly in the young adult range, though, and capable of comedic (or at least socially awkward) moments.

Though he has not been officially released yet, Screwllum has already made several notable appearances in the story of Honkai Star Rail. He is a robotic lifeform (specifically the ruler of a planet of robotic lifeforms) and a member of the Genius Society. Along with Herta, Ruan Mei, and Stephen Lloyd, he is one of the creators of the Simulated Universe.
Screwllum is a gentleman, through and through. He should have a calm, refined voice. No preference on pitch.
Note that if you are cast as this character, we will use a metallic filter over your voice lines (though not as heavy as the official English dub). Since it is uncertain when Screwllum will be officially released, I am more open to the possibility of double casting the chosen VA as an additional character.

Despite appearing in Belobog to aid the Astral Express Crew, he has ulterior motives and is eventually revealed to be a member of the Masked Fools, followers of Aha the Elation who sow chaos throughout the universe.

However, she managed to survive the encounter and traveled the galaxies outside the Luofu for centuries. At some unknown point, Jingliu "made a deal" to regain her sanity, which Luocha has proposed to be the solution to mara.

I'd like to see a take on her voice that is more mischievous, lighter, and carefree-sounding than her official English voice. I'd also like to hear a take that brings out a gushing, "fangirl" side of her when she talks about animals. No preference on pitch. Her Japanese voice is a bit closer to what I'm thinking of, or you may use Spuria from Arknights as a character with a similar voice profile to Topaz's official English voice but overall feel is closer to what I'm looking for.
