Hardcase & Vixen - A Neo-Noir Sims 4 VO Series

Project Overview

Hey there! I'm Joe Bozlinski, AKA ValiantShadow, longtime contributor to the Sims machinima community as a voice actor, and as a burgeoning director in my own right! This will be my second attempt at a show!

This new project is a dark romance action thriller of the neo-noir variety. I'll be playing the role of Jim Harding, myself, but there are tons of other roles available, including the female lead! So let's jump into it!

WHAT IS IT?

Hardcase & Vixen is a Sims 4 machinima series, filmed in Blender.

It follows two broken and dangerous people.

Detective Jim Harding, AKA Hardcase, is a decorated Marine and Special Forces operative who tried to get out, leave the life behind, and take care of his family.

But then his wife was killed-- and Jim responded in the way he'd been trained to.

Unfortunately, evidence of his crime ended up in the hands of the Moretti family.

Now he's another bent cop in a city full of them, doing increasingly dark things at the behest of the mob, trying to hold onto his morality as best he can. He has to keep himself alive and out of prison-- at least long enough to give his daughter, Allison, the life that she deserves.

That's all he thinks is left for him-- until he meets...

Fallon Rose-- supermodel and rising movie star, she's making a name for herself as a charming, gorgeous, bubbly, and flexible talent, able to embody any role put in front of her. She's beloved by many, and you would never know it-- but there's a great darkness inside her.

When Fallon was a little girl, she was preyed upon by the Order of Fenrir-- a fraternity of impossibly wealthy elites, used to getting whatever they want, no matter how depraved the desire might be.

She escaped a horrible fate, thanks to the intervention of a mysterious woman named Lorelai, who took her in and molded her into a lethal weapon.

Now, two decades later, Fallon has returned to the city that tried to break her. By day, she plays the part of the captivating actress-- but at night, she's the black-clad sword-wielding killer the news has dubbed the "Twilight Slasher"-- cutting her way to the heart of the rot, stopping at nothing to avenge what was done to her, and tear out the heart of the Order of Fenrir.

There's nothing else for her. This is her life's purpose. The fire inside of her soul. She'd never thought of what might come after.

Then she met Jim.

Together, these two will learn to live-- and love-- once again.

They just need to kill a whole lot of people first.

GUIDELINES

18+! Heavy content!- This is a dark series, delving into some heavy themes. Drugs, torture, exploitation, trafficking, sex, violence-- this isn't a light and fluffy show, so I'd like to make sure everyone on the team is of legal age! No exceptions! Also, please be sure you're aware of what kind of project this is going in! That said, I'm going to work hard to keep everyone feeling safe and comfortable, so if something icks you out, please feel free to talk to me about it, so we can see what we can do!

Sexual themes - This can be a weird one for some people! So let me be up front. But people have sex in this show. (I know! Scandalous!) There's a fair bit of the Devil's Tango happening here and there throughout-- both between Jim and Fallon, and some other characters as well. So keep that in mind! But all such scenes will be tastefully shot and carefully edited, so as not to anger the YouTube overlords, at the very least! And again, if you're cast, and something makes you uncomfortable-- please speak up so I can help work within your boundaries! The show's a dark one at times, but it's also meant to be fun!

Swearing - This one's pretty self-explanatory. There's adult language in this show. If that's not your bag, that's okay-- but this probably isn't the project for you, I'm afraid! Thank you for understanding!

Audio quality - This is an unpaid passion project, so I get it, not everyone's gonna sound prefect! Just do your best, please and thank you! Make sure your background noise is kept to a minimum, and that I can hear you clearly! Having said that-- I'm looking for good performances, first and foremost!

Do not slate! I don't need your slates. It's a waste of my time, and yours. If you slate, I'm gonna assume you didn't read the directions, and I'm very likely not going to consider you. Don't shoot yourself in the foot!

Discord is a must! I'll be sending a link out on here for everyone to join a cast server once all the roles have been filled. Everything's going to be managed through Discord, so if you don't have an account, please get one!

  • There it is! Decision time!

    Wow, everybody. So many incredible auditions, thank you so much! Over 300 entries, I did not see that coming. But this is gonna be amazing.

    The call is technically closed now, though I am waiting on one more audition from someone who asked for an extension due to personal circumstances. I gave them until Monday, so that’s the latest I’ll be making a final determination for everything.

    The script for the pilot is all ready to go, and I’m already working on the writing for episode two. So once you’re cast, you’ll be able to sink your teeth in. I have a basic discord server set up that we can all collaborate in, so yeah, it should be cool!

    I have a lot of submissions to get through, even now. I’ve done a lot of sorting already, but things really blew up here in the last couple of days, which is something that tends to happen with these casting calls. So yeah, I’m gonna be busy! But it’s a very good problem to have. ;)

    If you see me following you on here, I promise, I’m not some kind of Internet stalker! :p I like seeing updates from the people I work with, I like networking with other actors and creators, and even if I don’t cast you for this particular project, if your voice still sounds good, I may be reaching out to you with future projects.   • Awesome Submissions So Far!

    Thank you so much to everyone who's auditioned so far! The turnout has been incredible, and I can't get over it. In the beginning, things were a little slow to take off, and I was pretty nervous. But seeing how much quality has come flooding in-- seriously, thank you all so much, I'm beside myself over here.

    This was always going to be a bit of a gamble-- a bloody action-packed neo-noir dark romance using Sims characters, featuring things like human trafficking, SA, exploitation, and serial killers, on top of all the shooty-shooty bang-bang and the bloody katana action?

    I know. Trust me, I know. Haha. But, there's a really cool, moving, evocative story here, and I'm glad enough people are seeing fit to take a chance on it-- and me!-- that I can help bring it to life! It's incredibly important to me that I get this right-- and that people have fun.

    Already, there are some strong contenders in here. But there's still loads of time, still just over a month. I don't cast before the deadline, so. Even if you submit a bunch of auditions at once, and I don't listen to them all right away-- trust me, I'll listen to everything you submit before I make a final decision. That's how I've always done things, and I won't change things up now. Haha.

    The last thing I'll say is-- please, folks! Remember the guidelines! 18+, and no slating! If you slate, I'm gonna assume you didn't read the project details, and I will disqualify you, unless your audition is like, auditory gold-- and possibly not even then, because damnit, Jim, I'm a man of principles! :p

Fallon is a woman on a mission of bloody, righteous vengeance— but she’s also a talented actress, doing her best to climb her way to the top of high society. Whoever plays her needs to be able to portray both her unbridled rage at the world, and at the scum who preyed on her, who still prey on others— but also be able to show her masking it, switching at a moment’s notice to a friendly, upbeat, occasionally awkward starlet. Lexi is a close friend of Fallon's. A fellow model and aspiring actress, she's younger than Fallon-- a bit naive, still caught up in all the glamor of the valley. But she's also incredibly sweet and kind, always trying to help others. A bit too giving, honestly. It makes her vulnerable. She's always cheerful and upbeat, arguably to a fault.

She's part of the inciting incident that brings the two leads together, and becomes a regular member of the supporting cast moving forward. She's a sweet summer flower, and she must be protected at all costs!

Content Warning-- in the pilot episode, a famous producer takes advantage of Lexi during a party, drugging her and then attempting to date-r*pe her. This scene is handled as delicately as possible for the purpose of the story-- the lead up is shown, with her drugged and in her underwear, but the schmuck in question is interrupted before he can do anything besides approach her meanacingly. (Also, if it helps, karma comes for him like... immediately.)

Malcom is Fallon's right hand man. He's extremely tech savy, and filled with contempt for the culture they're immersed in. He does a lot of logistical support for Fallon, helping her gather info and track down targets, as well as being an important part of her day-to-day entourage, as her personal assistant. 

Malcom is smart, witty, biting, and loyal as they come. Just... with a gigantic helping of sass to go with it.

An ambitious but high-strung detective who has it out for Harding in a big way. He later teams up with Dixon to try and nail him, disgusted with the corrupt cops in their midst. He technically outranks Harding, but their boss, Margrave, protects him-- and it incenses Moss to no end.

Moss is something of a comic relief character, as he's always overwhelmed and constantly the butt of the joke-- though he's good at what he does, and he knows it. He's just biding his time until he finally gets the last laugh.

Jim's teenage daughter. Allie is on the autism spectrum, and also suffering from some deep-seated trauma, as well, having witnessed the death of her mother, Daniela, when she was younger. Allie is very smart and loving, but she struggles greatly with displaying her emotions. This is immensely frustrating for her-- because her big dream is to become a renowned actress-- in part, tragically, because she wants to be able to take care of her father in such a way that he'll never have to work again.

Allie and Jim's father / daughter dynamic is something of an emotional oasis in the show. They love each other very much, even if both of them might struggle to express it in a traditional way.

Remember, when reading for Allie-- her delivery is often very flat or cold, but not monotone. She struggles to emote, but she's not a robot.

Police captain. Jim's boss. Aware of Jim's association with the Moretti family, but covering for him, out of loyalty. They served together back in the day, and once upon a time, he saved her life. She knows she's been compromised, and she's often at war with herself about where to draw the line. But, beneath all that mess, she's still fierce and competent, commanding respect from all under her command.

They have a good, strong friendship-- one of the few people Jim trusts these days.

A junkie who murdered Jim's wife during a home invasion, looking for valuables. Jim found him, tortured him for days, before murdering him in cold blood. This act is what leads Jim to be under Moretti's thumb, and it haunts him to this day.

Tucci's is a small role, only appearing in occasional flashbacks or nightmare sequences for Jim and Allie.

Moretti's daughter. Not quite bought into her father's world, but definitely twisted by the darkness around her. She reminds Jim of his own daughter, and part of him feels compelled to help her-- though being around her is a dangerous prospect.

Felicia is strong and ambitious, with a vicious streak a mile wide and growing by the day. She's starting to realize that what she wants, more than anything, is to take her father's place as the head of the family.

Just the one name. If she had another, she's long forgotten it. Whereas Fallon escaped the clutches of the Order before they could sink their hooks in, the woman called Violet never got away. Through her ordeal, however, she showcased a near-supernatural survival instinct, and eventually grew up to be a ruthless assassin, serving the Order's interests. She's a true sadist, reveling in the pain and suffering of others-- and while she serves the Order, her true loyalty, first and foremost, is to Calvin Galloway.

Dillon Boscoe is a sleazy but powerful director and producer, known for his transgressive projects and bizarre kinks in equal measure. He runs afoul of Moretti, which sends Jim on his path in turn. Be advised— Dillon tries to take advantage of a girl he drugs during his party. He doesn’t get very far, but he’s an absolute creep about the whole thing. Fortunately, karma comes for him pretty quickly, so…

A mysterious woman who rescued Fallon as a child, and trained her to fight the Order of Fenrir. The closest thing she ever had to a mother. She appears in flashbacks throughout the series, providing Fallon with a source of wisdom or comfort at times when she needs it most.

She was never very warm or approachable in the traditional maternal sense, but she took good care of Fallon in her own way, and was very protective of her. Stern, but firm and fair, and always looking out for her.

I kind of envision Lorelai as having a Russian accent, but it's not required! Feel free to do a take with and without, if you want! Or you can just skip it altogether, it's just a fun idea!

  • They are parasites. Sucking the blood from the weak and the scared and the stupid. But as they gorge themselves, they become heavy-- slow-- fat. When we crush them underfoot, they will burst-- and the truth of their wicked greed will stain the ground beneath us.

  • Tools do not make the warrior, little one. You do not need a gun to kill. What you need-- above all other things-- is a sharp mind, and the will to act.

Another villain in the series. An awkward photographer's assistant, secretly a serial killer called the Shutterbug, preying on women in the Valley. Very timid in public-- but very manic and prone to outbursts when in the sanctuary of his "Dark Room". (Hint hint-- it's a murder dungeon.)

He's a truly foul character, who butchers women and photographs them, both before and after. Everything to do with his character is basically a horror show, so please be sure you're comfortable with some dark, violent themes going in. The main villain. The current head of the Order of Fenrir. Publicly known as a wealthy patron of the arts, owner of several art galleries, and a renowned philanthropist. In truth, he's a vile monster in human skin, seeking nothing but the destruction and domination of others for his own amusement. He has no real goals, no grander ambitions. He's just a hedonist, who wants to keep the party going 'til the last light goes out.

Calloway's ward, and personal assistant. She oversees a lot of his day-to-day affairs, traveling with him almost everywhere, and helping him keep his public image squeaky clean. She has a vicious rivalry with Violet, as they both desperately seek Calloway's approval.
