GnollHack - NetHack Variant - Maledictions
Project Overview
We are looking for voice actors for GnollHack, our NetHack variant. There is one supporting role and 8 minor roles available at the moment. This time, we are looking for voice actors for angels and demons, which speak maledictions to the player.
Audition lines are at the end of each character description.

GnollHack is a fan-made videogame based on NetHack.

Each malediction and insult is combined into a full sentence as follows:
[Malediction] [Insult].
For example:
When the Malediction is "Prepare to die, thou" (Male3) and the Insult is "Worm" (Insult27), the full sentence would be "Prepare to die, thou worm."
However, we plan to combine Maledictions and Insults programmatically, wherefore you should just read all Maledictions and Insults separately so that they can be combined together later.
However, please note that, for the audition lines, we have combined some Maledictions and Insults to full sentences. Please read the lines in a way, so that we can separate the insult from the malediction (with a slight pause in the middle).
Audio format
You can send the auditions and final lines in any of the following formats:
- WAV: 16-bit, 44.1 kHz
- MP3 Mono: Bit rate at least 80 Kbps
- MP3 Stereo/Joint: Bit rate at least 160 Kbps
Notice on auditions with heavy effects created with an audio editing software
If you plan to send an audition, to which you have added heavy effects using an audio editing software, please send two versions of your audition:
1. One without any software created effects
2. Second with software created effects
This is because we need to evaluate your acting skills based on the version that has no software created effects. This rule does not apply if you create the "effects" with your voice or to any editing that you apply to your voice files to make them sound professional, such as noise reduction. This rule applies only when the original voice file and the modified voice file sound substantially different, e.g. due to voice distortion effects.
Evaluation of auditions
A jury will evaluate the sent auditions based on the following criteria:
- 1. Suitability of the voice for the role (right age, etc.)
2. Voice acting skills (how well you can act the character in question)
3. Technical quality (your microphone quality, etc.) - 4. Reading skills (you read the audition lines right and pronounce the words right)
If your audition does not pass all four evaluation criteria, it will be rejected.
The evaluation of auditions will take up to 2 weeks after each deadline.
Audition process
We will do the casting in rounds, each of which takes about 1 month. Each of the rounds has a deadline, after which we evaluate all sent auditions. If we find a suitable actor for a role, that role will be cast to the actor in question and closed for any further auditions. However, if all sent auditions for a particular role do not meet our voice acting standard, that role will stay open for further rounds until a suitable voice actor is found.
We will not do early castings under any circumstances. We will strictly respect the deadlines of each round. This means that you can count on that we receive your audition for evaluation if you send it before the deadline.
After all the roles have been filled and after we have received all lines from the voice actors, we will evaluate the project as a whole. That is, how all voices work together. At this stage, it can happen that we find that some particular voice does not fit together with all other voices and we need to recast that role. In this case, the original voice actor still gets to keep the money we paid him or her for his or her work.
Payment method
We will pay through PayPal. The recipient is responsible for all taxes and tax-like costs in his or her country.

Abilities: Rodney generates HP quickly, can teleport and see invisible creatures. He can hassle you remotely with mysterious curses and spells. He has a unique spell, Double Trouble, which creates another incarnation of him with all his power.

Abilities: They always mimic other monsters and leave no corpse. Sandestin can follow you to other levels and has infravision.

Voice: Young adult, annoying, nasal
Size: Tiny
Alignment: Lawful evil
Personality: The mind of an imp is both insidious and duplicitous, delighting in the corruption of mortals through trickery and temptation. Imps are masters of flattery, coercing others into acts of lawful evil through wheedling service due to lacking the intimidating presence held by other devils.
Abilities: Venomous tail for piercing the skin and injecting potentially fatal toxin. Can polymorph and common animal forms for imps are spider, rat, boar, raven and goat. Imps were strangely durable creatures, healing from injuries with supernatural speed and resisting fire, cold, poison, magic and electric-based abilities.

Resistant or immune to a number of energy types including acid, cold, electricity, fire, petrification and poison. Size: Large
Alignment: Chaotic evil
Personality: Mariliths have domineering and wicked personalities, eager as they were to bring pain and betrayal to other, but their malice was accompanied by shrewdness and cunning. They’re highly intelligent beings with a good sense for strategy, their brilliance thriving in matter of army-level tactics.
Abilities: Mariliths can cast illusionary and charm spells, but they themselves had truesight, making it harder to use such spells against them. They are able to gate in a large variety of other types of tanar’ri. Mariliths eagerly join melee combat if given the chance, they can swiftly strike with each weapon in their six hands, typically longswords or scimitars. Their tails are capable of moving like a whip or constricting their foes.

Voice: Middle aged, assertive, righteous, virtuous (possible celestial effects)
Size: Medium
Alignment: Lawful good
Personality: Archons are peace-loving entities and hate fighting. They never initiate combat, attacking only when provoked. However, they’re easily provoked by acts of evil and lawlessness and their rage have been described as “vengeance itself”. If at all possible, they avoid harming good creatures and instead used nonlethal attacks.
Abilities: Archons can see the dark and are immune to harm from electricity. They’re resistant to poisons and can’t be turned to stone by magical means. They can teleport at will and create a continuous source of light. When archon is angry or in combat, the righteous menace of the archon is so strong that it can be felt.
