Ghost Rider: Nights on Fire

Project Overview

Ghost Rider: Nights on Fire is the latest installment in the long-running Marvel Audio Drama Universe project, from Audio Anomaly. We've got all manner of Marvel Comics themed audio dramas, each one part of our own fan-created universe, reimagining some of our favorite characters! Up above, you'll find a link to Spider-Man: The Audio Drama-- written and directed by Joe Bozlinski (that's me! Heya! Hi! Hello!) the same guy writing and directing this project, as well!

With this, we're bringing the flame-headed Spirit of Vengeance himself, Ghost Rider, into the larger universe!

Our interpretation reimagines the 90's era Rider, Danny Ketch. We're taking bits and pieces of the original mythology and remixing stuff to do our own cool new thing that we hope people will really get a kick out of! But rest assured-- there'll be plenty of roaring motorcycles, chains, hellfire, and demon-on-demon violence!

GR: NoF will follow Danny as he reels from a horrific night that leaves his sister in a coma, and him bonded to a demon of vengeance, roaring to be let loose. At first, he tries to fight it-- but maybe he's been transformed like this for a reason? Maybe there are foul and wicked things, prowling the streets of New York at night-- and maybe you need a monster to put a monster down...

NOF is the first part of what will hopefully be a trilogy, further expanding the lore and growing Danny's presence in our larger universe! So if you have fun working on this one, stick around-- there'll be more opportunities coming! Plus, our community is super fun and inviting, and we always have new projects coming up from other talented and enthusiastic creators! The Marvel Audio Drama Universe is always growing!

(Something, something, something Hydra, maybe? Eh. Anyway!)

This will be an urban horror, heavy metal action adventure that'll break your heart and melt your face off... or so I'm hoping! So thanks for joining us for the ride!

A couple things of note!

1. CONTENT

This is a heavy one. Intense violence, blood, body horror. We also delve into things like demonology and organized religion, so please keep that in mind as well. This project also involves some foul language! So if swearing upsets you, this may not be the project for you!

2. Quality

Minimal background noise, please, that's the big one! Do your best! First and foremost, though, we want you to act your hearts out!

3. Contact

Please include your Discord handle with your audition, so we can get you in our server and keep you updated!

4. Slates

Please don't. No slating. Thank you so much!

ALL RIGHT!

Ladies... gentlemen... others!

REV YOUR ENGINES! Best of luck to you! Can't wait to hear your auditions!

The main character. A college dropout in his early twenties, living with zealously religious mother, coping with both the tragedy of his sister being left in a coma after a vicious attack-- and the terror of being inexorably bound to a mysterious demon, thirsting for vengeance.

Danny begins our story as a nervous, indecisive young man, constantly self-sabotaging, forever running from his own potential. When he becomes the Ghost Rider, and starts to take up arms against the hidden horrors of the city, his confidence grows, and he finds new purpose.

Danny serves as narrator for the piece-- most of this audio drama is told through him recounting the last few days to his sister as a framing device. So there are a lot of lines here, just be aware!

We're listing Danny and Ghost Rider as two separate roles, but actors are encouraged to audition for both if they wish!

  • [Sad, quiet-- wrestling with feelings of shame and helplessness] Hey, Barb. It's me, Danny. Sorry... I know it's... you know, I haven't been here in a while. Not since the night... well. The night you got hurt. You deserve better than that. Pretty lousy fucking brother, right?

  • [Shaken-- emotional. Recalling his first transformation into Ghost Rider, violently battling a group of cultists] Turning into that thing was terrifying, Barb. It hurt so fucking much, and... and the things it did... that I did...

  • [Gathering courage, standing up to the big bad at the end of things-- finally accepting his new role] Yeah, man... you're real fucking scary. Congratulations. Bet your "mother" is real proud. But here's the thing-- I promise you... I'm scarier.

A demon of vengeance-- at least that's what he claims. Bonded to Dan Ketch the night his sister was shot, the only thing greater than his drive to protect the innocent is to punish the wicked.

Danny and Ghost Rider are listed as separate characters, but people interested in auditioning for both should feel free to do so! Ghost Rider's voice will be heavily modified in post-production, most likely-- but if you'd like to showcase your own editing capabilities, feel free! "Fiery, skull-headed vengeance demon"-- whatever that sounds like to you, go for it! But please let us hear at least one set of takes that is unedited! Thanks so much!

  • Vengeance is mine!

  • There is no escape from the sins you have committed!

  • Look into my eyes. You exploit the vulnerable to feed an empire of flesh. You promise freedom, and only offer pain. So it is pain I grant you in return-- the pain of all of your victims. Know their torment as your own!

A mysterious podcast host and growing influencer, Lillian Dark exists in the background of the story, encouraging her listeners to cast off the drudgery of their everyday lives, and go after their hearts' deepest desires, no matter the cost. Her fanbase is fiercely loyal, and expanding rapidly. She calls her listeners her "little darklings"-- and sometimes... her children.

Excerpts from her podcast show up periodically throughout this story, and I'd also like to include her in some future projects as well, throughout our shared universe, as we build towards the revelation of her ultimate goal, and who she really is.

Charismatic, encouraging, with a hint of dark seduction underlying her words. In my head, I'm thinking of a more villainous Eliza Dushku sound? That somewhat deeper, huskier but still feminine type of voice. I'm open to all sorts of different interpretations, though, so go nuts!

Voice description:

  • [Opening up the latest episode of her podcast] Good evening, my little darklings. It's me, your nighttime companion, Ms. Lillian Dark, back with another episode of Night Whispers.

  • [A hint of seduction, and a little malice] Anyway-- take a cold shower. Douse yourself in ice cubes. Bury yourself in a coffin, deep within the bowels of the earth, and take your loved ones with you-- whatever it takes to keep yourselves from burning up. Unless you like the heat. I know I do.

Danny's older sister. His closest friend and confidant. When our story starts, Barb is currently in a coma, after she and Danny witnessed a strange ritual that wasn't meant for their eyes. Barb's confident, adventurous, and driven. Bit of a tomboy. Never takes no for an answer, and cannot turn down a dare or a mystery. Before her coma, Barb ran a growing YouTube channel called "Burn the Witch", focusing on strange tales and urban legends throughout the city.

Even though she's presently comatose, she features in flashbacks and such-- and there are plans for this character to appear in other capacities for future installments of the Ghost Rider's story, and the wider MADU.

Voice description:
  • female young adult
  • [Trying to convince a skittish Danny to come along with her to investigate reports of strange happenings at the cemetery] Come on, Danny. Don't be scared-- I'm right here with you. Any axe murderers try and pounce out of the shadows and take a swing at you, I'll kick the shit outta them myself!

  • [A vlog on reports of another creature called the Ghost Rider, traveling the country. Barb's sharing the info like she's telling a scary story around a campfire] Legends say that the Rider prowls the interstate late at night, bringing the fires of Hell itself down on hijackers, human traffickers, and drug smugglers. No one's ever outrun him. No one... ever... escapes.

A homeless woman Barbara had struck up a friendship with during one of her investigations, before she got hurt. Danny comes to meet her in retracing Barb's steps. She's kind, gentle, and remarkably resilient.

  • Sometimes I like to get up early. Watch the sun come up, over the river. Those are pretty good days, you know?

  • People get so... trained about it. Not noticing you. Not seeing you. It's like they think if they look at you for even a second, you know, it could happen to them. But... I try not to take it too personal. They... you know, they don't know what they don't know. And that scares the hell out of 'em.

  • Thanks for listening to me, Ms. Ketch. I... you know, I hope I get to see you again. If that's cool. I really liked talking to you.

Mother to Danny and Barbara. She's a single mother, a bit neurotic at the best of times, never really ready to let her now-adult children go. She's high-strung, and fervently religious. In the wake of Barb's coma, she's become almost fanatical, talking about the end-times, all but inseparable from her bible.

Voice description:

  • [Talking to Danny about his sister's condition] Daniel-- we have to trust that the good Lord has a plan. Not just for us-- but for your sister, as well.

  • [Discovering Danny going through his sister's occult research]] I tolerated these flights into the darkness with Barbara, Daniel! Maybe if I hadn't ben so permissive, I... maybe she wouldn't have--! I won't lose you too, do you hear me?!?

Role assigned to: Kassie A.

Danny's ex-girlfriend, high school sweetheart. Their relationship fell apart as Danny seemed incapable of applying himself to anything, getting anywhere with his life. Stacy, for her part, is a strong and career-oriented woman. She's a police officer in the NYPD at present, her chief inspiration being her father, Captain Arthur Dolan. Stacy has her sights set on becoming commissioner of police one day.

Her family's Irish, so I thought a slight Irish accent might be a fun idea-- but it's not a requirement! Do your own thing!

  • I'm really sorry about what happened to Barb. She was... she's one of the good ones, you know?

  • [Confronting Ghost Rider as he brutalizes a criminal-- fearful but resolute!] Drop the chain and place your hands on your head!

  • I'm just saying... if the good guys look like *that*? I think we're all pretty fucked, Danny.

A former Marine and NYPD detective, busted back down to training officer after numerous complaints about excessive force. Gruff, protective, and quick to anger. He's got a lot of problems, but he does want to do good. If only he can overcome his personal demons. Badilino carries a dark history, having suffered great family tragedy at the hands of a being calling itself Ghost Rider once before. Once Danny hits the scene in his demonic form, Badilino is sent down a dark and vengeful path. We won't see the full extent of where that leads in this particular production, but in the sequel, Badilino's going to get a whole lot of focus. So this first act really sets up his character's journey.

  • Dolan here-- she's going places. Gonna be my boss someday, you watch.

  • It was nice to meet you, Danny. Do what she says-- wear a helmet. Don't be a jackass.

  • [Screaming, enraged-- opening fire on Ghost Rider in the street] Monster! You won't get away from me again, you hear me? I won't let you hurt anyone else ever again!

A seemingly empathetic and dedicated volunteer at a local homeless shelter, Garity is in fact luring the city's most vulnerable into his clutches for use in a dark and twisted ritual.

Garity's the villain of the story, revealed in the final act. Whoever plays him needs to be able to convey his caring and his dedication to helping the less fortunate, as well as his dark side.

For inspiration, I'm envisioning something like Jeffery Combs, specifically as he appears in Faust: Love the Damned-- five people have seen that adaptation, and I'm one of them, but shhhh...-- a real noble sort turned sinister fanatic in the final act.

Voice description:
  • male adult
  • [Speaking passionately to Danny about the plight of the homeless population] Do you know how many unhoused people there are in this city, Mr. Ketch? It's a sickness. And I don't mean homelessness, no-- that's a symptom. I mean apathy. It's rotting this city from the inside out. Nobody gives a damn.

  • [Soft and sinister, 'comforting' a victim as he prepares to kill her as part of his ritual.] Shhhh, shhhh, shhhh. No, no, no. It's okay. It's okay. It's better this way, don't you see? You won't be cold, lonely, and scared anymore. Unloved. Unwanted. Unseen and unheard. You'll be a part of something beautiful. And Mother... Mother will be so proud of us both.

  • [Full villain mode, attempting to kill Ghost Rider] You won't stop me, Demon! I am one of Mother's favored children! I have far too much to accomplish! Too many lost souls left to save! You will not interfere in my great work! I won't let you!

  • Get the fuck outta here before I gut you, narc-ass bitch.

  • [He's just been hit with the Penance Stare. He's being forced to feel all the pain he's caused others, and it's nearly driven him mad. Crying, blubbering, losing himself] I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm so sorry, I-- oh god... oh no, no, no, no... please no more. Please no more. It hurts...! It hurts so much...!
