Gehinnom: Knock On Death's Door
Project Overview
A recently deseased soul, Aviv Yepremian, finds themselves in the titular Gehinnom, the realm of spiritual purification. Their sudden passing naturally left them with unfinished business and unanswered questions, so at the suggestions(/warnings) of characters such as their faithful guardian Juno, the eccentric shopkeeper Chaya, and the roguish demon Armaros, the player will have to journey through the afterlife to contact the Angel of Death and bargain for a second chance. Little do they know however, of the true circumstances of their death and what it means for the world they left behind.
Gehinnom: Knock On Death's Door is a visual novel project based in Judaic folklore and beliefs, headed by a Jewish author. We're currently a small team of two looking to expand! Rates will be negotiable and please read each role description thoroughly as we'll have specific needs for them. Thank you for your time!

You will compose songs for the soundtrack, encompassing the main theme, background tracks, and character leitmotifs. Familiarity with Jewish music (Mizrahi, Sephardic, Ashkenazi, etc) is preferred but not required.

Aviv is the main character and narrator of the story. They are nonbinary and use they/them pronouns. They also are Afro-Armenian and we must ask that their voice actor be Black, please do not apply if you aren't, you will not be considered.
Aviv is a 23 year old human who is quite reserved but thoughtful, kind, and creative. Though they often struggle with anxiety, they tend to mask their true feelings and push through solely with their determination.
"Though most thoughts are failing to register, one repeats on loop, growing louder and more frightening with each round. 'Is this person I see before me...The Angel of Death?'"
"While the rest of my body's instinct is to freeze for dear life, my hand refuses. It gravitates into the being's hold, now absent of fear or distrust."
[Panting] "S-sorry, I'll be...with you in...a sec. Just gotta convince my lungs I'm okay..."
Juno is Aviv's guardian angel. He use he/him pronouns and is Amazigh. He is also Deaf and commuicates via sign language and writing. Though he is mostly mute, we would like him to have a voice actor so players who are visually impaired can hear his dialogue. Please do not apply if you aren't Deaf and North African, you will not be considered.
Juno is a 92 year old angel who is on his first job escorting a soul to the afterlife, something he has been training for his whole life. He cares deeply about his position and his ward but can be stubborn in his beliefs and tends to push himself too hard.
"Shalom. My name is Juno. I am Deaf and cannot read lips well, so please communicate with me by writing in this book. Thank you."
"My deepest apologies for your passing. I pray your memory shall be a blessing to all who knew you."
"Come, it is time we go. Be not afraid, I shall always be here by your side."
Chaya is a shopkeeper who trades in (occasionally contraband) items from the human realm. She uses she/her pronouns.
Chaya is a being of indeterminable age and species, though likely a demon. She is cheery and welcoming, but also just very...strange.
"Come on in, don't be shy! All these fine baubbles and bits at 50% off won't last forever!"
"Please pardon the mess, dear. I'm fairly, ah...overstocked at the moment."
"Oh, Juno! I thought I saw you fly through here earlier! I have those tea leaves you asked for the other day. Would you like to me to grab them for you?"
Armaros is a semi-mischievous demon who seems to have a history with Juno. He uses he/him pronouns.
"Irit (pronounced EE-reet)! There's a dead human at the door! Are they a friend of yours?
"Oh, eh [clears throat]...it's been awhile, Junebug...you still on your anti-jorts in the winter kick? Cause I'm still well on the pro side, y'know."
"Hey, no worries, I can show you around. I'll be your, uh, guardian demon, so to speak."
Irit is Armaros's roommate (and ex-girlfriend but they're on good terms!). She uses she/her pronouns.
She is a type of demon called a Sheyd, who revel in pulling incredibly annoying but harmless pranks on humans.
"Aww, Arm, are you finally settling your differences with Juno? That's great, that's wonderful! Now can you please tell me where you put my hairspray, I'm in a hurry."
"Alrighty, you crazy kids have fun with your death journey. If you'll excuse me, I'm late for hiding a rabbi's carkeys in their fridge; I CANNOT cancel that again."
