Project Overview

Final Fantasy IX FanDub was a massive (completed) undertaking that launched in 2010. It has become one of the most-watched Final Fantasy FanDubs on YouTube with over 200,000 Views (and climbing). Many of the previous Voice Actors involved have stepped into recurring roles to lend their skills to our Steam Mod. We have also recruited a large number of talented Voice Actors with the intention of filling (a playable) Final Fantasy IX with Voice-Overs. We have a highly organized, well-structured team that is breathing new life into the legendary series.

Disclaimer:
If you are interested in auditioning for this project, you will be expected to remain on board until completion. We cannot substitute Voice Actors in and out of roles like traditional Fandubs. If you leave the project with commitments still in place, the team will be required to cast a new Voice Actor for that role and re-record all dialog that was previously recorded. If you have a history of poor communications and/or commitments, this may not be the best fit for you. We are very accommodating when it comes to extensions.

Auditions will be assessed based on your level of Voice Acting, the quality of your microphone, and your ability to minimize things like background noise, audio peaking, and quality loss from noise suppression.

Please do not submit an Audition with noticeable background noise, audio clipping, or room echo. You will be asked to re-record. Some of our Voice Actors have navigated these challenges by covering a thick blanket over themselves (and their microphones). It really depends on your studio environment.

Most importantly... Have fun. We're not looking for Hollywood-level performances, but as always, the role will be delivered to those who can bring the most truth and authenticity.

  • Recurring Roles

    Hi! Recurring Roles are ongoing, but we do have some strict guidelines when it comes to your technical setup. Here is some information to keep in mind:

    1) Distance. Your recording should sound like you are speaking at a comfortable distance from the microphone, but not speaking from across the room. If you are finding that your audio is clipping because of this, turn down your input.

    2) Room Echo. If it sounds like you are speaking in a gymnasium or a large church hall, you will be asked to re-record. Some of our Voice Actors have gotten around this by draping a thick blanket atop themselves and the microphone.

    3) Audio Clipping. Watch your waveforms during the recording process. If the waveforms are flat on the tops/bottoms, it means your audio is clipping and you need to lower your input.

    4) Barely Audible - At the same time, if you can barely see any waveforms, it means your audio levels are too low.

    Please keep this information in mind when submitting an Audition. :)

  • Recurring Roles Available

    We're currently not casting any major characters for the project, but recurring roles are always welcome. Your participation could also lead to a more permanent placement. If you're interested, simply audition for the "Recurring" role in the audition thread.

  • One Day Left

    We are currently in the process of reviewing Voice Actors and while many have been shortlisted, there are still a handful that we need to see more interest on.

    Particularly the Moogle, Vivi, and Garnet. If you're interested in one of these roles, get your audition in today.

  • Audio Editing Experts

    Looking for a particularly good male Voice Actor that can do some clever customizations in Audacity. If you fit the bill for this, please look at the role of Garnet's Father. You will be recording one line at the beginning of the game and one line halfway through. You can also stay on board for recurring roles.

With our Discord currently sitting at about 40 Voice Actors, our project will be implementing stricter onboarding measures reserved for Voice Actors with a significant amount of character range, as well as a room free from background noise and room echo. Artania is Cid's minister in Final Fantasy IX. He greets the party when they arrive in Lindblum for the first time, and quickly arranges for an audience with Regent Cid for them. As the game progresses Artania provides assistance as much as he can, which usually involves giving access to different parts of Lindblum's Grand Castle, or giving the party important items for their journey. Garnet refers to him as "Uncle Artania".

Vivi appears at first to be gullible, clumsy, and shy, often stumbling over his speech lacking self-confidence. He is fearful of his powers, origins, and his own lifespan. Over time, he gains bravery and confidence, as well as a sense of right and wrong. Vivi befriends Zidane, who acts like an older brother to him, and resolves to use his magic to protect his new friends

We're leaving this role open for interpretation. We're likely going to cast this to a childlike sounding Voice Actor, but if you have something completely groundbreaking, send it with your Audition.

Steiner initially places complete loyalty to Queen Brahne, and prioritizes Garnet's safety above all else. He begins with a narrow-minded world-view, having complete faith in the queen, and contempt for criminals beneath royalty, and being driven by this world-view and his emotion. He is polite and well-spoken when addressing others, particularly those whom he respects, though he scorns those who he does not. Nonetheless, he will reluctantly put aside his dislike of common thieves for Princess Garnet's sake. Steiner acts as the game's comic relief character, especially in the beginning where he is the target of numerous jokes.

Pronounced: Ay-Ko (Like Way or Jay)

Eiko is spunky and snobbish, yet desperately lonely, having lived alone in Madain Sari with only moogles as her friends for most of her life. She develops a crush on Zidane Tribal and goes as far as to write a love letter to him, but snaps out of it after a while as her infatuation has more to do with not wanting to be alone than grown-up feelings. Eiko knows the world is vast, but is afraid to leave what she knows out of uncertainty and reverence for a promise she had made to her grandfather to not leave Madain Sari until her sixteenth birthday. Meeting Zidane and his friends allows Eiko to connect with the outside world and sparks a longing in her to leave Madain Sari and meet new people.

Freya is a skilled and powerful dragon warrior with a sharp mind, but her longing for her lost love burdens her. She is humble and friendly, as seen when she speaks to Eiko or Vivi. She can also joke around with Zidane, saying she will "kick his butt" in the pub in Lindblum because he's flirting with girls. As a dragon knight, she can put aside her doubts and join forces with others when necessary, even teaming up with her former enemy Beatrix at one point.

Quina can be reckless, such as when they jump head-first into the canal in Treno after thinking they spotted food down there.

He wants to prove himself and his way of life superior to Zidane's, but when this does not pan out, he is forced into introspection.

Kuja is narcissistic in contrast to Zidane's humility. Kuja has an ego to match his power, and he lets his pride rule his head. Kuja once chose to let Zidane live even if he had a chance to kill him to prove himself superior. After discovering his destiny as a mortal, Kuja's cultured personality turns into insanity, believing life should not be allowed to continue without him. His descent into insanity and rebellion against Garland stem from the fear of oblivion, as Garland intended to discard Kuja's soul in favor of a new Genome. He is unfazed by being wounded, shown when being attacked by Bahamut.

Kuja uses his elegance to hide his insecurities, and deep down is conflicted over his existence. Kuja scorns the black mages he helped create, but also finds himself identifying with them. As explained in Final Fantasy IX Ultimania, Kuja never experienced childhood, and thus his emotional growth is stunted and he cannot use Trance. Kuja is initially unable to empathize with others or feel remorse for his actions. It appears that learning of his fate as a mortal and rebelling against this destiny allows Kuja to grow, as after losing his fight he comes to see at least some of the repercussions of his actions and to regret them. He acts kindly toward Zidane in their short exchange at the Iifa Tree, glad that Zidane's friends were able to escape.

Baku also plays King Leo is I Want To Be You Canary, so we are looking for someone who can voice both a Protagonist and Antagonist.

Blank is the brains of Tantalus. He is close to the other members, especially Marcus, his best friend. He's competitive towards Zidane and considers himself a "ladies' man". A mysterious man named Kuja convinced her to wage war on the other nations of the Mist Continent, leading to her insatiable greed and subsequent indifference over preserving innocent lives. Brahne becomes blinded by her desire to rule and even puts her daughter's safety at risk.

Moogles are a fictional species of diminutive, sentient creatures and a recurring element of the Final Fantasy video game franchise, starting with their initial appearance in Final Fantasy III. Moogles serve a variety of purposes in the various games in which they appear. They sometimes provide opportunities to record game progress or access shops; occasionally they assist in battle or may even become a playable character.

Beatrix at first views Adelbert Steiner, the captain of the Knights of Pluto and a soldier in her senior, as a rival. Steiner, meanwhile, is frustrated over the superiority of Alexandrian soldiers led by Beatrix over his Pluto Knights.


Beatrix is noble, proud, and most of all, loyal to Alexandria and the Alexandrian royal family. She is confident in her ability as a soldier, and can be seen as being arrogant because of this. Beatrix has an outstanding ability as a leader, collecting loyalty and admiration from both the public and the soldiers under her. Beatrix is soft-spoken and addresses people with perfect manners, be it to her soldiers or to an enemy, although this is not as obvious in the English localization as it is in the original Japanese version.

Beatrix shows no mercy for one who poses a threat to Alexandria and acts solely as a soldier, obeying orders without hesitation or showing emotion. Despite her infamously merciless behavior, she has a kind heart and willingness to forgive. Baku says Beatrix has a big heart, unlike the "knuckle-headed" Steiner. It is implied Beatrix feels lonely in her position, which in part leads her growing closer to Steiner.
