Every Way Back to You (Book One of The Home We Make Series)

Project Overview

I'm casting three narrators for an ongoing MM romance series that I'm writing. This is a long term duet-style audio book project consisting of seven books and a three part prequel totaling 8 productions. Book one has been published on Amazon, with plans to expand to wide sales soon. Casting now to maintain consistency across the full series.

Roles needed:

Eli (male, primary narrator)

Rowan (male, primary narrator)

Marcus (male, antagonist, dialogue only; present in books 1 and 3)

This is an adult romance series and some scenes reflect that. For certain scenes involving Eli and Rowan, narrators will be asked to provide additional vocal performance audio that will be layered and mixed in during post production. This is handled with full professionalism and discretion and will be discussed in detail with cast members prior to recording.

This applies to Eli and Rowan narrators only. Book one contains one scene of this nature with additional scenes across the series.

Please ensure you are comfortable with adult romance content before auditioning.

Production Notes:

Audio mixing and production will be handled entirely by the author, who has several years of experience in audio drama production. All editing, sound design and final mastering will be managed in-house.

Compensation:

This is a profit share project based on ACX/Audible sales revenue, paid out quarterly. The profit share agreement will cover the seven-year ACX exclusivity period for each individual production from its upload date, after which the agreement concludes naturally for that title. Productions will be completed on a rolling basis across the series.

Split:

Eli narrator: 20%

Rowan narrator: 20%

Marcus narrator: 10%

Author/Producer: 50%

Transparency and Documentation:

A basic contract will be provided for all parties to sign prior to production, creating a clear paper trail for everyone's protection. Quarterly payment breakdowns will be provided via spreadsheet so narrators can see exactly how payments are calculated.

Rowan’s been in love with Eli since they were fifteen. But Eli never saw it, and Rowan never said a word. Not when they dated other people. Not when their lives drifted in different directions. And definitely not when Rowan finally tried to let go and let someone else in.

That someone else nearly killed him.

After a brutal attack leaves Rowan in a hospital bed, Eli finally sees what’s been in front of him all along. But seeing it and acting on it are two different things. Rowan is broken, hurting, and afraid – and Eli refuses to risk what little safety he’s found by rushing in.

As Rowan begins to heal, Eli learns to be the safe place he's always needed. Rowan learns to let himself lean on the only person he's ever truly wanted. But the man who hurt him is still out there, and it's only a matter of time before he comes back.

All Eli can do is stay close, keep Rowan safe, and hope that somewhere in the quiet moments between fear and healing, they’ll find their way back to each other — for real this time.

Eli is a professional photographer, thirty years old, based in London. He's warm, confident and naturally charismatic without being arrogant about it — the kind of person who makes everyone in a room feel at ease without trying. Quick with a joke and possessed of a dry self aware humor that surfaces even in tense situations.

His narrative voice is direct and emotionally present — he feels things deeply and isn't afraid to sit with those feelings internally, but tends to convert emotion into action and presence rather than rumination. When fear or uncertainty hits he moves toward the problem rather than away from it.

He loves fiercely and protectively and the emotional core of the story rests heavily on the listener feeling that through his narration.

  • (shows his warmth and dry humor; lighter tone): I kept myself busy at the hob, quietly moving around as I got breakfast going. Nothing fancy, just scrambled eggs and toast. But the sizzle and warmth helped settle my leftover nerves from the night before. I kept an ear tuned toward the bedroom, just in case, but I didn't expect him to show up too soon.

  • (shows his emotional depth and protectiveness; mid intensity): Rowan was the most gentle, patient, and thoughtful person I knew. He gave people far too much grace when they didn't deserve it and was always careful with everyone else's feelings. But he never expected anyone to return the favour. He didn't deserve any of this.

  • (shows his intensity and internal voice under pressure; high intensity): What if Rowan didn't wake up? If I'd waited just a little longer to check on him... My jaw clenched so tightly that it hurt. I couldn't get the image of Rowan lying on the floor out of my head. I couldn't stop seeing the blood on his face or the way his chest barely moved with each shallow breath.

Rowan is a secondary school history teacher, thirty years old, living in Tunbridge Wells. He's quiet, methodical, and deeply self-contained; the kind of person who notices everything and says very little. He's genuinely warm with the people he trusts, but that circle is small and hard to get into. He wears glasses and tends toward a neat, understated appearance — someone who takes quiet comfort in order and routine.

His narrative voice is slower and more internal than Eli's. He processes things carefully, often sitting with feelings long after he should have said something. His humor surfaces rarely and only around people he trusts, but when it does, it lands with sharp precision.

He gives everything to the people he loves and almost nothing to himself. This is both his defining quality and his central wound. He's not weak. He's someone who has learned to make himself small and is only beginning to understand he doesn't have to.

His chapters carry the emotional weight of the story. A narrator who can hold that interiority without pushing it will serve him well.

  • (quiet and internal; lighter tone): When that happened, it was easier to focus on the mundane. School routines, essays, my students, structure. Because when I let my thoughts linger too long on Eli, an old ache crept in. The kind that came from years of wanting something I couldn't have.

  • (mid intensity, controlled anger): Marcus drugged me. Raped me. And he thought he could just walk away from it. He thought I wouldn't fight back, that I'd stay quiet and let him win. That might have been true a few months ago. But not today.

  • "high intensity, panic and fight response): I didn't need to see him. I knew that grip. Panic threatened to take over, but I didn't try to fight his hold. I already knew that wouldn't work. Instead, I fumbled with the canister, tore it out of my pocket, and aimed it blindly over my shoulder. A harsh blast hissed next to my ear, followed by a strangled yell.

Marcus is charming, well-presented, and easy to like — at first. He speaks calmly, picks up the bill without being asked, and always has the right thing to say. Nothing about him reads as threatening until you look closer at his behavior.

He doesn't shout or lose control. His version of anger is quiet and deliberate, pressure rather than explosion. His manipulation is careful and deliberate, disguised as concern and affection.

The most important thing for this role is that the early charm has to land as genuine. If Marcus sounds sinister from his first line, the story doesn't work. Listeners need to understand how Rowan ended up where he did.

Accent: Essex, but deliberately suppressed to blend in. Marcus presents as well-spoken and neutral at the start, consistent with his carefully maintained image. As the story progresses and his control begins to fracture, the suppression slips with it. By the end, it's largely gone. This shift is written into the dialogue as his self-control slips so the VA will be able to track it.

  • (early charm, completely convincing): You've never told me no. / Still conquering the lesson plans? / Next time, just let me help you. You're good at brainy things, but your DIY skills are clearly a cry for help.

  • (control dressed up as concern, mask starting to show): Protective... Or maybe possessive? Think about it. He shows up out of nowhere after years of barely being around, and suddenly he's concerned about who you're dating. Feels a bit convenient.

  • (mask completely gone, accent surfacing): This is your fault, ya know. Yours and his. He had to come sniffin' around. Had to play therapist like he had any fuckin' clue what was goin' on.
