Project Overview

Whether you went to Ferais University for peace and quiet, to escape your parents or for the academics, you were leaving now, and fast. The... anomalies had practically taken over the campus and the staff could do absolutely nothing but pretend they weren't there, to begin with. There was already a surplus of... questionable on campus happenings, the majority of them not even involving students. It seemed like no one in their right mind would go there in the first place, but now, as the literal laws of reality were beginning to fall apart, all who were out of their minds were flocking to the place. As well as a few curious sane individuals, though those were certainly scarce and far in between.  

Distorted is an audio drama about a witch, a cat and the chaos that ensues from their interactions with humans and the world around them. It's also a lot a bit gay.


REQUIREMENTS:

You gotta be okay with the LGBTQ+ characters because there are quite a few of them. (All of them)

I'll be constantly updating this thing and adding new roles, so there will be other roles available throughout the series. If you're not cast you might be needed as a one-liner or a background character. Production will be slow, considering I'm the only editor and artist and I'm an actress for this and ya know... I have a life (kinda).

  • Happy Birthday to the Call

    So, it's officially a year old now! So, I'm gonna do something I meant to do and said I'd do ages ago! I'm going to be uploading my sad sad attempts at lending my voice to my children. I'll be uploading these in small bursts, likely out of order. There will be singing and it will not be good. Let me know if you want me to do anymore of this kind of stuff until the casting decisions can get made, like maybe full covers of songs as certain characters. And you can comment on my submissions as well and give me hell about how bloody awful I sound.

  • This thing is nearly a year old

    I promise I'm still working on this and it will be a thing. Sorry, there's been a lot of nothing. School has been killing me. I don't want to set anything in stone until I've finished the first Arc... Act? Thing?? Season???? I promise that there is steady progress being made, finally. I'm adding new writers to the team, but I still need story boarders or animators or someone who isn't me drawing this. I need a team and at the moment I am lacking in that area. Final decisions are coming. They're not coming soon, but the end of the post audition purgatory is ion sight!   • So I'm gonna do a thing.

    Since there has been a surge in auditions as of late and we still don't have much for certain characters, so I'm gonna do a thing. I'm gonna submit auditions for some characters singing. Maybe then people will get a feel and audition more for them. Dunno, but I do know it'll be fun for y'all cause you'll get to hear me struggle with grown male voices. :D

  • Extended The Deadline

    So... I extended the deadline again, but this time I decided to actually say things to you internet humans... or others... ANYWAY- The reason I keep extending the deadline is cause slowly but surely people are auditioning for roles. Yay! This is my first project up on this site and it has been a slow process, but people have started auditioning and that's good. So I've given this thing another month to float or sink, dunno. Let's hope more people do the thing, the auditions we have now are amazing! Let's see if we can't get some more!

She's a fighter, this one. Nova is 4'11 and can and will kick anyone's ass. She looks like a cinnamon roll but could actually kill you.  She has a southern (North Carolina) accent. She's used to being stared at and doesn't care that people might look at her weird. Her voice is slightly high pitched. You don't have to, but it would be nice if you could sing a little bit. Her range is low soprano/high meso ish. She's half Indian and half Mexican and a pint-sized ball of energy.

  • So are you just gonna huddle in front of the fridge or is there a rest of you? (Em stands up and towers over Nova) Lot of rest of you… Shit.

  • Look, I know I shouldn’t have, and I’ll take the I told you so from all of you, but Granite was there and they- so- I tried one. We were having lunch and… They said just a sip… I think they tipped the bottle because I didn’t move my hand and half was gone and I wasn’t really thinking straight… Whatever the hell is in that, it’s strong… I’m still kinda dizzy. And this doesn’t help Em’s case either. Let’s tally up the points, she lives off of insane shit in flasks, she’s barely ever seen on campus, yet she has said she has nowhere else, her overbearing hydrophobia, that creepy old book she always has her nose in and protects with her life, the case of possible levitation, plus her being shady as all hell. That’s a lot of points. So yeah, she’s more than a little bit off… and yeah, she’s probably part of all the weird supernatural bullshit going on. I don’t know what to think anymore, heh. I think she’s alright but Granite is losing their shit over it. I trust her despite the points. And I will get to the bottom of the bullshit, nothing’s getting past me now!

She's 18, but she grew up too fast. She's older than her years. Em's voice is deep and smooth, she's a tenor. She's a ball of nerves who's soft-spoken and always running from her past. She's thoughtful, cares too much and has learned to pick her battles. She suffers from a few mental disorders but doesn't let them define her. She's not very good at people, so she tends to run over her words. SHE HAS A STUTTER? DO THE STUTTER?

Salty, smart, too much sass for this world, cynical and somewhat disconnected but she cares about people. She's got the best one-liners. She knows what she's talking about. She is 18... kinda? Okay, ya see the thing is she's a vampire with a hell of an attitude. She was 18 in Feudal Japan so... Yeah. Her voice is lower and somewhat gruff when she sings her voice is smoother and she has the remnants of a British accent that come out more when she's upset, she spent most of her time running away from the cult that raised her in Britain and now she's a resident of the Ferais Campus Forest. (You high key don't have to meet every little thing, just put some punch in what she says.) You should also do a little improv for this one, sing a bit if you can.

  • Wait - wait, lemme get this straight, you were tricked by an acid trip kitten?

  • (breathless taunting) Come and get it fur brains! 

  • (terrified and frantic) Oh god, I'm sorry, I panicked. They found out... I was sloppy and now th-they know and they're after us and we have to go. NOW!

This guy... Oh where to begin with this guy... He's a rascal this one. He's 6'1 and tons of fun. (He's really only 5'3) He's a bit of a flirt, but he means well. He's a jokester, responsible for the majority of comic relief. He is a meme lord. His weapon of choice are dual pistols that he does, indeed, shoot with his pinkies because he is trash. He's the (Quasi Platonic Relationship)QPR Partner of the cynical vampire. His voice is like his character, sweet but rough around the edges and down to earth. Don't think about doing a voice too much, just be natural.

They/them, Adrien's twin sibling. Their voice is deep and raspy, think Raven from Teen Titans. The only kinda straight they are is a straight up bitch. They're kinda paranoid and know a lot more than they should. They tend to get somewhat hysterical in the face of something that really scares them. Otherwise, they're the logical pragmatic one. They are far from the cold analytical type,  even if that is the front they like to put up. Deep down they're a goofball like their brother, they just don't show that side of themself so often.

So, imagine Bill Cipher and the Cheshire Cat were fused into a ten-year-old who was mentally stunted and warped because she died and she knows it. Welp, that's Kasey. She was 10 when she died due to experimentation, that was nearly a decade ago. She has a sweet little voice, high pitched like a kid. Highly expressive. Her voice lilts when she's threatening you. (sing a little if ya can also improvise evil kitten things)

  • *cackles* Did you honestly think that was it? You humans are adorable, (mock southern accent) Y'all thought y'all could stop me? HAH! (crescendo) I am a force to be reckoned with. You can't stop me, no one can. Now, any last words for the farm girl?

  • (panicking) I'm sorry... I never meant for any of this to happen, I didn't realize... Oh God... She's not coming back is she... Oh no, nonononono, there has to be some way to get her back!

Sweet, sweet tranvestite. Malice is a natural born leader with a knack for suave seductive and sadistic manipulation. She also has a touch of a superiority complex. She is indeed a trans girl, if you can't deal then don't audition, simple. Her voice is smooth and intimidating voice. She's a counter tenor (soprano) (think Mitch of PTX) and puts little effort into a feminine sounding falsetto. Preferably Spanish speaking, but not necessary.

  • (Under her breath smart assery) Looks like someone had a bit too much to drink, no? 

  • (Mimicking Em) Oh boo hoo, I'm the poor victim. Pity me!

Aqua... She's a bit of a doozy this one. She's sea-witch, so she spends as much time underwater as she can. She has an alto voice and subdues most audible emotion, but it still slips through the cracks. Think a very very extremely subdued Daniela from In The Heights. She knows how to wrap people around her fingers. She speaks her mind and doesn't care what people think about it, but she says things in such a way that it get's under people's skin. She is skilled in psychological warfare as well as physical combat and hates humans. This is a Spanish speaking role. Though she doesn't know a lot about her past, she knows her heritage.

Imagine Matska Belmonde from Carmilla and make her a reckless 16 year old. Mel is a kid, she's impulsive and loud. She puts on a cracked facade of posh superiority but it easily falls to her headstrong and bombastic personality. She's a second soprano and her voice is rather smooth until she loses her cool and her voice becomes gravelly and well animalistic.

She's Nevara's human counterpart. When Nevara was alive they shared a conscience and memories but had separate bodies souls and auras. They were almost the same person but spread out over two lives. Then Nevara died and they found out just how different they are. Now the two share a body and a mind, but they've come to realize what they hadn't when they were both alive and in separate bodies, they are vastly different. Xaruma, or X for short, is a Liza Todd's Chemistry TA at Ferais. She has connections to the pasts of a lot of the people she sees around campus because of her father, but we don't talk about that we also don't talk about him. She's a woman of both science and magic because honestly in her world they are pretty much the same thing. Her voice knows the trials of time. She's a somewhat nasally contralto and is most enthusiastic when talking about the way something works, especially when it comes to magic. The hope in her voice still there, even though it should have died long ago. She's enjoying the life she has now because she knows how impermanent life can be, so she's determined to enjoy everything she can. If you could sing or improvise some ramblings in addition to the lines below, it would be much appreciated.

  • Well, I teach chemistry and as an expert, I can see we have a great deal of it here.

  • That’s not- This isn’t about me, Paige. I didn’t just get up and decide to leave everything behind. This isn’t about how I feel or what I want! Look at me! I look like a sixth-grade science fair project gone wrong. I left because I couldn’t take scar upon scar for the rest of my life. I was going to disappear one way or another. I ran so they couldn’t keep me. I ran because they would have just taken me from my life anyway. I didn’t have a choice in leaving you. I only had a choice in what happened next.

(Queen) Nevara

Nevara was a loved queen with a family. She lost her only two biological daughters a long time ago when they were ages 10 and 8. Then she adopted 3 little princesses after resolving to give the crown to her sister upon her passing. As time passed on, bad things happened to her and the people noticed physical changes, though nothing changed in the way she ran her kingdom. Long story short... They killed her. And now she's trapped in the body of a not so scrawny 20 something who's a TA at a cryptid filled university. She's a bit of a flirt and her rash headstrong nature pushes through in most of her actions and words. Her voice tends to carry the weight of the life she lived. Regal, with a slight accent. She has a smooth and low voice. 

  • Oh, darling. I know you think you've got us cornered and in a way, I suppose you do, but believe me when I say we bow to no one. Especially not an adorable little munchkin like yourself. Oh, I could just eat you up.

  • We are one being, not only in physicality. It wasn’t always like this, where we share a body and a mind. We used to only share a mind- well memories, ya know, even so, we were separate. I had a body, a life, a kingdom- but I well died and then here we are- stuck together. 

  • Where I’m from, people in power cannot step down. The people already hated me, so for my family’s sake, I did not want to be the first to try. Naturally, I found some other way out of the oncoming revolution. By feeding into it... You see, I gave them what they wanted. A big bad to fight. They were going to take the castle and my sister and my daughters. I wasn’t losing another child. I forced them out. I made them leave, somewhere safe. Where they couldn’t hurt them, where they wouldn’t know to look. And I gave them an excuse back to power. I handed everything over to the citizens in exchange for my family’s safety. And then… I went into the crowd as the evil queen they all thought I was. They wanted a villain. I gave them one. Whether it’s what needed to happen or not, I don’t know anymore. But I went into the crowd and fought them off. I never hurt them of course- I could never hurt them… I just used a stunning spell and knocked them over. I… I don’t know how it happened. I think I hesitated or paused for breath. But I look up and then… A man, he was a wealthy farmer, I tutored his daughters- his weapon was a spear… It entered here, (points to torso, the space just between her ribs.) And exited a little further down. (Pause) And the air went still. As though they’d all stopped in their tracks. I pushed forward, about to strike him. I… I was almost there I could have just made it. But of course, they’d never have let that happen. They saw I was weak and thought I’d hurt him. (Deep breath, swallows lump in her throat) Then it was a sword. From behind. It exited here… (puts a hand over the right side of her stomach, just below the rib) It only hurt for a few moments. Next thing I knew I was falling asleep on the ground with a dull throbbing in my head and- well everywhere as my heart began to give up on my soon to be corpse...

Nevara's sister who survived along with Nevara's 3 living children. She now rules the kingdom. The kingdom loves her more than they did her sister, Nevara did leave some things behind and they were all to make sure that her subjects wouldn't lay a finger on her remaining family. Narcissa balanced Nevara's loud and all over the place personality, though the two always matched wits and even battled from time to time. She's a master at potions and typically keeps a cool head. She loves her subjects, but it's more because she must. She will never for what they did to other half or the gaping hole they left the children that are now hers. She loved her sister more than she could ever say and now loves her children as much as she can. Narcissa is the more practical of the two, her voice is smooth and has a sharp pragmatic feeling with a hint of that royal glare. 

  • Ugh, does this look like a joke to you? I mean honestly can you put a shard in it for more than a clock tick and help me clean.

  • (adlib either some queenly speechy the old evil queen is dead thing talking about how she denounces her sister (like a thank goodness from wicked kinda thing or her saying goodbye to her sister))

This guy. Ooo do I have things to say about this here douche canoe. He is a load of shit dressed to the ninety nines.  As the crowne prince of a kingdom with a incubi/succubi majority, he had a taste for... well... Nevara. He had and has an affinity for her, even if she's lost her body. In the complicated mechanics of the soul between worlds, in Nevara's world he's Lohihr while in X's he is Santiago. Unlike the rare case of X and Nevara, they've very little distinction in their personalities and voices. They're suave and well a lust demon so... Ya know how that is. Santi's voice belongs more to your average douchecanoe, egotistical and hot headed. He knows he looks good and flaunts it in anyway possible. Now Lohrihr on the other hand. He's Santiago, yes, but with the lust turned all the way up. He's the incubi form, so seduction is his primary function.

Liza Todd is the science professor that X aids. Liza used to work for a less than friendly laboratory, but we don't talk about that. Liza is proficient in any type of science under the sun and some under different suns. She's very warm and has a voice as big and booming as her personality. She might seem like a big softie, but underneath the layer of playful jabs and sunny kindness lies a cold analytical mind that observes and records almost everything that goes on around it. Liza sounds a bit like Sofia from the revival of Color Purple.

  • Well, shame on you for neglecting to tell me that we had company! A boy no less! Tell me this young man's name- I can transmute some lemonade if you want, pudding.

  • Don't lie to me child, I can sense when there's an imbalance in your system. Now, sit down and explain to me what happened.

  • I built this gun. I know exactly the amount of power it requires. I comprehend every bit of danger it poses. I know its limits and precisely where to shoot it to kill a bastard of his grandeur dead. And we will witness the heat death of the universe before I let you tell me to sit down like I don't know what I'm talking about. The sun will explode before I let you act like I can't knock you unconscious with the underside of a house slipper.

He's a bit of a mad scientist, though he would scoff at the idea of being called mad. He's hardly mad, just... ambitious. His philosophy is that knowledge is the most important asset in existence. It is the most powerful force for the good of the human race. And to get to it, we're gonna have to crack some eggs. Did I mention he's Xaruma's father? 

In his day to day life, there is a sizable disconnect between his voice and demeanor and his true ruthlessly ambitious character. He's calm and mild-mannered most of the time, just your average father. But even he has his breaking point. Think somewhere along the lines of Gabriel Agreste with Scar lying beneath the surface instead of Hawkmoth.

  • (scary) There you are, Princess. When you didn't call, I got so worried.

  • What I do here- it's not... It's not my fault if being a little more than human unlocks the secrets of the universe. I will do what it takes for this project. What we are doing here is so big- bigger than anything humans have ever done or that they could potentially do. Imagine what we could find out if we could just reach out beyond our own solar system. Hell, we've barely even escaped this planet- but that could so easily change. All the knowledge in the universe- potentially even more than that could be at our fingertips if we crack this- If I crack this.

Distorted isn't likely going to be super heavy on the art side of things, but I may need help for the more active scenes. Fight scenes and scenes with little dialogue and all that jazz. It'll probably have panels but as long as not much movement happens in a scene the pannel will likely stay on screen for the entirety of the scene.
