About the project
Danganronpa: Despair Time, also abbreviated as DRDT, is a fan-made video series based off of the Danganronpa franchise. It features a cast of 16 original characters who are forced to play a killing game on the behest of a robotic mascot named MonoTV.
DRDT is a fan-made project. There is no compensation that can be offered, but you will also not be held to any professional standard.
The entire prologue has been completed and is released on Youtube. No plans are in place to add voice acting to the prologue. In addition, full character sprites can be viewed on the webpage.
An overall plot has already been finalized. Currently, progress on chapter 1 is underway. The script and background assets have already been completed, and video editing will commence soon.
Preparations for voice actors are pretty much completed, so you do not have to wait too long after the casting has concluded.
About this casting call
The primary factors considered for auditions are microphone quality and “fit” to the character. Please don't record on a phone or laptop microphone.
Longer lines are used in this casting call in order to get a good sense of voice, but the actual lines requested will be much shorter.
I am not a voice actor and will not self-cast. In addition, no characters will be cast before the deadline.
Expected workload
This project will require mostly voice clips and trial interjections. There are a handful of voiced lines, but they are very rare, and most characters do not have any. In addition, all roles will be kept spoiler-free as much as possible.
The workload for chapter 1 will be at most 150 words; future chapters will probably require much less.
All contact will be kept through email only.
There will be no live-directing.

Personality notes:
The Ultimate Lucky Student and the protagonist of this story. Chosen as an “average student” to join a class of Ultimates. Allegedly suffers from a “curse” of bad luck, which has caused her and those around her to suffer from misfortune and injuries all her life. Tends to distance herself from others as a result of her luck.
Level-headed, blunt, rational. Faces the killing game with a confident but dispassionate manner. Not particularly enthusiastic about making friends.
Voice notes:
Medium high female voice.
Sounds like a typical protagonist. For the most part, intonation is level and calm. Has a level-headed personality. Often very blunt. When she’s angry, it’s in a quiet manner.
(Neutral) My name is Teruko Tawaki, and I’m the Ultimate Lucky Student.
(Surprise) Ah--! How long have you been standing there?!
(Anger) Do you really think I’ll forgive you? You’re a murderer. I won’t ever forget that.
Personality notes:
The Ultimate Rebel. His talent for activism causes him to frequently break rules and denounce authority. Most noteworthy accomplishment was exposing the corruption in a local government. Not very happy with being called a "rebel."
Loud in both voice and personality. Has a firm moral sense and feels very strongly about just about everything. Gets worked up very easily. Very energetic and self-confident. Encourages others and enjoys helping people. Gets angry at the existence of the killing game.
Voice notes:
Medium male voice.
A British accent is suggested but not required.
Full of energy, yells often. Puts passion and enthusiasm into everything he does.
(Passionate) Even misfortune can be overcome or adapted, so I'd take the fact that you’re here as a good sign!
(Angry) I’ll find whoever’s behind this killing game and I’ll make them pay!
(Serious) I'm not about to do anything that would needlessly endanger myself and others.
Personality notes:
The Ultimate Chemist. Undoubtedly a very educated man with much talent in the field of chemistry, but he thinks too highly of himself because of this.
Pretentious, believes that he’s above everyone else. Believes that unacademic talents are a sign of incompetence. Puts a lot of pride in sounding smart. Gets embarrassed or flustered easily, leading him to become a frequent target of teasing.
Voice notes:
Medium male voice.
A bit stuck up, pretentious, and smooth-toned. Likes to over-explain things. Tries to sound smart.
(Dismissive) Don’t be ridiculous. I sincerely doubt that these two can bring any new information.
(Monologuing) It appears that this building has 6 floors. And since there’s only a down button, I conclude that we stand on the upper-most floor of this building.
(Embarrassed, angry) D-Do you think I’ll fall for your cheap taunts? Just leave me alone!
Personality notes:
The Ultimate Matchmaker. Supposedly able to set up highly successful relationships between his clients. Chronically single himself.
Immature. Loves joking around and especially loves wordplay. Always teasing others, always cheerful. Doesn’t take anything seriously, to others’ annoyance.
Voice notes:
Medium high male voice.
Childish/boyish sort of voice, to go with his personality. Very optimistic and cheerful, always joking around.
(Teasing) Ahahaha! Come ooonn, you know you love me. Everyone does, after all!
(Deadpan, then joking) I think we should all just lie down and take a nap. Just kidding.
(Slightly disappointed) Aw… That joke wasn’t *that* bad, was it?
Personality notes:
The Ultimate Art Forger. Has a photographic memory. Paints and sells labeled copies of famous works of art, since actual art forgery is illegal.
Always sleepy, rarely awake. Very absent-minded and inattentive. Usually demonstrates a lack of reaction to what’s happening around her. However, she can be focused and thoughtful at times. Occasionally has good insights and possesses a fair amount of intelligence.
Voice notes:
Medium female voice.
Very air-headed, often confused. Speaks slowly, like she’s in a daydream. Sounds unfocused, unless she’s concentrating on something.
(Woken up from sleep) *snoring* …. Mmm… *yawn* Huh? Who are you?
(In a daydream) Well… It’s possible that… I wasn’t paying attention to my surroundings.
(Thoughtful) Judging by my change in height, I suspect that we’ve all been missing for about a year.
Personality notes:
The Ultimate Plastic Surgeon. Specializes in cosmetic surgery meant to improve the appearance of his patients. Unhealthily obsessed with beautiful people, scorns those he deems as “ugly” (i.e. everyone). Prefers not to operate on "ugly" people. Due to his medical expertise, his classmates rely on him to fix most injuries that occur, which he is not very pleased about.
Very adoring of those he considers to be beautiful. Disgusted and contemptuous towards everyone else. Treats his peers like scum.
Voice notes:
Medium male voice.
Very emotive, to the point of theatrics. Over dramatic at times. Most often expresses anger or disgust. Sounds disdainful of others.
(Admiration) I only wish to serve those who are beautiful, and help them attain magnificent forms!
(Disgust) Ugh, making me explain things to you… This is why I hate interacting with the hoi palloi.
(Annoyance) You can bandage that up yourself. Stop asking me for assistance.
Personality notes:
The Ultimate Personal Stylist. Advises clients on fashion, clothing, makeup, and other appearance-related topics. Only came into his talent recently, and is cagey about what he did before that.
Calm, brave, and dependable. Wishes to serve his peers. Displays anger against those who would hurt others. Protective of his classmates. A bit socially awkward and can sometimes be a bit of a pushover.
Voice notes:
Medium to low male voice.
Very calm, assured voice. Speaks a little slowly. Speaks in a bit of a stiff, formal manner.
(Threatening) Do you think our lives are just to be toyed with? I’ll make you pay for creating this killing game.
(Assertive) As long as I am your classmate and acquaintance, I will do my best to keep you safe from now on .
(Confused) I’ve never really had any friends in the past, so I’m not too sure what I should be doing. Should I hold your hand…?
Personality notes:
The Ultimate Clockmaker. Repairs and builds antique clocks. Very cheerful and optimistic, if not a bit naive. Loves spending time with friends.
Naturally a social butterfly. Does her best to keep her classmates cheerful and motivated. However, she can easily become upset and tearful.
Voice notes:
High female voice.
Usually peppy and bubbly sounding. Can be upset and cries often.
(Cheerful) Ehehe! I’m glad everyone’s in a good mood right now. We should throw a party!
(Upset) *sniff* I… I want to go home right now...
(Pouting) Come on, pleeeaase? I want to be friends with you.
Personality notes:
The Ultimate Effects Artist. Works in backstage theatre to produce live-action special effects. Thinks that actors are loud and annoying and has a hatred of them.
Angry, cynical, bitter, overly judgemental of others. Gets embarrassed easily. Tries to act tough. Hates egotistical and loud people.
Voice notes:
Medium female voice, maybe a bit on the androgynous side.
Tries to speak like a “tough guy,” but still sounds like a teenaged girl. She may try to pitch her voice a little lower and make herself sound “cool.” Demonstrates strong emotions like anger and shock quite frequently. Abrasive and judgemental.
(Annoyed) Tch, what’s wrong with those guys? They’re so loud.
(Anger) Will you just shut up? No one wants to hear your damn whining!
(Embarrassed) I-I didn’t scream just now, so shut up!
Personality notes:
The Ultimate Zither Player. Incredibly talented musician. A young woman who wishes to share her passion for music to those around her.
Has a very motherly personality, takes care of everyone else. Tries her best to keep her classmates in line. Has little patience for immature or reckless people. Wants to keep order in the group.
Voice notes:
Medium high female voice.
Sounds soothing, mature, and kind. Has a lilting tone. When she’s angry, it’s in a “nagging” sort of way.
(Gentle) Now, now, there’s no need to worry. I’ll take care of you.
(Angry) Quit fighting, you two! Try to act your age!
(Sad) They died so soon… We have no choice but to keep the victim in our hearts.
Personality notes:
The Ultimate Pet Therapist. Resolves behavioral issues in clients’ pets. Spent too much time around animals and ended up forgetting how to act around people.
Very shy and withdrawn. Struggles to talk to or interact with humans. Doesn’t like talking or loud sounds. Acts a bit like a timid kitten...
Voice notes:
Medium to medium high male or androgynous voice.
Has a stutter and generally struggles with forming sentences. Shy, hesitant, and soft-spoken.
(Nervous) Uh, um… I… I’ll just leave, I guess. I don’t think you want me here...
(Scared) Eep! I’m sorry! Please just leave me alone!
(Thoughtful) I suppose, um, the killer… Maybe they escaped through the window...
Personality notes:
The Ultimate Jockey. Strangely, in spite of his talent, has a fear of horses. As a result of this he doesn't like his talent.
His two main moods are anger and fear, sometimes both. Always picking fights with others, but gets frightened very easily. Both aggressive and a coward. Dislikes everyone and everything.
Voice notes:
Medium to medium high male voice.
Very emotional. Screams and yells often. Over-dramatic and loud. Has a fretful, tense tone normally.
(Angry) The fuck did you say to me? I’ll beat your face into a pulp!
(Scared) AAAAHHHHHHH!! Get away from me!!
(Panicking) Ohhh shit, I’m totally gonna die here! I’m too young to die!
Personality notes:
The Ultimate Bowler. Won the national championships when she was 12. Likes to be around other people.
Pretends to be sweet and kind, but can be quite cruel to others. Constantly putting on a facade of innocence that most people see through. Loves insulting others and has no problem with manipulating others to get what she wants. Will put on fake crocodile tears if criticized.
Voice notes:
High female voice.
Tries to sound cutesy, sometimes overly so (so it can sound forced or fake). At times can be mean to others and will sound mocking or snide.
(Cheerful) We’re gonna be best friends, okaaaay?
(Mocking) Huuh? Why would I even think about hanging out with a stinky loser like you?
(Upset) Why… Why would you say something so cruel? *sniff* I’m so upset...
Personality notes:
The Ultimate Student. Has one of the highest grade rankings in the country, and is unparalleled in her ability to learn and memorize new information. Constantly preoccupied with maintaining her rankings and maximizing her time to be as 'productive' as possible.
Usually quiet and reserved. Spends most of her time studying, rather than socializing with others. Gets annoyed when bothered. Has a calm, rational mind.
Voice notes:
Medium-high female voice.
Calm and collected. Usually demonstrates little emotion, but can get a little angry at times.
(Neutral) I can handle it. In a day, I could probably memorize the contents of multiple books like this one.
(Irritated) Can you take your conversation elsewhere? You’re disturbing my concentration.
(Startled) Whoa! Give that back! That belongs to me!
Personality notes:
The Ultimate Horror Fanatic. Obsessed with all things horror, leading to her studying horror media and psychology. She loves the adrenaline rush she gets from feeling scared.
Loves rambling about things she’s interested in, but is self concious about her interests. Finds the killing game and the reactions her peers display to the killing game fascinating. Usually excited and high energy.
Voice notes:
Medium high to high female voice.
Cheerful, enthusiastic, excitable. At times sounds a touch creepy. Loves rambling and will often lose track of things. Speaks quickly at times. Animated sounding.
(Gleeful) Maybe we’ll find out that we’re all forced to kill each other in cold blood! Wouldn’t that be exciting!
(Disappointed) I often scare away people because I talk about horror so much… You don’t think I’m weird, do you?
(Interested) How exactly does your “bad luck” work? If I were to flip a coin and say that I’d kill you if it lands on heads and kill myself if it lands on tails, what would the result be?
Personality notes:
The Ultimate Inspirational Speaker. Inspires those around him with motivational speeches. Quite humble regarding his own talent.
Tries his best to live up to the motivated ideal that his fans see him as. Encourages those around him. Gets a little nervous when praised. At times, a more tired personality slips through.
Voice notes:
Medium male voice.
Sounds like he’s giving a speech. A little bit showy, and very confident. Sounds very professional.
At certain times, when he’s unhappy, he switches into a very different voice inflection. He’ll sound more bitter, cynical, quieter and lazy.
(Encouraging) Don’t give up hope now! Day to day persistence is key to achieving our goals!
(Embarrassed) Ahaha… You sure think highly of me. I’m not sure how to react that...
(Cynical) Tch. Why do you still bother looking for a signal? No one’s coming to rescue us.
Personality notes:
The mascot of an unheard of reality TV show called “Danganronpa: Despair Time.” Serves to reinforce the rules of the killing game TV show.
Has a cartoonish, exaggerated sort of personality.
Voice notes:
Medium to high pitched androgynous voice.
MonoTV is a mascot-type character, so it’s got a bit of a silly/goofy voice. Usually bright and chipper. Even when displaying other emotions like disappointment or anger, it’s usually done for comedic effect.
(Cheerful) Introduuucing—! The most important character in the cast, MonoTV! That’s me! Nyahaha!
(Angry) Just start killing each other, damn it! We’re losing viewer retention at an alarming rate!
(Sheepish) I’m sorry for missing today’s morning announcement, but I was asleep. Robots need sleep too, you know!
