About

▸ ME ◂

Hello, I go by Ruby J Shilan. I am a shy and awkward VA 🎤 (an ironic combo). It's currently a hobby, as attempting to go pro isn't something I'm certain about nor ready for. Other hobbies of mine include art ✍ and music 🎵.

I first started auditioning on BTVA. Been singing since 2011/voice acting since 2013. My first 'real' fan voice acting project was of 'The Gray Garden'.

▸ VOICE ◂

I have two 'base' voices: the high, shy voice and the low, awkward voice. And I can kinda sing too.

Description: Somewhat soft-spoken, more elegant/feminine, slightly nasally, younger-sounding (currently), weak/thin.

Range: Female; High to Medium-low. Androgynous; High to upper-Medium.

Extra things I can do: Yelling, add rasp & comically sound "older", sound more nasally...

And the occasion where I try to voice male characters: Soft-spoken, lighter tone (not bass-heavy). Can sound rough, politely-spoken and/or nasally. For younger characters.

▸ CHALLENGES ◂

My biggest challenges with voice acting would be:

  • Enunciation - I slurred a LOT back in the day and hadn't learnt to pronounce words fully. Since then I've improved greatly, though I have a slight "accent" which is just a part of me and my voice.

  • Keeping a consistent tone - Several of the tones I do aren't "natural" with the way I speak. I tend to revert back to my base voices sometimes. Perhaps when I do revert is when my emotion comes through most.

I am grateful for the opportunities I've had so far and hope to continue improving with every recording! ^o^

Pricing

Both unpaid/paid.

If paid, I would most likely accept the proposed amount as the budget allows. It's more about the enjoyment of doing voice over work and the experience, rather than about money.
