Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Full Fandub

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Full Fandub

Project Overview

Hello, all!

I recently experienced some really intense creative burnout, so in order to ease myself back into the audio world, I want to do something I haven't done in a long time: a full fandub!  After some debating on which movie to do, I rewatched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and remembered how much I loved the movie and thought it would be really fun to work with!

The only characters who will not be dubbed are the singing puppets and the Oompa-Loompas, mostly because the amount of audio work that would require is out of my scope at the moment.  But if you REALLY want to play that part, you are welcome to record an audition and send it to me.

DETAILS:

1. I am always willing to be flexible with deadlines as I understand real life has to come first, but I also won't wait around forever and will recast if you prove to be unreliable.

2. Give me emotion and feeling in your audition!  I have always leaned more towards voice actors who exhibit true passion in their voice.

3. Please be open to the idea of accepting a role you did not originally audition for.

4. Mic quality will play a huge role in casting decisions.  If you receive a better microphone after you submit your audition, you will need to submit a new audition rather than just tell me you have one.  I am going to base my decision on what I hear.

5. When I cast roles, I also look at your CCC profile.  The style of it (i.e. good grammar, the amount of information you supply, a profile picture) can influence my casting decision.

6. Communication will be done entirely through email, so you must have an email address that you check regularly.

Role assigned to: Daniel Berry

The creator of the Wonka chocolate factory and a genius when it comes to making candy.  However, he also has zero social skills as a result of having no human contact for at least a decade.

As a child, Willy Wonka was the son of a dentist who forbid him to eat any candy.  But that didn't stop him from trying some anyway and becoming obsessed with the different kinds of chocolate and candy in the world.  He soon started his own business which flourished until it became a giant factory.  Unfortunately, spies began stealing secret recipes forcing him to close the factory and fire all of the personnel.  The factory opens up again later with the help of the Oompa-Loompas.  When Wonka realizes he's getting older, he realizes that he needs someone to take over the factory, so he sends out five golden tickets with the hopes of finding an heir.  Charlie Bucket succeeds and also helps him reconcile with his father.  Wonka then finds a family in the Buckets.

Age: 56

Voice: awkward, childish, American accent

Original Actor: Johnny Depp

  • Everything in this room is eatable.  Even I’m eatable.  But that is called cannibalism, my dear children, and is, in fact, frowned upon in most societies.

  • The best kind of prize is a SURprise. Ha ha ha!

  • (after Charlie tells him he won't move to the factory without his family) Wow.  Well, that’s just…unexpected, and…weird.  But I suppose, in that case, I’ll just…Goodbye, then.  Sure you won’t change your mind?  Okay.  Bye.

Though Charlie Bucket comes from a poor family that can barely afford to eat, he is a sweet and kind little boy.  He happens to find a golden ticket by chance, and then is given Wonka's chocolate factory.  However, when Wonka tells him that he would have to leave his family behind, Charlie declines the offer.  Wonka is confused by this, having fallen out long ago with his father, so Charlie helps him make amends with his own family.  After this, he accepts Wonka's offer and the entire Bucket family moves into the chocolate factory and becomes a surrogate family to Willy Wonka.

*Charlie will most likely be played by a female as his voice has not broken yet*

Age: 10

Voice: kind, generous, English accent

Original Actor: Freddie Highmore

  • I don’t think that was really fair.  She didn’t find the ticket herself.

  • Mum!  Dad!  I found it!  The last golden ticket!  It’s mine!

  • So if I go with you to the factory, I won’t ever see my family again?  Then I’m not going.  I wouldn’t give up my family for anything.  Not for all the chocolate in the world.

Role assigned to: Emcee Voices

Grandpa Joe used to work for Willy Wonka right at the beginning when he was just starting out.  He tells Charlie stories from Wonka's heyday like the tale of an Indian prince who had an entire palace made of chocolate.  Even after all these years, he still admires the man and wishes he could see the factory again.  He gets his wish when Charlie wins a golden ticket, and he suddenly gets onto his feet for the first time in who-knows-how-long.

Age: 96

Voice: elderly, passionate, excitable, English accent

Original actor: David Kelly

  • Willy Wonka began with a single store on Cherry Street.  But the whole world wanted his candy.

Mike Teavee is a rude little boy who thinks he's a genius which only goes to show how little he truly knows.  He manipulates the system to find a golden ticket when he doesn't even like chocolate and thinks candy is pointless.  He's just a joy.  Mike is the fourth child to do something stupid and gets himself shrunken down to a few inches tall.  He gets put into the taffy puller to stretch him out and becomes tall and extremely skinny.

*Mike will most likely be played by a female as his voice has not broken yet*

Age: 10

Voice: pompous, derogatory, American accent

Original Actor: Jordan Fry

  • If you hate gum so much, why do you make it?

  • You don’t understand anything about science.  First off, there’s a difference between waves and particles.  Duh!  Second, the amount of power it would take to convert energy into matter would be like nine atomic bombs.

  • (when told Mr. Wonka knows what he's talking about) No, he doesn’t.  He has no idea.  You think he’s a genius, but he’s an idiot.  But I’m not.
