B.A.D [an animated short]
Project Overview
Welcome to the casting call for B.A.D! This is a short animated comedy I'm working on, primarily for school. The film centers around three aspiring villains [Bradley, Axel, and Dominic] attempting to pay rent for their base [a one bedroom apartment in central Philadelphia]. The trio take different approaches to obtaining this money, which happens to end up clashing in the end. Hopefully it's funny?
The film will likely be about five minutes long. It will probably be shown at my school's film festival, as well as uploaded to Youtube. Though the original plan was to [somehow] finish this whole project by late March, that doesn't seem super possible. Because of that, the project is being scheduled to be finished fall of this year instead. That means it'll likely go up on youtube early and be placed in next years film festival. The bright side is that it will be up for judging then.
Multiple takes of each line would be appreciated! Feel free to hit up with any questions!
Payment is possible? But please don't go into this expecting to be paid. As an artist, I'd feel bad completely not reimbursing anyone who works on this project. Because of that, those who get the role are entitled to a free art piece at the very least. I'm trying to set up a way to pay people, in which case everyone would get 10$-15$ each. I'm a student without a job, so I don't have much money. Hopefully these options are enough!

Sorry this is a bit late! Hopefully this sketch makes up for it some. It took me a little longer to make a decision on one of the boys than I expected, but we're finally here! Congrats to everyone who made it and thank you so much to everyone else who auditioned. I'm going to officially confirm the roles in a second, but considering I messed that up by accident once I'd like to put it out this way first. Expect a message from me about further communication later. To everyone that didn't make it, I know you're all going places and I'd greatly appreciate it if you continued to follow the project! I will continue to post updates here as the project progresses. I know I keep saying thank you, like, excessively, but honestly all of this support makes me so happy. In case the image doesn't work: Bradley: RacoonBro Axel: oppletron Dominic: Kerwin T Thanks!

Yep, I'm Still Picking Things
Hello everybody, this is going to be short and sweet. At this point I essentially know who's going to play who. I'm only waiting on one person [off site] to get back to me with something. Whether I get it by the end of the weekend or not, expect roles to be finalized by Monday! -
Actors Will Be Picked Soon!
Hello! I'd like to start off with a very enthusiastic thank you to everyone who auditioned! With nearly 90 auditions, it's hard to explain how happy I am! I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart that such talented people are willing to lend a hand. Listening to all the auditions as they came in would make my day. In the next few days, I will be my final decisions on the voice actors. In that time, you might receive a message from me asking about things like your volume or range. If you don't, don't worry about it. There's also a few of you that wanted feedback or really struck me for one reason or another. You'll hopefully be receiving messages in the next week too. Once again, you're all amazing, even if you didn't get the part. It's going to be hard to pick just one for all of these roles. With that, have a lovely day! -
New Deadline and Other Plans
Hello everyone! As you can probably see, I've pushed the deadline back significantly. This is because after evaluating my circumstances I doubt I'll be able to get this done by the end of March. Because of this, I'm leaving myself a lot more time to finish it. The deadline for the casting call is still relatively close [considering the new planned date for the whole thing to be finished by is sometime in October, which is pretty generous] but that's just because having the voices and voice actors through the whole animation process would make things a lot easier. Because of these new dates and plans, that gives me more time to work with you all! I'm honestly blown away by how many people have auditioned for my little thing. It's hard to express how happy that makes me, especially since I'm currently pretty down about having to push dates back. I'm going to be editing the description to accurately reflect the new deadlines and situation overall. Additionally, I'm probably going to be making big changes to Axel's description again. This is because I've been noticing a few repeat issues with delivery that were significantly lessened when I gave people who auditioned through email a different description. The other two will be staying as they are and I might even be closing their roles closer to the previous deadline since I have a handful I really like for them already! Thanks again everyone! -
Some Specifications!
First of all, I'm very thankful for everyone that's already auditioned! I wasn't expecting this much interest right off the bat and there's already some fantastic voices to choose from! I've listened to each one multiple times and after doing so made some specifications to some of the roles so that I can better narrow down what I'm looking for Bradley's Updates: > I've specified that Bradley's voice is a bit higher. > I've eased up on my desire for the accent. If you would have to force an accent to play the role, don't worry about it! Some of the auditions without the accent have been some of my favorites Axel's Updates: > I've put more emphasis on the deepness of his voice, as it's probably the deepest of the three > I've changed up my wording on how he speaks. He's serious, but not necessarily stilted. He's very passionate and frustrated, which I think does a better job of getting to the tone I'm looking for > I've changed his accent to North American, as I've found that seems to be what sounds the best for him. However, feel free to audition for him even if you have a different accent. Dominic had no updates because I love the different directions you all are taking with him and I'm confident I'll be able to pick an amazing voice for him. I'll be replying to some of your auditions with feedback today, maybe tomorrow. If any of you want to re-audition, feel free to! You can also feel free to message me if you want more details. I've been keeping very on top of all of this because I'm extremely excited. It means a lot to me that you all are willing to try out! Happy auditioning and good luck!
Bradley is a moody witch. His default tone is dry, sarcastic, tired, and disinterested. He's not always up for his friends' special brand of bullshit and will make this known. For the most part, he serves as the straight man of the film, taking a logical approach to making money by getting a job. His voice likely isn't as deep as the other two and if you don't think you can manage the accent, it's not a total requirement.
For extra context, he's been studying witchcraft since his early childhood and though it's not addressed in the script, this is happening pretty directly after getting dumped by his long term boyfriend.
[speaking to himself, leaning on the counter] I’ve had this job for a grand total of two hours and I already feel like my soul is being slowly drained from my body.
Axel, I appreciate your drive, but this is pathetic.
[shouting] What the bloody hell are you doing here?
Axel is an aggressive android and the de facto leader of B.A.D. He is assertive and formal with a relatively deep voice, likely the deepest of the trio. It's rare that his tone doesn't hold some sort of tension and more so than any of the characters does he raise his voice. He's not afraid to yell at people, which is why being able to properly shout is a major requirement for him. Even though he's a robot, his voice still sound natural. It's not overly stilted or processed and probably won't have any sort of filter over it. The closest comparison I've found in terms of delivery would be Bakugou, if I'm going to be honest.
For extra context, Axel was essentially built to be a leader. He's been doing this for years and has recently been knocked down a peg. He's currently trying to find a balance between treating the other two as friends and subordinates. This can lead to him coming off as aggressively motivational, especially towards the beginning.
[offended] Pathetic? I, Axel, am a highly advanced android, engineered specifically for firearm combat. Bradley, you are a master of the dark arts, having honed your skills from childhood. [slightly more deadpan] Dominic is a furry.
Alright, as much as it pains me to admit that you’re better than me at anything, it’s only factual that you’re a more experienced crook than I am.
[shouting] It’s a tentative name!
Dominic is a relatively laid back demon. He's easily confused but his intentions are good and he puts it upon himself to provide levity. Dominic has notably less lines than the other leads, but he plays a very important part regardless. I have less expectations for his voice than the others. As long as it's somewhat deep and pretty expressive [not like, off the walls goofy, but he speaks with emotion] you can have fun with it!
For extra context, he's the only member of B.A.D that's not there because he was essentially forced out of his old circumstances. He chose to join because he likes Bradley and Axel.
Well, if we’re gonna be evil, why not just... Steal the money?
[starting off smug] Well, in my apparently expert opinion, we probably shouldn’t use weapons, since that makes things worse if we get caught.
[takes a deep breath before bursting through the door and shouting] GIVE US ALL YOUR MONEY!
