Ashfall (Working Title)

Ashfall (Working Title)

Project Overview

ASHFALL (Working Title) is an original, realistic first-person tactical multiplayer shooter built in Unreal Engine 5 - set in its own fictional world, with its own factions, weapons, characters, and locations. Nothing in Ashfall borrows names, characters, art, or audio from any existing title.

THE PREMISE: An unspecified, large-scale catastrophe - known only as "the Ashfall event" - has forced the evacuation of several real-world-inspired cities. Two fictional factions now fight for control of what's left: Kestrel Group, a disciplined multinational PMC coalition of decommissioned special-forces veterans, and The Vantage Combine, a scrappier, more improvised coalition of independent militias and salvage crews. Both factions are entirely fictional - no real-world military, nation, or company is depicted or implied.

Matches take place across original, evacuated-city environments across five game modes: Scrimmage, Hostage Rescue, Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Sabotage.

ENGINE & PLATFORM: Unreal Engine 5. Initial release targeted for Steam, with additional platforms to be decided.

RATING & TONE: Mature (18+) - realistic combat violence and strong language consistent with other military/tactical shooters. This is NOT an adult/sexual-content project; the 18+ rating reflects tone and realism, not explicit content.

PROJECT STATUS: Ashfall is in active development. Core multiplayer systems are already implemented and functioning, including server-authoritative shooting, movement, and damage; a working economy and in-match store; vehicles; destructible cover; and the first tranche of playable operators. Ten flagship operators (five per faction) are fully designed. This casting call is going out ahead of full audio integration so voice direction is ready as those systems come online.

WHY WE'RE CASTING: Every operator in Ashfall is meant to feel like a distinct person, and every match should sound like it's being fought by two very different organizations. We're casting ten operators with real personality, plus two faction dispatch voices - and separately, we're also looking for a few people to help actually build the game alongside us (see the non-voice-acting roles further down: 3D Artist, Animator, Audio Engineer, and Writer).

COMPENSATION - please read carefully: This is a paid project, but payment does not begin immediately at the time of casting or recording. The first release of Ashfall must be completed and officially launched on Steam (and any other selected platforms) before ongoing payment begins. After Ashfall officially releases, selected contributors who continue working with the development team going forward will be eligible for ongoing monthly compensation, covering continued work such as game updates, bug fixes, new content, additional operators, and future projects. Specific rates for ongoing post-release work will be discussed individually with contributors who choose to continue with the team - we are not publishing dollar figures here because none have been finalized yet. To be unmistakably clear: you will not be paid immediately upon recording your lines or delivering your work for this initial round. We only want people on board who are comfortable with that arrangement.

CREDITS: All contributors receive in-game credits naming you for your role, social media credit when the project is promoted publicly, and the possible opportunity (not a guarantee) to have a character concept inspired by or modeled after you appear in the game in the future, for contributors who continue with the team.

DEVELOPMENT EXPECTATIONS: Ashfall is being built by a small, independent team moving as quickly as we responsibly can without sacrificing quality. Some direction or lines may be revised as underlying game systems (audio, ability effects, UI) are finished - we'll flag this if it affects you. Contributors who enjoy the project and want to keep working with us should expect ongoing work after the initial release - this is intended to be a long-term collaboration for anyone who wants it. We communicate primarily over Discord and aim to be responsive and clear about scheduling, direction, and next steps.

CONTACT: Discord - Bipolix. Please reach out with questions, audition submissions, portfolio links, or follow-ups. This is our primary point of contact for this casting call.

AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS (for voice roles): Read the character breakdown on the role you're interested in before recording. Record all listed audition lines for that character in a single, clearly labeled audio file. Dry, clean recordings only - no music, reverb, or processing. Give your own interpretation rather than a flat, neutral read. Feel free to submit for more than one role, including roles on both factions. Accents listed are the target we're writing toward, not a strict nationality requirement - if you can convincingly perform the described voice and accent, we want to hear from you regardless of your own background.

OUR VISION: We want Ashfall to feel grounded and mature rather than over-the-top - professional soldiers and desperate scavengers fighting over the ruins of places that used to be ordinary cities. The tone we're chasing is closer to serious modern tactical shooters than to arcade action: controlled intensity, real stakes, and characters who sound like they've actually done this before. We're an independent team building an ambitious project on a realistic timeline, and we'd rather get fewer things right than rush everything and get it wrong.

WHAT CONTRIBUTORS CAN EXPECT: A clear character brief and full audition sides for every voice role (this description plus each role's own listing is that brief). Direction and context from the development team once cast. Full credit for your work. The possibility of continued work with the team after Ashfall's release. Honest communication about where the project actually is at any given time.

Warden — Elena Voss (Kestrel Group, Assault)

Deferred: Agreed Amount

FACTION: Kestrel Group | ROLE: Assault | GENDER: Female | AGE: Early-mid 30s | ACCENT TARGET: German-accented English

WHO SHE IS: A former Bundeswehr NCO who joined Kestrel Group in its earliest days. Warden is steady, methodical, and utterly unflappable — the kind of soldier who's led enough pushes through open ground to have stopped being afraid of it. She leads from the front because she trusts herself with the risk more than she trusts anyone else with it.

HER ROLE IN ASHFALL: Front-line Assault operator in an original, realistic tactical multiplayer FPS (Unreal Engine 5, Steam release planned). Her signature ability, the Riot Shield Drone, is a small wheeled ballistic shield she pushes forward as mobile cover for her team.

VOICE & PERFORMANCE: Low-to-mid register, controlled and deliberate even under pressure. Never panicked — even her urgent lines are disciplined urgency, not chaos. German accent should color her English without hurting clarity. Needs a believable shift from calm tactical instruction to sharp command-voice intensity while staying composed.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: An actor comfortable with restrained, controlled intensity — someone who can shout an order and still sound like the calmest person in the room.

AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS: Record all lines below in one clearly labeled file. Dry/clean recording, no processing. Give us your own interpretation, not a flat read. See the main project description for full context on Ashfall, compensation terms, and credit terms.

AUDITION LINES:

1. "Warden, moving up. Cover the left."

2. "Command, Warden — position secure, awaiting orders."

3. "Shield's up. Get behind it."

Deferred: Agreed Amount

FACTION: Kestrel Group | ROLE: Recon | GENDER: Male | AGE: Late 20s-30s | ACCENT TARGET: Neutral American or Hispanic-American

WHO HE IS: A former long-range reconnaissance patrol scout, Hollow is patient almost to a fault — comfortable sitting still and watching for far longer than most people could stand. He's the one who sees the fight before it starts, and he'd rather stop it from starting at all if he can.

HIS ROLE IN ASHFALL: Recon operator in an original, realistic tactical multiplayer FPS (Unreal Engine 5, Steam release planned), armed with a marksman rifle. His Pulse Binoculars briefly reveal enemy silhouettes through smoke or foliage in a cone ahead of him.

VOICE & PERFORMANCE: Quiet, measured, low-volume even in his intense lines — his tension shows in pace and precision, not volume. A dry, understated sense of humor should come through in his personality line. Needs a believable whisper-adjacent "keeping quiet" register for scouting lines, contrasted with a sharper, faster delivery when he breaks cover.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: An actor who can act "quiet" convincingly without going breathy or losing clarity — think a sniper's stillness, not a horror-movie whisper.

AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS: Record all lines below in one clearly labeled file. Dry/clean recording, no processing. Give us your own interpretation, not a flat read. See the main project description for full context on Ashfall, compensation terms, and credit terms.

AUDITION LINES:

FACTION: Kestrel Group | ROLE: Support/Medic | GENDER: Female | AGE: Late 20s | ACCENT TARGET: West African-British (Ghanaian heritage)

WHO SHE IS: A combat medic who moves fast and talks faster, Splice is the reason Kestrel loses fewer people than it should. She's warm without being soft — the kind of person who'll crack a joke while she's got both hands in your wound, because it keeps you calm and it keeps her steady too.

HER ROLE IN ASHFALL: Support/Medic operator in an original, realistic tactical multiplayer FPS (Unreal Engine 5, Steam release planned), running an SMG. Her Trauma Kit Deployable is a placeable station teammates can use for a fast partial heal on a cooldown.

VOICE & PERFORMANCE: Warm, quick, focused — never panicked, but capable of real urgency when a teammate is down. Should carry a believable West African-British accent flavor. Her personality line should land as genuinely wry, not forced comic relief.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: An actor who can play warmth and competence at the same time — caring without sounding fragile, funny without undercutting the tension.

AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS: Record all lines below in one clearly labeled file. Dry/clean recording, no processing. Give us your own interpretation, not a flat read. See the main project description for full context on Ashfall, compensation terms, and credit terms.

FACTION: Kestrel Group | ROLE: Breacher | GENDER: Male | AGE: Early-mid 30s | ACCENT TARGET: Eastern European / Slavic

WHO HE IS: Anchor is the first one through every door, every time, without exception. Blunt, forceful, and not big on speeches — he'd rather solve a problem with a well-placed charge than a long conversation about it.

HIS ROLE IN ASHFALL: Breacher operator in an original, realistic tactical multiplayer FPS (Unreal Engine 5, Steam release planned), running a shotgun. His Frame Charge blows a man-sized hole through a designated weak wall segment.

VOICE & PERFORMANCE: Gravelly, forceful, economical — Anchor doesn't waste words. His intense lines should feel like barely-contained aggression, not screaming. A Slavic/Eastern European accent should be clearly present but not exaggerated into caricature.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: An actor who can sound genuinely dangerous at a conversational volume — Anchor doesn't need to yell to be intimidating.

WHO SHE IS: Static is analytical almost to a fault, treating the chaos of the Ashfall zones like a puzzle she hasn't quite finished solving yet. She's not cold, exactly — just precise, and mildly amused by everyone around her who isn't.

HER ROLE IN ASHFALL: Technology Specialist operator in an original, realistic tactical multiplayer FPS (Unreal Engine 5, Steam release planned), running an SMG. Her Jammer Pylon disables enemy electronic gadgets — cameras, drones — in a radius.

VOICE & PERFORMANCE: Precise, quick, dry-witted. Delivery should sound like someone thinking two steps ahead even mid-sentence. A South Asian-British accent should come through clearly. Her intense lines should sound like frustration at a problem, not fear.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: An actor with strong comic timing who can still land a serious, sharp line when the moment calls for it.

FACTION: The Vantage Combine | ROLE: Assault | GENDER: Male | AGE: Early 30s | ACCENT TARGET: Neutral American or British

WHO HE IS: Rook leads from the front the same way Warden does — but where she does it out of discipline, he does it out of appetite. He's confident, aggressive, and genuinely believes the Vantage Combine's scrappy, take-what-you-need approach beats Kestrel's rulebook every time.

HIS ROLE IN ASHFALL: Front-line Assault operator in an original, realistic tactical multiplayer FPS (Unreal Engine 5, Steam release planned). His Scrap Barricade is a deployable cover panel he can throw down mid-fight.

VOICE & PERFORMANCE: Gritty, confident, a little cocky — Rook enjoys the fight more than he'd probably admit. His intense lines should carry real aggression and urgency, not just volume. Should sound like a natural leader of an unofficial crew, not a soldier.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: An actor who can play swagger without tipping into cartoonish — Rook is dangerous, not goofy.

HER ROLE IN ASHFALL: Recon operator in an original, realistic tactical multiplayer FPS (Unreal Engine 5, Steam release planned), running an SMG. Her Tripwire Alarm is a silent trap that pings her whole team when an enemy crosses it.

VOICE & PERFORMANCE: Soft-spoken, sly, almost playful about danger. Should sound genuinely pleased when a trap works — not sadistic, just satisfied. Needs a believable shift into sharp urgency when a plan goes wrong.

We're looking for a writer to help flesh out operator bios, faction lore, in-world flavor text (loading screens, item descriptions, dispatch barks), and possibly light narrative design for future modes. No dialogue recording involved - this is a writing/worldbuilding role. This is a paid role, but payment begins after Ashfall officially releases on Steam, not immediately - see the full project description above for details. You'll get in-game and social media credit either way. Please share a couple of writing samples when you apply. Reach out on Discord: Bipolix.

Ashfall is an original tactical multiplayer FPS in Unreal Engine 5, in active development with ten flagship operators fully designed across two fictional factions. We're looking for a composer to help develop a score/theme - main menu music, faction themes for Kestrel Group and The Vantage Combine, and possibly in-match ambient/tension tracks. Tone should be grounded and serious, closer to modern tactical-shooter scoring than bombastic action music. This is a paid role, but payment begins after Ashfall officially releases on Steam, not immediately - see the full project description above for details. Deferred: Agreed Amount

NOTE: This is a programming/engineering role, not writing - it's posted under the "Writer" category only because Casting Call Club doesn't have a programmer category. We're looking for a programmer to help extend gameplay systems, netcode/replication, and UI/menu programming (HUD, store screens) alongside the existing codebase. This is a paid role, but payment begins after Ashfall officially releases on Steam, not immediately - see the full project description above for details.
