Project Overview

Rebecca Hall is a hard-nosed, no nonsense detective for the Austin, Texas police department. She lives the near perfect life, until a man comes into her life with a story that is destined to turn her world - and her vision of reality - upside down...


The Front Porch is a Southern-set anthology audio drama series. Each episode begins with an older storyteller seated on his porch at dusk, whittling wood and recounting tales of intent, consequence, and fate.

Episode One, The Man in Room Two, follows a man who walks into an Austin police station and confesses to dozens of murders—none of which can be proven. He claims he doesn’t kill with weapons… only with intent. And when a detective’s partner dies in the exact manner he “attempted,” coincidence begins to look like something else.


This is a grounded, character-driven thriller in the spirit of The Twilight Zone, but rooted in modern Southern realism.


  • Tone: restrained, naturalistic, intimate. No melodrama. No camp. No caricatures.

This is currently an unpaid passion project. However:


If the series generates revenue (via streaming, sponsorship, Patreon, distribution, etc.), 100% of net revenue will be distributed to cast and crew. The creator retains none.


This project is being built for quality and longevity, not quick monetization.

    Everyone,

    First, thanks to all for sending in your auditions for our effort. The interest in our little project is very heartening, and we can't wait to see how this one turns out!

    As of today (July 29th), the script has been completely written. All five episodes are ready to go.

    We have over 40 different characters to voice! Many of these are one-line cameos of course, but we do have several main characters. A lot of potential for the right actors to show their emotional chops.

    For those of you who I've spoken with, and offered positions to, I'll be getting with you to verify that you're still open to joining the project after our LONG hiatus.

    For all - we will be starting Auditions again, adding the new characters to the audition list, that that will begin in just a couple of days, on August 1st.

    Greetings, everyone!

    First of all, thank you all for the great auditions we've received! Trust to know that we are listening to every single one that comes in. We won't be naming parts until after the deadline, but know that your audition is not lost in the void!

    This is expected to be a 5-episode show. Episode one's script is ready to go, and we writers are working fervently on the 2nd and 3rd. There are some interesting twists and turns throughout, so it should be a fun ride!

    Again, thank you for all the auditions. It won't be long until we can get this "Shindig," as the Whittler would call it, off to a roaring start!

Detective Rebecca Hall is a seasoned homicide detective with the Austin PD. She is intelligent, controlled, and emotionally disciplined without being cold. A working mother, she balances professionalism with quiet vulnerability, never allowing either to fully dominate.

Hall does not grandstand. She listens more than she speaks. When she does speak, it’s precise, deliberate, and usually understated. Her authority comes from experience, not volume.

She is skeptical by nature, procedural by training, and slow to jump to conclusions. That skepticism will be tested in ways she cannot anticipate.


This is a character-driven audio drama.  Performances should prioritize authenticity over theatrics.  You are encouraged to bring your own interpretation within the boundaries of realism.


Performance Notes:


* Naturalistic delivery is essential.  This is not a heightened noir performance.  Keep it grounded

* Strength without hardness.  Hall is confident, not aggressive.  Controlled, not detached.

* Emotional Range matters.  Much of Hall's conflict is internal.  Subtle shifts in tone are more important than overt emotion.  

* Keep in mind this term:  "Competent under pressure." She's a natural leader, and able to think on her feet.  Even when rattled, she maintains composure... until she can't.

* A neutral American accent is preferred. A subtle Texas undertone is welcome but not required. If used, it should be restrained and situational.

We imagine him seated in a rocking chair at dusk, whittling wood — but his voice carries more weight than his appearance ever would.


He speaks with the calm certainty of someone who has already seen how the story ends.

There is no rush in him, and certainly no melodrama.  He is a man who seems to know all - a kind of southern Oracle.  You'd be afraid to approach him, but would be entranced by his talk, and what he has to say.


His Southern cadence should feel natural and lived-in.  This means no exaggeration of caricature.  Think restraint, not charm.


each episode he frames with quiet awareness. He seems to know more than he says, but he never explains. He does not judge the characters. He simply presents what happened… and lets the silence do the rest.

Her role in Episode One is to ground the procedural world — to provide contrast to Hall’s growing unease and to serve as the steady presence in the viewing room.
