VOICES NEEDED: Audiodrama (Round 2)
Project Overview
Welcome to round two of casting for my audiodrama! The Sodor Chronicles was born out of watching Thomas the Tank Engine over and over with my child during the day and Masterpiece Theater time period dramas in the evening; it’s a story that reimagines these timeless, classic characters as humans working on the Northwest Railway in 1920's Great Britain (Sodor, specifically). To many of you though, it will probably manifest as your average time-period audiodrama and prior knowledge of Thomas as a show or series isn’t required. You can read the complete fanfic here.
This particular casting call is looking to fill only two roles at the moment, though there are a few others that need filling that an applicant might be suitable for. Payment is as offered; I’m making no profit whatsoever off of this passion project so I’m offering what I can reasonably afford at this time (I also tip!). I, too, am a struggling actor so I do what I can!
Requirements for this audition:
Please have a clear mic. Preferably no pops, clicks or buzzes. I’m not expecting 100% studio quality perfection, but I would like a fairly clear recording.
No more than three takes of each line. Just one take of each is fine too.
Enunciate your words clearly.
I’m looking for strong acting that can convincingly carry the emotion that’s due, so please try to follow the sound/emotion directions given on the audition as best you can! I’m also looking for ‘natural’ sound, so please keep that in mind too.
If you were cast in the first round of auditions I’m not going to recast you for this one. I’m looking for a very diverse sound in the cast and though I know a lot of you have amazingly wide ranges I also want to give other actors a chance!
If cast:
I’m going to expect the completed lines in an MP3 or WAV file a month from the time of casting.
Payment will be given in full upon completion, preferably through Paypal.
A 2 week grace period will be given for overdue lines. After that, I will drop you and recast your part, no questions asked. It’s a harsh measure but I don’t want everyone to be kept waiting on the finished product indefinitely. I don’t want this to happen, so I’ll give reminders every so often of the impending due date to help out!
I prefer communication via email, but if communication via CCC messaging is preferable for you I can do that too. I’m also not opposed to giving recording directions via discord or skype if you feel you need/want it, but there won’t be any established group chat for this project.

This was definitely my most difficult project to cast yet. I'm SO grateful to everyone who took interest in this project and made me so spoiled for choice. I'm very humbled and you're all EXTREMELY talented. As concerns the role of Rosie, however, I want to be candid with everyone; I went into this with a very specific sound in mind and despite the countless, amazing auditions I got for her, I never quite heard the sound I was looking for. The sound I have in mind would capture her youth, innocence, fire-y nature and distinguish her from the rest of the cast, which is my ultimate goal. As such, this was purely a matter of looking for a specific sound, not a reflection or a statement on anyone's talent/abilities. I think it may have been poor direction on my part, so I may open her back up or feature her in another casting call once I can figure out how best to describe what approach I'm looking for with her. For now though, I'm going to be exploring some other options. I appreciate your understanding on this. Some characters I'm more lenient and open to hearing a wide array of approaches, and then there are others I really have to have something specific. Again though, thank you SO MUCH to everyone that participated. I often have paid projects I'm casting for so I hope you all will keep your eyes peeled and come audition when I pop up again! You're all so talented and I'm hoping to work with each and every one of you someday. :)

Deadline Date Updates
Hi everyone! As you know, today's the official 'cut off date', though admittedly I don't think I'll be ready to make final decisions until the middle of or just after the weekend. I wanted to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who auditioned! Everyone's sounded awesome and I'm once again awed at the talent here but, as with all casting calls, I'm looking for specific sounds and vocal tones for these characters and it's going to be more a matter of who got the closest to those. Either way, I really appreciate the help and enthusiasm for my little passion project. :) -
Auditions sound great! (plus some notes on Rosie)
I love what I'm hearing so far! Now that we're in the month of June I wanted to remind everyone we have until the 22nd before roles close. I also want to advise that everyone take a brief glance at the story to get an idea of line count/recording time. Some notes on the Rosie auditions: everyone's sounding amazing, but I WOULD like to hear some more higher-pitched sounds. I really want to highlight Rosie's youth; she, Thomas and Percy kind of serve as young, naive, bright-eyed foils to the main, older, jaded cast and I'd like for that to come through in her voice. A higher pitched lilt for her would be ideal, and don't be afraid to sound a bit 'whiny' too! Retakes for auditions are, of course, more than welcome!
The human conception of the titular character. Thomas is somewhere between 18-20 years old, very ambitious but a little immature and egotistical. His voice should reflect his youth and that cockiness, but the actor should be able to convey that he has a good heart as well. Looking for a British accent, I'm not particular on dialect.
(defiant, sizing up against someone being confrontational) "I am, sir…but I've always been led to believe the island of Sodor was a friendly place. What I witnessed your friend do to mailman Percy was not acceptable. Not anywhere."
(wistful, hopeful) "I-…I'm not really sure…you know, I'd like to hope it would be in the railway business somehow. I'd like to see the world by train, learn all there is to know about them. I'd really like to drive an engine someday!"
(determined) "Maybe I am, Percy, but if something bad comes of this are either of you going to be able to live with the thought that we did nothing? That we didn't even try? Stay here if you like. I'm going to investigate."
The human conception of Rosie from the series. This version of her is about 19 years old- she's dutiful, but a teensy bit bratty, naive and bossy at times. Looking for a British accent for her. Initially I imagined a Cockney accent, but I'm not particular, whatever you think will work!
(irritated, desperate to prove the other person wrong) "I'm telling you, we made an agreement! He'll likely be here this evening with the keys, just you wait and see!”
(sad, anxious, somewhat resigned- can be played a bit over dramatic tho) "I'll never see my father again. I'll never get to go back to my job. I love my job. I'm only 19 years old, I've so much left to do…"
(dismissive, conversational) "Don't get me wrong, the whole thing was terrible, but I am glad the Gala got pushed back. Getting all gussied up twice in one weekend would've been too much for me."
