Unsound Minds: The Clarevine Epoch is an 18+ yuri visual novel that merges Christianity, the Cthulhu Mythos, and the Dream Cycle together to try and tell a deep and dark story. I'm planning to go to Kickstarter to fund the completion of the rest of the game. Due to an unexpected 80+ people auditioning for the role of God for the game trailer, one of the stretch goals I've decided on is voice acting for the visual novel. Since this is for a stretch goal, there will be no exchange of money unless we hit the voice acting stretch goal. Of course, this also means that I don't expect you to do any work unless we hit the voice acting stretch goal.
While the accents I listed for each role are what I have in mind, they're not set in stone. Feel free to get creative with your accents! The world of Unsound Minds is a fictional place, after all!
NOTE: By 18+, I mean the game has nudity and sex scenes. However, we're not even going to attempt the erotic moaning thing I see other visual novels have. No. The way it's handled in The Clarevine Epoch is such that during sex scenes, there's legitimate dialogue and story progression. Still, if the mere fact that there's nudity and sex scenes is a deal breaker for you, then I've warned you. Another thing worth mentioning is that all the sex scenes involve Clarevine and Elina. No other roles have sex scenes.
NOTE: All prices listed are flat!
Reminiscent 64. If you grew up in the 90's and played video games, you likely understand the meaning behind "Reminiscent 64".
Reminiscent 64 was created for the sole purpose of having a studio name to publish my video games under. What should you expect from this studio, you might be wondering? I can only tell you to expect the unexpected. For I have no plans of creating the stereotypical dating simulator or anything of that sort.
NOTE: I calculated it like so: Clarevine has approximately 4525 words, and I assume you speak about 150 words per minute. According to Casting Call Club's listed average rates, 60 minutes of voice acting for non-broadcasts is about 9000 words read. It seems voice actors don't like not getting paid for the rejected lines so I'm thinking almost double the number of words Clarevine speaks is good enough to account for flubbed lines and such. So that's why I went a little higher than the 60 minute tier and went with the $700 price tag.
I'm imagining a standard North American accent for Clarevine. But don't let that stop you from auditioning! There's no set in stone accent for Clarevine!
Clarevine is a beautiful young women in her late teens (18 years old). You might think she's the talk of the town and the "popular girl", but no. Any chance of that ever being the case was thrown out the window when she was abandoned in the town of Gettlesteam at a young age. She was eventually saved from that life on the streets by a young up-and-coming scientist named Elina. The two fast became best friends after that.
Clarevine is an introvert. She typically tries her best to avoid talking to anyone who isn't her friend. She also doesn't like playing with teens her age. Hence why she tends to stick around Elina or her mentor Pedahzur.
When Elina isn't around, Clarevine has a tendency to walk the streets of Gettlesteam and carry out vigilante justice. She doesn't want anyone to experience the nightmarish things she had to go through on the streets to survive.
Her approximate power level: Batwoman.
It amazes me how numb I was to the insanity of being reduced to pleasing clients to eat, being creative in finding ways to keep clean and... well... ...not dying. |
Sleep?! While she destroys my body?! With all you have said, weighing on me? How can I ever-- |
Elin. You've poured so much of yourself into raising me. Please, stop with the worrying. |
NOTE: I came up with the price like so: Elina has approximately 1093 words. I'm assuming you speak about 150 words per minute, so when I do 150 * 15 I get 2250 words spoken. That's close to double 1093 so since voice actors don't like not getting paid for flubbed lines, I went with that. Thus I went with the 15 minute tier and went with $302.
I'm imagining a Texan accent, but don't let that stop you from auditioning! There's no set in stone accent for Elina!
Elina is a young adult in her late teens and is a member of the influential Schuetze (pronounced 'shootsy') clan. Said clan is a descendant of a demon I cannot reveal right now. Much of her family was quite interested in the sciences. Naturally, she also took a similar interest. She became a star scientist in Gettlesteam and eventually became the leader of the Tesla Research Group. Said research group is in charge of developing the first demon colony submarine to be able to reach the surface.
Elina doesn't have just a brilliant mind, she also has a caring heart. She found Clarevine in an alley, defiled in unspeakable ways, and took her up off the streets. With Pedahzur's help, she was able to save Clarevine, and they've become close friends since.
Elina is a bit of a worrywart when it comes to Clarevine. It stems from her love for her. She can't bear to see Clarevine hurt. When Elina isn't around Clarevine, she has a short fuse with anything she doesn't like or anyone on her bad side. As a result, whenever she's at work and around her more incompetent co-workers, she's largely in a bad mood.
Her approximate power level: Green Lantern.
UPDATE: Change of plans, no more Texan accent. Everyone's attempts have made me cringe so far.
Clare, I don't believe you are sick in the mind, but something is going on. I'm worried. |
Sure you have. Calling me 'Elin' drove it home. Just promise me this: take a few days to think about other options. We have a lot of time before the trip to the surface. Get some real sleep, have some fun. Ok? |
Did I lose my fucking mind last night or what?!! |
NOTE: I calculated the price like so: Aracelia has approximately 997 words spoken. That's not much different from Elina's number, and as such is still in the 15 minute range of average voice actor rates. So I went with a slightly lower number than the Elina role as a result since voice actors don't like not being paid for flubbed lines.
I have a british accent in mind, but again, the accent is not set in stone. Don't let it stop you from auditioning!
Aracelia is an angel cloaked in mystery. To Clarevine, she is a ghost tormenting her. To God, Aracelia is a poor soul; one of many that have been corrupted by the Dreamland Toxin.
A million thoughts run through her mind. Some of them from the sane part of her. Some of them from the corrupted part of her that controls her body now. Everyday, she fights to regain control of that which the Dreamland Toxin has stolen from her. But until that day arrives, Aracelia is a being that sees Clarevine and the others as nothing but lab rats for her own sick and twisted experiments. She's in a dark place right now, and there's no end to the fog of Dreamland Toxin.
Her approximate power level: Azrael.
Maybe the loss of one's sanity is the beginning of true understanding? |
You want answers about your parents. Maybe learning what I know will settle some long standing argument you have with yourself, thus making you a better person? I have the answers you crave. You have the answers I want. Come to the surface. Face me. Let's trade. |
No, no. Don't try to speak. You don't have many teeth left. Stitching your lips together was, I admit, overkill, so I broke your jaw. Still fighting, huh? The drill is for me. I like the sound it makes. Oh, you're going to pass out again? I'm hungry, so we'll pick this up later. |
Note: I calculated the price like so: Pedahzur has approximately 878 spoken words. Twice that is 1756 words. Assuming you speak around 150 words a minute, 150 * 12 is 1800 words. Thus, I went with a price that's a little higher than the 10 minute tier since voice actors don't like not being paid for flubbed lines.
I imagine Pedahzur with a british accent. I kid you not, think of Gandalf and Dumbledore. There's no set in stone accent for him though, so don't let it stop you from auditioning!
Pedahzur is the oldest living person in Gettlesteam. He lived to see the colony's creation and will likely live to see the colony's end. He is one of the only people left capable of using magic. The iconic barrier all around Gettlesteam that keeps water out was created by him. Due to the barrier constantly being in use, it has limited what Pedahzur can and cannot do with magic. That does not make him weak, however. For he lives in a forge-house and is not only skilled at crafting weapons but is also adept at using them.
Seldom does he take people under his wing to teach them his secrets, but Clarevine is the exception to the rule. When Elina showed up one night with a nearly spirit-broken Clarevine, Pedahzur saw great potential in the child.
Pedahzur is a grumpy old man when you annoy him. But, when you sit down and take the time to listen to what he has to say, he will impart you with sage advice.
His approximate power level: Etrigan.
My answer from before has not changed? You seem out of sorts. |
Leaving while someone is talking equates to rudeness! Kids today move too fast for their own good.... |
Many years ago, this was regarded as a trinket, a good luck charm, a symbol of hope, loathing and division. Decide what it means to you. Keep it close or give it away. |
NOTE: The captain has 226 spoken words. Twice that is 452. That number of words is less than the 5 minute tier's 750 words, so I went with a price greater than the 2 minute price average that also didn't feel too low.
The captain of the ship. Or is it? Pedahzur is a master of illusions after all...
Joplin Nemo. What a strange name. Here's your map, keep it close. You're one of the mineral grunts? Pretty young, aren't you? Nice necklace. |
I wanted Elina's mind at ease. Joining the crew was the better option. The original captain might not agree... |
Busy. I knew you'd find your way. Just wanted to be here, just in case. Drink? |
NOTE: I calculated the price like so: guy has 25 spoken words so I went with a price that's a little bit more than Borkslew's.
The voice of a young adult might also work here.
A random citizen of Gettlesteam.
You're not a mute, are you? |
This affects all of us. You really don't have an opinion? |
What a smart-ass. |
NOTE: I came up with the $10 price tag because she has only 5 spoken words.
A random citizen of Gettlesteam.
Well, you did ask her. |
NOTE: I calculated the price like so: the guard has 38 spoken words so I went with a price larger than guy's price tag.
A guard making sure no unauthorized personnel enter the experimental submarine.
New orders. Gather your things. Check in with your dispatcher outside the ship. |
Come along please. We have a schedule to keep. You can clear up things when you-- |
NOTE: The officer has 11 spoken words so I went with a price way lower than the 2 minute price average that still felt right.
An officer of the submarine who coincidentally also looks like the guard.
You need to leave this area! |
Pick up the pace! |
NOTE: I determined the price like so: Borkslew has exactly 12 words spoken, so I went with way less than the 2 minute price average.
He is a descendant of the demon Allocer. And like his descendant, he too has certain characteristics of a lion. He is generally disinterested in interacting with people in his workplace and much prefers focusing on his job.
His approximate power level: Kite Man.
You're late, Elina. |
Haven't gotten an update from Kryss, yet. |
Uh, right. |
NOTE: I determined the price tag like so: Kryss has 51 spoken words so I went with a price way less than the 2 minute tier but higher than Borkslew's price.
He is a descendant of the demon Belial. He enjoys making people’s lives miserable as well as loves trying to piss people off. He’s a huge bitch and an asshole to everyone.
His approximate power level: Clock King.
Absolutely. Since you headed up this project, things have been very efficient. Chary needs a hand. |
You and your team are needed elsewhere. We all share resources at this company. |
Who the hell are you to-- |
NOTE: I calculated the price like so: the radio person has exactly 101 words spoken. Twice that is 202. That's still lower than the two minute tier, so I went with $106 since it doesn't seem too low.
The radio person is an extra who reveals a bit of what's going on in the demon colonies.
Update: I recommend not using a high-pitched voice.
Our very own hometown of Gettlesteam is having a festival to commemorate final deliberations with neighboring town Triklepour, to reach the surface. |
Our scientists have long asserted that the planet we inhabit has a surface and is far larger than was once believed. |
The Project, once stalled in loggerheads, has moved forward in earnest since Dr. Elina Schuetze spearheaded an intensive diplomatic approach. I can't even begin to imagine what will be found when the expedition reaches-- |
NOTE: I came up with the price like so: there are exactly 77 words The Great Horror will speak. 150 * 2 is 300 which is not even close to 77. So, I went with $77 and added $23 to it because there's a quite likely chance I'm going to have you try and match up your voice with a certain other character's in the same vein as Vegito or Gogeta. So consider the $23 a bit extra for putting you through the trouble.
It's not Cthulhu.
If background information seems sparse for the character, it's because I do not want to spoil anything too much.
Here's what I can tell you: the being craves chaos. It seeks the destruction of all humanity and successfully accomplished this during what would've been our lifetime. It is responsible for something that occurred in 2016. This being was sealed in the Dreamlands by God. As a result, it has been steadily spreading the Dreamland Toxin into all realms from there.
If male: I would recommend looking into characters such as Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, Master Xehanort, Ardyn Izunia, and... Igor from Persona 5... at your own risk.
If female: I would recommend looking into Maleficent, Cloud of Darkness, and Ultimecia.
Damn girl. Nerves of iron, you. I want so much to taste your spirit. |
She owes you this. Enjoy what the urchin has to give. Let her show you what she learned on the street. |
Shall I join you? See the error of my ways, repent and promise to walk the narrow straight? Like my old friend Pedahzur? |
Note: Person 1 has 22 spoken words so I went with $27 as that's a price between guy and Borkslew.
One of two people in a group who are talking. He/She looks suspiciously like the man/women.
I think it's all a scam! |
Priorities, man! They have to keep the facade alive. |
NOTE: There are 48 spoken lines for Person 2. I went with the $53 price because the word count is close to Kryss's.
One of two people in a group talking. He/She looks suspiciously like the man/women.
Look, we are on the verge of change like we've never seen! There's a whole world out there, undiscovered by us. |
Oh come on! Why send an expedition and spend all that-- |
NOTE: The worker has 37 spoken words so I went with a price way lower than the 2 minute price average that still felt right.
A hardworking scientist at Elina's workplace.
I just wanted to shake your hand. You said what no one else would say. If I didn't need this job, I'd walk out, too. |
You want... me on your team? |
NOTE: The supervisor has 39 spoken words, so I went with a price lower than the 2 minute price average that still felt right.
Clarevine's supervisor at the Faraday mining company.
No one seems to know. Found them written on some scrap from a dig. Wrote them down before our haul was confiscated. |
Maybe you'll find something to decode those words. |
