Under the Electric Stars Season 2

Under the Electric Stars Season 2

Project Overview

Under the Electric Stars is a cyberpunk podcast from Aster Podcasting Network. After a nuclear war left Metropolis West one of the last cities standing, Caine Reyes, the fastest driver in it, gets swept up in the rising revolution.

These characters listed below are important to the new season and while they are side characters as compared to the original Zero Zero crew, they are main characters as far as the narrative of Season 2 and beyond, though will probably not feature as heavily as the original Zero Zero cast.

Like other productions from Aster Podcasting Network, casting priority is given to those who have the same identity as the characters, as we want to represent those identities with respect. If you do not extend that same respect towards our work and towards actors of color, disabled actors, and LGBTQ+ actors, you will be blacklisted from auditioning for any other Aster Podcasting Network productions. Auditions are open to those who are age 18 and up. No previous experience is necessary, though if desired, along with auditions, a voice acting reel may be submitted. Record with the setup you intend to use if casted.

Auditions close January 29th, 2021.

Updates: Thank you to everyone who auditioned for this project--I cast officially and contacted anyone who got the role. Please feel free to keep up with updates on this project @utes_podcast or by joining our Discord. If you indicated interest in bit parts or casting calls from us in the future and attached your Discord, please expect a notification from us.

Indigenous (Wintu) and Mexican trans woman (she/her) in her mid-forties. She lives in and runs the outpost Cair Mallplex, an abandoned mall that became the home of people displaced by the rapid growth of Metropolis West. Before her life in Cair Mallplex, she was drafted into the last battalion of the Space Militia, then became a firefighter. Because of her past in the careers, she prefers to resolve conflict through empathy. She considers herself a caretaker to the people that she has made a home with and intends on keeping them safe, no matter what.

  • (confidently) Oh, I’m sure they won’t be bothering us any time soon. I’m the one who keeps us safe, after all.

  • (a little shocked) You thought they disappeared, huh? Guess that tells you what they teach in the Metropolis.

  • I guess in some ways, I’m still a little regretful. Isn’t that kind of funny?

Nonbinary person (Any pronouns, but usually uses ey/em/eirs or buns/bunself) in eir mid-twenties. Ey were previously an influencer in Glasshouse who chose to leave after getting sick of the limelight. Ey are bubbly and precocious, but also is concerned with changing things in Metropolis West. Ey are careful with choosing eir words, but sometimes it’s pretty obvious despite eir diplomatic skills that ey thinks ey are always right.

  • (excited) Oh, and who are our new friends over here? What a delight to meet you all!

  • (frustrated but still smiling) Listen, buddy, I don’t think that’s the best idea. (beat) I mean it, listen to me.

  • (cheerfully) Tari de Whitte’s the name, but you can call me Bunnie! Maybe you’ve heard of me. Maybe you haven’t! I actually might prefer it if you haven’t.

Trans man (he/him) in his mid-thirties. He was a farmer near Cair Mallplex, but the fires in the area wiped out his previous home, forcing him to move into Cair Mallplex with his husband. Taking care of his baby and husband have both been particularly important to him and he can sometimes be a little overprotective, but he’s generally very laid-back and always generous.

  • (good-natured) Whew, it can be a little hard to breathe in there. How are you two holding up?

  • (fatherly) Hey, hey, don’t you two start arguing with each other now! If you do, we’re cutting our scavenge trip short.

  • (patience finally wearing thin) Alright, folks, it’s over. Come on, pack up, I’m not waiting around for you anymore.

Hawaiian man (he/him, ze/zim) in his late twenties. Radio host for The Moondog Transmission. He is a well-seasoned radio host and a little snappy for it—underneath his grumpiness is a veritable heart of gold… if only he’d show it to anyone but Ava. He is generally hopeful for things to change, though he tries to act more like a pessimist to seem cooler.

  • (grumpy) Well, you’re the one that dragged me out here. And it’s flooding. So it’s wet. You could have at least told me to bring better shoes.

  • (trying not to laugh) Sure, we’ll just take all of this back on our bikes. Totally possible for us to do that.

  • (radio voice) This is The Moondog Transmission coming at you live. I’m Kaleo Hale. Tonight, we’re taking calls from around the Metropolis about the recent uptick in graffiti. Ava, how’s our first caller?

Persian woman (she/her) in her mid-twenties. Radio host for The Moondog Transmission. She is a bit of a rookie still in comparison to her partner. She’s cheerful and easily excitable, but she’s got quite the nose for investigation. Now if she could just calm down long enough to tell you about it… She’s very interested in pre-Incendian information and hunts it down with a passion, which a lot of people find unusual. She could care less about how people perceive her.

  • (peppy) It was either get you out of bed on time or spend another 20 minutes having you find your shoes, and then it would be 6:20 a.m. before we headed out!

  • (trying to convince someone) If you lift with your legs and I help you with corners, we could too get it out of here.

  • (radio voice) I’m Ava Jafari of The Moondog Transmission with my co-host, Kaleo Hale. We’re discussing a lot of topics tonight, but I’ll give you the lowdown on weather first—looking to be a nice balmy night with high winds in the south of the Metropolis. What have we got happening tonight, Kaleo?
