The Unbroken Crown
Project Overview
The Unbroken Crown
Period Fantasy series; Audio Drama
Plot: The Kingdom finds itself in a civil war between those who believe King Rowan to be the true king and those who believe Cian (pronounced Keen) to be the true king. For whomever is the true and rightful ruler of the throne is bound to the land by bond and blood- they will bring times of plenty to the war torn realm. Everyone will pay a cost for their greed...
Beside him King Rowan keeps a woman. A witch of ‘immeasurable power’ whom he stole from her people. She sees and knows, but says very little. Her words, even the mundane, drip with power.
Sitting on his ‘stolen throne’ beside Cian is also a woman, a beauty of such grace that she’s likened to the very Gods above. She is a quiet woman, and timid in her support of what her betrothed is doing to the land she’s come to love.
Both men seek the same thing- the throne of Ustral (Oo-strahl) and neither will stop until the rightful king sits upon the throne. The problem that lies is this- which man is the rightful wearer of the Unbroken Crown?
Call ends March 31, 2020
As of right now all roles are unpaid- however I am hoping to have my finances all setup and around before the production is fully finished and out; which would allow for payment to the larger roles.

Hey y'all! So, I have had a lot of interest in this project both on here and off of CCC and I am SO HAPPY about that! I have already begun the process of listening to and narrowing down the auditions HOWEVER- I realized that I left a GLARING plot hole in the storyline and had to do a rewrite that added a few tertiary characters to the story. So- I will be extending the deadline for ALL AUDITIONS until March 31 while I add the rest of the roles and go through the auditions. I will still be picking some roles now, as is, and those roles will update as "filled" if/when I find the appropriate voice should I already have someone who will fill the role correctly. I am sorry about this secondary push back but I can't start the project until at minimum one of the new roles is filled and want to ensure that I have everything finished as we roll into the next step of this process. Thank you to everyone who has already auditioned and I will admit so many of you knocked it out of the park! Expect, please, to be contacted personally by me about this regarding roles as I go into picking them. YOU MAY BE CONTACTED ABOUT A ROLE YOU DIDN'T AUDITION FOR- though you are obviously under no obligation to take the role, if I feel that your voice would fit a second role then I may contact you about said role. Thank you all for your patience with me (this is my first time and it's a LOT more work due to the amount of responses that I did not anticipate).

Deadline for Auditions pushed back!
Due to a personal setback with my health I've decided to push back the audition deadline to February 29, 2020! I will be listening to all auditions as they come in and making comments/suggestions as required. Thank you all!
Having grown up safely behind castle walls Rowan tends to be slightly arrogant and also mildly naive. He knows of the world, training to become a knight and a ruler ensured that he was among his people and his realm in the later years of his upbringing. Headstrong and confident to a fault, he can come off as brash and blunt- and not a little bit abrasive. He is kind, though, underneath it all; he only wants what’s best for his people.
(harsh, clipped) And if I hear another word from your mouth that is neither informing me of my return to my throne nor celebrating the death of my enemy I will carve your tongue from your throat myself!
(soft, caring, almost regret) For one who sees so much you seem to know little. Such gifts must be quite a burden on an untried heart.
Ruthless, angry, unstoppable. Cian was raised in exile on the outer edges of Ustral. Cian grew into manhood on the stories of his mother- of her time in the palace, of her place next to the king, of her banishment for a single night’s dalliance when the king himself held many mistresses. Of his true claim to the throne. His mind is keen, a fortress of logistics that has won him acclaim among the people in times of war- something he uses to his advantage as he presses his campaign to the capitol city and the palace within its walls.
(begin in a normal speaking tone, subtly change to end malicious) Now, as to why I choose to destroy this land instead of keeping it whole and healthy for future use… well, now this is a two-fold strategy. The easiest and first of the two is that I require the people of this land to see their ‘king’ for what he truly is; false, incompetent, and unworthy of the throne he stole. Secondly, through fire and death come the greatest of rebirths, and as the ashes clear the soil shall be both anew and fertile.
A Witch of great power, she is quite aloof with her speech; often referring to Rowan as “a king” or “a man.” She doesn’t often address people using their names, and rarely looks into their eyes. The Witch speaks many languages and can often be seen gently whispering to babbling brooks or dripping water, something that unsettles those around her. She’s benevolent, soft spoken, and lacks any real sense of the darker range of emotions such as hatred or jealousy. Life, as she states, ‘just is’ and she ‘just belongs to the flow of it.’
(aloof but also mildly sassy, playful) A king shan’t be able to take what his enemies will have already removed, your highness.
(soft, slightly malevolent towards the end, almost angry but not quite) Water is quite unlike mortals… like people. Water flows, water changes, water breaks down all obstacles in its path… Then again- perhaps water and mortals are more alike than I thought.
Docile well-bred daughter of one of the great houses of Ustral, her father married her to Cian under the guise that she would be queen when Cian rose to power. She’s not a lover of violence, nearly completely pacifist in her ideals. Her beauty, however, is well spoken of to the point that even the unmarried Rowan had been tempted to force her father to allow their marriage, though he did not. Her speech is simple though her mind is anything but- always thinking, always scheming for the greater good at the lowest expense to others. She wants nothing more than a reunited realm and a peaceful world in which to raise her hopeful family.
(soft spoken and questioning) No, my lord. Only… in that… the destruction of this land… Is it not more taxing to restore it once you’ve taken down the false king? Rebuilding burnt homes, restoring the farmland to use… and one surely cannot bring back the dead…
(fearful, end confident and strong) I have hidden in the shadows of your legacy long enough, there is little more you can strip from me that you’ve not already taken. Do your worst, but remember these deeds will haunt you the rest of your days!
Knight of King Rowan’s court, and an old friend of the king when they were young. He is of common blood but brought up within the palace courts, wherein he was given a squireship and eventually knighted for his deeds to the realm. Rowan outdid his father’s knighting by placing the common-born Tegual in the seat of Commander for the King’s Forces- the largest portion of the standing military of Ustral. He has a mildly jovial nature, doesn’t always read situations correctly for the moment. Serious but also comedic.
(Joking, though inappropriate for the moment) Sure is a jolly lot in life, isn’t it? Beautiful women, grand tales of my adventures, and all of the death a single man can stomach… Shoulda listened to me mam, she set me straight enough when I was young.
(serious, cynical) I joke to hide what I cannot fathom. You fathom what I cannot joke about. How interesting our paths in life have become, and how terrifying they continue to be.
All knowing and all telling, this disembodied voice brings the listeners in (as there is no role for the Listener to play in this one) and drives the story forward in places where the dialogue may be overly heavy with exposition- provides explanations for things when recapping what happened in previous episodes.
(Nostalgic, as if telling a story long past) The hearts of mortal men are fickle things, always looking to the best horizon- always searching for the next treasure. They can’t help it, can they? That lust for power… and where there is power there is greed, and where greed resides so too does destruction. This is what happened to the people of Ustral. Swept up in the tides of greed and darkness, so many would lose their light to a fight not their own…
Finn/Lucia Caffrey is another orphan that Cian knew in growing up during his exile. They became fast friends, and quite close. Caffrey is willing to follow Cian to the very ends of the earth should that be what it takes. They follow, most, orders unquestioningly and have killed many for Cian without remorse or second thought. They try to be Cian's conscience when his wife fails to be.
(Questioning, careful) My Lord, is this truly all necessary? These are but simple farmers, trappers... These villages have held nothing of value to us beyond a warm bed for a time... What can you truly gain from burning the countryside to the ground?!
(Commanding, resolve faltering towards end) Lord Cian was clear! We are here to the end, and that end is the death of Rowan Mordelet (more-d-leh)- the false king. We cannot stop now, not when we're so close to victory...
A Lord in Cian’s court, though originally merely a Barony under the rule of Rowan his family and titles have risen through the ranks to Marquess. His land holdings have nearly tripled to include four other Barony houses that refused to stand with the “rightful King” and were deposed upon Cian’s ascension to the throne through his coup. He is a conniving man, and when not in public looks down on both Finn/Lucia Caffrey and Cian for being “low-born commoners.”
(panicked) And you would die in those flames, Caffrey. Are you blind?! There’s magic at work here, else wise those flames would not climb so high, so quickly, or so blue! I knew you were a simple commoner but your inability to recognize death when it stares you in the face is quite astounding!
(snide, calculating) The glory of old is a fine goal, sire, but would it not be better to seize the power you’ve attained and use to a much greater benefit? You hold Ustral in the palm of your hand, would it not be more fitting to mold and shape a new legacy for the people of Ustral?
The only woman to head a peerage house since her husband’s untimely passing. She is a Duchess and of the oldest family in the realm of Ustral, tracing their history back to the old times before reconstruction and revolution brought Ustral together as a whole country. Cian knows he cannot supplant such an old family, so he entreats with her upon ascending to the throne; though her allegiances are quite uncertain to the end.
(lofty) How quaint. First you seek a throne that was never meant for you and now you’ve come to whisper sweet nothings into my ear while you placate the masses to avoid them supplanting you like the king before you. Smart, I should say, though I wont.
(chiding, but motherly) You had warnings, Rowan. The very stars shouted to you what was on the horizon and yet you did nothing. You called the Void to you through your witch and still ignored the signs. While I cannot agree with your utter stupidity… I will offer my advice.
Hail the true king!
Say something you think appropriate (imagine a soldier NPC in a game like Skyrim)
Lieutenant Peadair (pad-ar) is Caffrey's second in command. They are matter-of-fact and well trained, having grown up in a military family. Peadair is the only one within their family to defect from Rowan to Cian, and this hesitancy comes through when things become a conflict of their loyalty to their chosen King and their blood family. Peadair has no true machinations or ambitions to move further up the ladder than they already are- wanting only to blend into the rank and file of the general military and be away from the politics of coups and Kings.
Distinct things about Peadair:
They are only comfortable with Caffrey and their underlings.
They follow a strict code of honor and find themselves at odds with it for betraying their loyalist family.
Peadair is quite religious- near to zealotry levels; this leads them to be quite superstitious.
(Matter of fact, military reporting style) It appears the bulk of the fires were set below the palace, in the merchant districts and among the commoner homes throughout the city. The palace itself appears relatively unharmed. However… There is enough damage that our squads will dance through the hells trying to search and sift through it all on our own.
(out of breath, almost hesitant) I hate to... I have to have to ask you to do this but... His majesty requires you in the palace gardens. Your... expertise... is required to question the few remaining souls we found alive in the rubble.
