The Mage Pocket: Apprentice Alliance (Full-Cast Audiobook 2025)

The Mage Pocket: Apprentice Alliance (Full-Cast Audiobook 2025)

Project Overview

Hi there! I’m Millie Florence, award-winning author of middle grade books such as Honey Butter, Beyond Mulberry Glen, and The Balter of Ashton Harper.

What is The Mage Pocket?

The Mage Pocket Trilogy is a three-book middle grade fantasy adventure series I will be indie-publishing over the next three to four years. All three books are outlined, and book one, Apprentice Alliance, is available to buy now on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and anywhere online books are sold. It has been professionally edited, proofread, illustrated, and formatted. The series targets tween readers who are fans of action, mystery, and fantasy. I like to describe the story as Avatar: The Last Airbender meets The Mysterious Benedict Society.

My plan is to create a full-cast audiobook for book one and possibly future books as well, depending on the success of the first. Once finished, the audiobook will be available for purchase through platforms such as Audible, and the first few chapters will be released for free on YouTube. I’m a lifelong theater kid and have some experience narrating audiobooks, so all narration outside of dialogue will be done by me.

What are you looking for?

I’m looking for passionate voice actors to bring individual characters to life!

  • When auditioning, please format auditions ABCABC.

  • Feel free to audition for more than one role at once.

  • I also welcome all different accents—these characters come from all over their fantasy world, so use whatever accent you think would fit them best. I'll be narrating in an American accent.

  • If you are cast, communication will be primarily through email and the Mage Pocket Discord server.

  • Please submit clean recordings on high-quality mics. Low-quality audio or excessive background noise will result in an immediate pass.

About the Story

Sorrel is the unruly daughter of the heads of the Mage Council, protectors of the secret realm of the Mage Pocket, where libraries float through the sky, cats turn invisible, and sunlight is magic.

Theo is the reluctant apprentice of the Dark Mage, the terror of the Mage Pocket, waiting in the shadows for her chance to act.

When her parents die in a house fire, Sorrel refuses to believe it’s an accident. Theo knows it’s not, because he saw his mentor do it. He helped his mentor do it. He’s still haunted by the smell of smoke.

Sorrel is bent on finding answers, but that will require learning some complex magic. Theo is trying to break his magical apprenticeship contract, but that will require a lot of research.

Together, they form an unlikely alliance—Theo will teach Sorrel to Cast, Sorrel will help him research. But both are keeping secrets, and neither one knows the other’s real identity. As their friendship grows, so do the consequences of discovering the truth.

  • Closing Auditions

Due to the incredibly overwhelming number of submissions, I've decided to close auditions early. Guys... I'm not even sure how I'm going to get through 1,300+ auditions. XD Thank you so much to everyone who submitted!! I'll be working through all the auditions over the next few weeks to cast the roles, and vlogging the process for my YouTube channel if you want to stay updated: https://www.youtube.com/@MillieFlorenceAuthor

Once again, thank you guys so much! I'm so excited to bring the world of The Mage Pocket to life!

  • Deadline Change

Due to the overwhelming number of submissions for this project (thank you guys!!) I'm shortening the deadline to September 1st. However, I will not cast any of the roles officially until that time. So you still have time if you want to audition!

1/2 POV protagonists

12-year-old female

The unruly daughter of the heads of the mage council, Sorrel spends most of her time pretending she doesn’t care about the expectations surrounding her. Nope. Not one bit. She’s far too busy playing pranks, losing to her cousin Dasan in chess, and “accidentally” setting things on fire.

That is, until she learns about the death of her parents…

Sorrel is chaotic, loud, passionate, and reckless. She is generally happy, easily angered, and unafraid to show her feelings (even at rather unhelpful times). Although she poses a confident exterior, Sorrel is quite insecure at times, especially in her ability to cast spells, or rather, the lack thereof. She is fiercely loyal towards the people she cares about, fiercely hateful towards her enemies, and uses a slew of creative insults she has proudly made up herself, such as “zooks” or “you absolute doorknob” or “beetle-brain”.

Throughout the book, she faces hardships, growth, and the whole range of emotions.

  • [Frustrated and defensive, escalating into anger.] “I am not, you absolute doorknob! I would be happy to learn it the safe way if you’d actually teach me! Zooks! I don’t know why you’re being this way!”

  • [Triumphant and proud of yourself.] “I blew up a flour shed!”

1/2 POV Protagonists

12-year-old male

At age 7, Theo was apprenticed to The Dark Mage, Maeve Aeron, and all his memories of life before were erased. For the past five years, Theo has lived and trained in the Dark Caverns, with no knowledge of who he was, where he came from before, or even his last name. He has nowhere else to go, so he stays, even though he disagrees with Maeve’s methods at times–never out loud, of course.

Until one fateful night, when the assignment to help kill the heads of the mage council pushes him to his breaking point…

Theo is quiet, calculating, clever, and cautious. He has a natural tendency towards kindness, but that quality is not encouraged by his mentor. He’s very intelligent and is considered a casting prodigy: most children cannot learn to cast spells until age ten at least, but Theo began doing magic at age seven, and without a teacher. He tends to see the world in a very rational, logical way, but he is also is exceptionally good at reading emotions and deducing what people are thinking. He can also lie very convincingly.

Throughout the book, he faces hardships, growth, and the whole range of emotions–but he’s very careful to keep those emotions masked under a steady tone and impassive expression, lest someone try and use them against him.

  • [Caught off guard. Confused, but staying cool.] “I—I don’t think we’re friends. I’m just helping her with casting. It’s an alliance.”

  • [Earnestly encouraging] “That doesn’t mean you’re weak, it means you’re stronger than anyone else because you keep trying even though it doesn’t come naturally to you.”

  • [Smoothly lying and manipulating someone who has power over you. Internally, your heart is pounding. Will you get away with this?] “I would test them. As you said, trust is earned. I would give them an opportunity to earn it, or else prove that they have already lost it.”

Main antagonist

The Dark Mage herself. Maeve is out for revenge against those who killed her parents, and justice for the mages persecuted in the Outside. Her motivations are human and complex, but she’s willing to say and do almost anything to accomplish her goals. Maeve is very very good at lying and manipulation. She’s learned to read people, pick apart their weaknesses and what they care about, then use that to her advantage.

Her voice is described as dark, smooth, controlled, and deep.

  • [You’re about to complete the ultimate act of revenge, something you’ve dreamed about for years. Justice is finally yours, and anger and pain break through your usually emotionless facade.] “This is for my father. For the childhood I lost. Burn. As you deserve.”

Good-natured and enthusiastic, Dasan is here to have a good time and tease his younger cousin. But when things start to get serious, he finds himself in the position of  “the responsible one”, a title he is not used to and struggles to take on. He's an older brother figure, learning how to deal with younger kids looking up to him.
