The First Event | Horror Survival Game

Project Overview

During a time of rising political tension, America and Russia are entering into an arms race to assert their authority over one another. In order to compete with Russia’s advances in heavy artillery, which include nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missiles, America’s military decides to develop a super-mutagen to defeat an army on a wide scale, using biological warfare. In a remote location in upstate New York, three scientists are working on an advanced super-mutagen capable of incapacitating ground soldiers using an airborne solution. In small doses, this solution temporarily paralyzes an individual for up to 48 hours, rendering them unable to move. Furthermore, it paralyzes the nervous system and gives the person exposed short-term amnesia. Prolonged exposure to this solution is lethal as it further penetrates the blood-brain barrier and suppresses electrical activity. In addition to the higher-level cortical areas, the autonomic center responsible for controlling the heartbeat and the respiratory system also ceases to function.

However, when the first trial is run on participants on death row,  it becomes apparent that something with the experiment has gone horribly wrong. A distress signal is sent out to the department overseeing the project, and a small faction of the U.S. military is sent to investigate. What they find when they arrive at the work facility is worse than any nightmare imaginable - and it's only the beginning.

"The First Event" is a first-person shooter horror survival game. During game play, players are members of the small U.S. military faction, using weapons, tactical skills, and strategy to defeat the biologically manufactured undead in several rounds, known as The First Event, The Second Event, The Third Event, The Fourth Event, and The Fifth Event.  "The First Event" is currently pre-alpha, and the description video does not reflect the final product. "The First Event" is scheduled to be released in mid 2019.

CASTING CALL INFORMATION

Who is creating "The First Event?"

The first event is being created by Taylor Ripke, a University lecturer with a Master's degree in Computer Science and a large background in game development, and Megan Taylor (me), a voice actress/writer. I also serve as the audio director for the project, hence my casting call! "The First Event" is a passion project, and is currently being funded through our own investments. However, "The First Event" does intend to eventually be featured on Kickstarter, and is regarding as a priority and a professional project. If you are interested in contributing your talents to "The First Event" beyond auditioning for voice acting, feel free to message me on CCC.

What has been finished so far?

Development of Round 1 of "The First Event" is nearing completion, with scripts being sent out to the cast 1-2 weeks after the casting call deadline. A beta version of the game will be available within 1-2 months.

What kind of lines can I expect if I am cast?

Dialogue will include exclamations ("watch out!"), commands ("follow orders"), effort noises, and cut-scene dialogue.

What is the technical requirement for auditioning?

Bottom line: we are looking for quality recordings. We aren't requiring any specific equipment; if you can produce a good sound from the microphone you have, then feel free to audition. Please remove background noise to the best of your ability. MP3 or .WAV recordings strongly preferred.

What are the guidelines for auditioning?

2-3 takes per line preferred. However, there are some lines that are very short, so if you feel that you can nail the line on the first try, go ahead. You may audition for as many roles as you want.

Are these paid roles?

Yes! Since we are working with the money from our own investments, the standard rate we are offering is $1/line, for now. Of course, depending on the work load for some roles, this rate may vary. A more comprehensive overview of rates can be discussed after casting has been completed.

Can I audition for a role is my voice doesn't fit the description?

Of course! If you feel that you can give a stellar performance with a different voice, we encourage you to audition. The descriptions are mostly suggestions, and we aren't set on any particular voice for any particular character. (Besides the zombies...). On another note, some roles have a specified race for the character; while you may  audition for these roles if your race does not align with the description,  selecting a diverse cast as authentic representation for our diverse roles is a priority.

Will there be any more roles available in the future?

Yes. As development of the game progresses, we will be requiring more voice actors in the future.

Any questions?

You can message me here on CCC, DM me on Twitter (@MeganTaylorVA), or email me at megantaylorva(at)gmail(dot)com

***Disclaimer: Any photo used in the description of the character is merely a placeholder to give you a very basic idea of the character. Characters are still in development, and voice actors will get a complete look at their character once they are sent the script.

Latest Updates

  • Zombie Auditions

Hey everyone! I'm astounded with the response this casting call has already received! Thank you all so much! Just a quick update: you might have noticed that 4 of the zombies roles have been closed. To make it a little easier for everyone auditioning, there is only one zombie role now, and we will choose the 5 voice actors from that pool. If you auditioned for a zombie role that has been closed, FEAR NOT! You don't need to audition again - I have saved your audition file. So, you are still in the running for the role :) Thank you!
