[CLOSED - Currently Messaging Chosen Talents] Anime Convention Cosplay Contest Performance - Audio

[CLOSED - Currently Messaging Chosen Talents] Anime Convention Cosplay Contest Performance - Audio

Project Overview

We are looking for voice actors and a composer for the audio backing of our 3 minute cosplay contest skit (for a mid-November anime convention).

Timeline

*Oct 10th: Application Deadline

*Oct 12th: Selected applicants will be contacted by this date and provided with their script/info.

*Oct 17th: We would prefer if lines were delivered by this date (in time for the contest's application), but understand if it's not possible/you are delayed. The firm date for recording delivery is by October 28th, though.

*Nov 18th: If our skit application is accepted, we will be performing on this day. Live-streams of the event are not available, but a few audience members tend to record the contest and upload to YouTube after. We can message a link to you once it is uploaded, if requested.

Specifications

-Audio quality provided (during both applications and for the final recordings if selected) should be crisp with very little to no background noise. The final video/audio will be blasted out of speakers within a 30,000 square foot carpeted exhibition hall, so it will have to be clear as otherwise the audience may have difficulty understanding the words spoken. We would prefer WAV files, but MP3s are also fine.

-We would appreciate if you included your discord name and tag in your application for ease of communication, but doing so through this website's messaging system is acceptable.

-To Voice-Actors:

*There will be no music or lip-flaps that you have to directly match, so there is leeway in your pacing/delivery. It's a comedy skit, so however you think it will sound funniest will be best!

*All of the roles should be above-average in energy/how they're emoted (in hopes of exciting the audience and making them laugh).

-To Composer:

*We are looking for background music for a skit that will be a maximum of 3 minutes long. The music doesn't have to be particularly intricate, as there will be voice acting placed on top of it for the majority of the time. There will be a couple of sections that will have differing vibes (for lack of a better word), all of which we are hoping to carry Chinese musical inspiration. The general timing of the skit is planned out with some leeway; further info is provided in the "Musician" talent description.

Payment

Payments will be made through PayPal or Venmo upon delivery of lines/music. If you would feel more comfortable with a deposit/partial payment upfront, that can be discussed.

Notes

This project is being created before the end of the application period for the chosen cosplay contest. We are planning to record everything ahead of time, so regardless of if we are selected to perform or not, you will be paid.

If we are selected to perform, please note that because this project is for a convention cosplay competition we will be unable to announce selected voice actors’/composer's names to the general public during the event itself. Should the contest be recorded and published to YouTube (as has happened every past year it has occurred), we will be more than happy to leave a comment on the uploaded video mentioning the voice actors and composer that made our skit possible.

Thank you everyone! After multiple rounds of voting and looong voice-chat discussions... we have selected our final voice actors and composer! We appreciate everyone who submitted to be a part of our project. It was certainly a difficult decision choosing just one person for each role out of over 90 applications... wow!

We will be assigning roles through this website and messaging the chosen voice actors/composer with their scripts by the 12th.

Voice Actor
Voice Actor
Adult Male Voice - Shen Yuan
closed
Paid: Flat Rate 15 USD
Role assigned to: Mickey Jo

We are looking for an adult male voice that is good at comedic expression.

The lines will include a couple of Chinese names (to which we can provide videos and guidance on their proper pronunciations), but will be in English otherwise.

This role will be approx. 170 words.

Here is a video of the character in the TV adaptation for an idea as to the sort of pacing/expression we are looking for:

Voice Actor
Adult Male Voice - Adult Luo Binghe

Paid: Flat Rate 10 USD
Role assigned to: Tim Winters

We are looking for a lower male voice (semi-gravely is preferred but not required). This role is that of a demonic emperor, so if you think you can make half the audience shake with fear and the other half fall in love as your voice reverberates around them? Perfect.

This role will be approx. 100 words.

Paid: Flat Rate 5 USD
Role assigned to: R00dio

We are looking for a cutesy tween/teen girl voice, one that would be considered somewhat high-pitched.

This role is approx. 20 words (of which 3 to 5 will be the Chinese word "shizun". We can provide video references/guidance on the pronunciation if requested.)

  • Shizun! Look at the new sword form I learned! (*excited*)

  • Hmph, I don't knoo~oow (*pouting/whining*)

Teen Boy Voice - Young Luo Binghe

Paid: Flat Rate 7 USD
Role assigned to: Peter

We are looking for a tween/teen boy voice. His voice should be optimistic/hopeful and average to slightly higher pitched.

This role is approx. 30 words

The lines will use the Chinese word "shizun" a few times. Here is a video from the TV adaptation of the character saying it for the general pronunciation and for an idea as to the childlike/hopeful feeling his voice should give off: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCTA_p34xj4

  • Shizun, look! I learned it too! (*excited*)

  • Oh, do you really think so? (*threateningly / lower*)

  • I'm sorry... I'll do better. (*sad / dissapointed*)

Background Music

Paid: Flat Rate 45 USD
Role assigned to: TheMNMusic

We are looking for someone to create background music for our skit. It doesn't have to be particularly intricate (in fact it would likely be better simple/plain considering that it will be covered for the majority of the time by voice acting), but we are hoping to add a level of polish/professionalism to the skit through music.

We will be looking for background music that spans from 160 to 180 seconds (3 minutes). All of the music we’d like to be Chinese inspired as that is the skit's setting and origin of the source material (this inspiration doesn't have to be particularly strong, doing something like using a couple traditionally Chinese instruments would be enough to sell the idea).

-------

The tone of the music would have 4 stages with somewhat specific but up to interpretation bridges/transitions between:

  1. The first 35 seconds would be dramatic and low-toned (imagine as if Firelord Ozai from Avatar the Last Airbender wanted to have musicians play background music for him as he threatened visitors). It would have a sudden cut-off or final thump at the end.

1.5 There would be silence for the next 10 seconds, then a short 2 second transitional sound that leads into the next section (up to interpretation, preferably something vaguely sci-fi/modern. The skit is based off of an isekai so this is the “woops you died off you get transported to a fantasy realm” part)

  1. The second musical part is the longest at 1 minute and 30 seconds. This part would be comedic and upbeat yet still a bit soft/light (image: light plink plunks on a stringed instrument vs loud circus-like kazoos). It would also have a sudden cut-off at the very end, in a place that is uncomfortable/sounds unexpected.

  1. After 2-3 seconds of tense silence, the final musical part would begin. Taking the previous music (#3) and making it slower/in a minor key/etc would work well, but you're the expert so however you'd like to represent the feeling would work. This would last for 15 seconds, then end on a long held-out tense note that lasts about 3-4 seconds before stopping.

The music would be what the voice acting clips are placed onto, so there is some leeway in timing to fit your vision. Each of these parts can be extended by a bit, but the max time allowed for the competition is 3 minutes flat so that would be the absolute limit.

  • *Say something you think would fit*
