Sonic and the Tales of Terror Audio Drama

Sonic and the Tales of Terror Audio Drama

Project Overview

Welcome to the Sonic and the Tales of Terror Audio Drama auditions! This is where you can audition for roles that connect to everyone's favorite speedy blue hedgehog. For those unfamiliar, Sonic and the Tales of Terror is a book written by Kiel Phegley. It's a collection of three horror-themed stories garnered towards children around the ages of 8-11. These stories include:

-Night of the Unliving

-Spook Forest

-Hunt of the Werehog

I thought it would be a cute idea to adapt these stories into an audio drama format because it can feel like you're reading a spooky campfire story! It'll be my first outing in the realm of audio dramas, so that will be fun! I have some of the cast already, I'm even voicing a few characters myself. Most of the characters I need voices for are characters that were made up for the stories they are in.

  • Need People To Audition For a Certain Character

I'm really happy with the number of auditions I've been receiving for the past couple of weeks, and I want to thank everyone who's been auditioning. Although, one role has not been auditioned for, and that's Dr. Eggman. I really need people to audition for him, I've had this project stuck in casting hell for nearly a year and I really want to get started on this. So it would really help if I could get some recordings for Eggman. Thank you for listening!

Big the Cat is a laid-back kind of character. He cares about his friends and doesn't want to see them hurt, especially Froggy. He's also very kind and gentle, but he's also not the smartest guy in the group. For this story specifically, Big becomes an alien zombie after he touches sentient alien slime from a meteorite. As a zombie, he has a droning, monotone voice you'd hear in a typical zombie movie.

The only line for auditions where you have to act like a zombie is the second line, the remaining lines are normal Big lines you'd probably hear in a Sonic game or cartoon.

  •  "Maybe it just wants to make friends."

  • "To understand us, all you… have to do… is submit."

  • "You will make a full recovery. All it will take is time and patience."

Dr. Eggman is the main villain of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. He's rude, pompous, arrogant, and narcissistic. But, he can be a bit of a goofball. He's the type of person who likes to talk all high and mighty. For this role, I'm looking for more of a Mike Pollock type of voice, he doesn't really do anything that evil in the story to warrant a threatening voice like Deem Bristow. He also isn't in the story for that long.

  • "What brilliant luck! I had hoped to strip this forest of its trees in secret so I could build a new robot factory. But I never dreamed I'd be able to bury you in the process!"

  • "Talk is cheap, hedgehog! Even you can't defeat an entire forest!"

Cream the Rabbit is a polite, cheerful, and friendly little girl who adores her friends. Her best friend is a little Chao that accompanies her named Cheese. She tends to be timid but she is willing to help her friends when they need it. Much like Big, Cream throughout the first story will be a zombie, so she'll mainly talk in a monotone sort of voice. The only audition lines where you have to sound monotone are the second and third lines.

  •  "Oh, my poor Cheese!"

  • "We are building the spear."

  • "We will send the signal home and call the great meteor here."

This role I'm going to need multiple actors for. The first story requires a mob of zombie townsfolk that drone around the town infecting anyone they come into eye contact with. Literally the only thing you have to say for this role is the word "Submit". Also, the story says that some of them scream in terror while they watch everything that's happening around them, so just act terrified and zombie-like once your role has become one.

  • "Submit. Submiiiiiiiit."

Ghost Queen

This is a made-up character for the story, "Spook Forest". She is the queen to a tribe of ghosts living underground within an old forest. The forest has seen destruction, which threatens the queen's and her subjects' afterlives. I imagine her voice sounding very regal and stern. She's angry over the destruction of her forest but is fearful for her and her subjects' fates. I also imagine her being very quiet in her delivery. Yeah, she's angry, but she's calm and collective.

  • "This is not the one we fight."

  • "Not just him.  You have been cutting and chopping this ancient forest for years. Eggman has just accelerated a long, slow, inevitable end."

These ghosts are subjects to the Ghost Queen. They live alongside her in an old forest. Throughout most of their screentime, they're angry about their home being destroyed, but the final line is of one who is being thankful. I imagine these ghosts sounding like young children, because the story describes one of them as small and young, at least for a ghost. So, child-like voices would work perfectly for these roles. Also, I would prefer it if they talk like they're whispering. More than one person can audition because I'm going to need more than one actor.

  • "Cutter! Slasher! Ripper!"

  • "The Cutter must be judged! Take it to the queen!"

  • "Thank you. I’ll keep fighting."

This is a woman character from Spagonia who becomes under the influence of Dark Gaia. While possessed, she feels sad, agitated, and anxious. This character only really has like a few lines, so if you can make her sound like what I described she is when possessed, that would be enough. The final line, however, is after Sonic saves her from the influence, so make her sound like she just awoke from a bad dream.

  • "It’s not fair! It’s not fair! Aiiiiie! Can’t anyone do something?!?"

  • "What could you possibly know about it?"

  • "It was so strange. I was out for a pre-dawn run, and I felt this force telling me I was destined to be alone forever… like I was the last person left on the planet."

Narrator

Role assigned to: Liesl Hall

This role is the most important role in the project. The Narrator will be the one who reads off what the characters are doing, what the setting is like, what is happening in the scene, etc. This role is a versatile one. I want to be surprised at what you got! I only require that you at least take this "semi-seriously". I say semi-seriously because while the stories were originally written for children, I don't want it to sound like it's pandering to them or it just sounds like you're reading to a bunch of babies or toddlers. But don't take this too seriously, I don't want a Vincent Price performance here. Just have fun with the role and make it your own. Please keep in mind that since this is a very important role, there are many lengthy scenes you must read, so please be committed to the part.

  • "The smoke of the campfire rose up into the branches of the forest like a ghostly apparition. Sonic the Hedgehog leaned into the popping of the burning logs, lifting his hands to make spidery shadows across his friends’ faces."

  • "The evening became a nightmare in slow motion. Sonic left Tails locked up in the lab and hit the town at top speed, warning anyone and everyone to avoid the sick. But no matter how fast Sonic ran, he was always too late. The people of the city were shambling through the streets. Their heads hung low, and their eyes glowed with sticky green slime. Yet despite their lethargic motions, everyone's strength seemed to have increased tenfold. They tore up street lamps and stop signs and mailboxes. Anything metal was ripped up, crunched together, and carried away by the growing masses."

  • "In a blur, Sonic was gone again, roaming the streets for answers to whatever had happened to his friends. No matter how fast he ran, no answers came. Then it hit him. The slime! The crash site must hold the answers to what was happening. Within seconds, Sonic was back on the outskirts of town and rushing into the quiet glade. What met him there was another friend. Or was it? Big sat still as a stone in the blackened pit that the saucer had dug. While his back was to Sonic, it was clear the large purple cat was staring up at the dented meteorite that still glowed an eerie shade of green."
