Some Stories Only Stop Being Written | A Danganronpa Inspired Video Series

Some Stories Only Stop Being Written | A Danganronpa Inspired Video Series

Project Overview

Sixteen Ultimates wake up trapped in an academy with one rule: get away with murder, and you go free.

Haru Takamine, the quiet Ultimate Botanist, hides in the greenhouse while the bodies pile up. Mizuki Aoyama, the gentle Ultimate Author, follows her there. Mizuki cooks for everyone, comforts the grieving, and remembers every name. She is the one person Haru trusts.

But the killing game is unfolding a little too neatly, like a story someone is writing. And if Mizuki knows how it ends, then she also knows who has to die.

Every story needs an ending. Who gets to write this one?

About the project
The Final Draft is an original psychological mystery / death-game story with a doomed yuri romance. Sixteen students are trapped in an academy, and the gentle girl everyone trusts is secretly the mastermind. I'm turning it into an illustrated video series inspired by Danganronpa and Milgram.

What I need
A stylized animator for simple, atmospheric animation: blinking, breathing, hair movement, slow camera pushes, animated text, and UI screens like Student IDs. No full animation needed.

First project
A short prologue video (about [3 to 5] minutes), made from my script and character art.

Details

  • Unpaid passion project. Full credit in the video and on all project pages.

  • Lead role: [Yes, with room to continue into future episodes]

  • Timeline: flexible, about [X weeks] for the first video

  • Software: whatever you're comfortable with (After Effects, Live2D, CapCut, etc.)

  • Mature themes: violence and psychological manipulation. All characters are original.

To apply
Send a portfolio or reel link, your preferred software, and a short note about your availability.

Since it's unpaid, I'd keep the first project small and clearly scoped, like this 3 to 5 minute prologue. Animators are much more likely to say yes to a defined short project than an open-ended series. Fill in the brackets before posting.

What I need
A video editor to assemble the finished video from character art, backgrounds, voice recordings, music, and on-screen text. You'd handle pacing, cuts, transitions, subtitles, and simple text effects (like the rules announcement and Student ID screens).

First project
A short prologue video (about [3 to 5] minutes). I'll provide the script, storyboard notes, and all assets.

Details

  • Unpaid passion project. Full credit in the video and on all project pages.

  • Lead role: [Yes, with room to continue into future episodes]

  • Timeline: flexible, about [X weeks] for the first video

  • Software: whatever you're comfortable with (Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, After Effects, CapCut, etc.)

  • Mature themes: violence and psychological manipulation. All characters are original.

Nice to have (not required)

  • Experience with stylized text, kinetic typography, or motion graphics

  • Basic audio cleanup and mixing

To apply
Send a portfolio or reel link, your preferred software, and a short note about your availability.

If your animator also handles text effects, you can drop the "nice to have" section. If not, keep it, since the editor can cover that gap. It also helps to say whether you have a storyboard ready, because editors get much more interested when the plan is clear.

What I need
An artist to design and draw the main characters. Each character is an "Ultimate" (Author, Botanist, Genius, Actress, and so on), so the designs should show their talent and personality at a glance.

First project
Start with the 4 main characters: Haru (narrator), Mizuki (the mastermind), Ren, and the mascot, Comma. Each needs a full-body sprite and a few expressions. Later I'd like to add the remaining 12 characters, backgrounds, and UI art such as the Student ID cards.

Details

  • Unpaid passion project. Full credit in the video and on all project pages.

  • Lead role: [Yes, with room to continue into future episodes]

  • Timeline: flexible, about [X weeks] for the first 4 characters

  • Style: I'm open to your take. Think stylized, high-contrast, expressive character art in the spirit of Danganronpa and Milgram.

  • Software: whatever you're comfortable with (Clip Studio, Procreate, Photoshop, etc.)

  • Mature themes: violence and psychological manipulation. All characters are original.

I'll provide
Character descriptions, personality notes, and mood references. The art layers (separate hair, eyes, and mouth) should be delivered in a layered file so the animator can rig them.

To apply
Send a portfolio link, your preferred style and software, and a short note about your availability.

Two things to settle before posting:

  • Ask for layered files. Your animator will need separate layers to make the characters move, so it's worth saying so in the post. Artists can plan for it from the start.

  • Keep the first batch small. Four characters is a manageable ask for unpaid work. Listing all 16 at once may scare people off.

What I need
A musician or composer for a small set of background tracks. No full songs are needed for now. The tracks I'm imagining:

  • Main theme: soft and melancholic, with a hint of something wrong underneath

  • Greenhouse theme: warm, quiet, and gentle (piano, strings, or light ambient textures)

  • Academy / tension theme: cold and uneasy, with a slow build

  • Trial theme (optional): dramatic and urgent, with a Danganronpa-style energy

  • Ending theme (optional): quiet and bittersweet

First project
Two to three short tracks for the prologue video (about [3 to 5] minutes). I'll send the script, a mood board, and reference tracks so you know what I'm after.

Details

  • Unpaid passion project. Full credit in the video and on all project pages.

  • Delivery: finished audio as WAV or MP3, plus loopable versions if possible.

  • Timeline: flexible, about [X weeks]

  • Style: open to your take. Piano, strings, ambient, light electronic, and lo-fi are all welcome.

  • Original music only. Please don't sample or borrow from existing songs.

  • Mature themes: violence and psychological manipulation. All characters are original.

To apply
Send a portfolio or sample tracks, your preferred software, and a short note about your availability.

It helps to attach a couple of reference tracks so applicants understand the mood. Also decide up front who owns the music. If you plan to keep using it across the series, say so in the post so the musician agrees to that from the start.

Haru Takamine, Ultimate Botanist (lead and narrator). She's quiet, observant, and emotionally reserved. She notices small details other people miss, and her narration is soft, introspective, and a little poetic. The story is told through her voice, so she's in nearly every scene.

Voice notes
Gentle and natural, like a private thought. Not performed or dramatic. Shy and a little flustered in dialogue, with an undercurrent of unease that grows as the story goes on.

Voice description:
  • female teen
  • soft
  • She said all of their names. She didn't stumble once. It felt warm. It felt safe.

  • I'm okay.

  • She's kind. She's the kindest person here.

Mizuki Aoyama, Ultimate Author (lead). She's soft-spoken, warm, and nurturing, the person everyone trusts. She remembers every name, comforts people after tragedy, and always seems to know the right thing to say. She's also the hidden mastermind, but that should never be audible on a first listen.

Voice notes
Gentle, calm, and sincere, like a big sister. The warmth has to be real, because she does love these people. The darkness comes through in small things: a pause that's a beat too long, a calm that doesn't crack when it should. Please don't play her as "secretly evil." Play her as kind, with something underneath that only shows on a second listen.

Voice description:
  • female teen
  • I don't know where we are either. But nobody's hurt, and we're not alone. That's something. Let's start with that.

  • You looked like a Sora.

  • Because you're here.

Ren Amamiya, Ultimate Genius (lead). He's brilliant, analytical, blunt, and competitive. He's the first to spot the loophole in the rules and the first to suspect that the kindest person in the room isn't what she seems. He's the intellectual rival of the mastermind, and he believes people can't be reduced to patterns.

Voice notes
Dry, sharp, and controlled. He doesn't shout. His intensity comes from precision, flat delivery, and a slight edge of impatience with people who can't keep up. Underneath that, he cares more than he lets on, especially as the story goes on, so there should be room for him to soften. Please don't play him as cold for the sake of it. He's blunt because he's paying close attention.

Voice description:
  • male teen
  • Dry
  • cold
  • Hold on. Rule 9. You're allowed to change the rules whenever you like?

  • It isn't a loophole if the rulebook lets you rewrite the rulebook. It's a blank check.

  • People aren't equations.

Comma, the mascot and "Headmaster" (lead). A black-and-white plush creature with folded rabbit ears and a quill for a tail, who announces the rules of the killing game. It calls itself the narrator, the headmaster, and your best friend. It's cheerful, theatrical, and delighted by chaos, and it treats murder like a plot point.

Voice notes
Bright, bouncy, and playful, with a big storytelling energy. The unsettling part is that it isn't angry or cruel. It's having the time of its life. It can swing from sing-song to offended in half a line, and it should occasionally go unexpectedly soft and tender, which is worse. Please don't play it as a generic villain. It's a cheerful host who happens to be horrifying. An original take is welcome. I'm not looking for an impression of any existing mascot.

  • I'm a narrator. I'm not allowed to joke about the plot.

  • Ah, you're a sharp one. Of course you'd find the loophole first.

  • Oh, Riku. You're all characters. That's what makes it so beautiful.

Role: Ultimate Actress. Charismatic, adaptable, and almost impossible to read. She can switch between sweet, shy, confident, and vulnerable in half a sentence, and you never quite know which is the real one.

Voice notes: Smooth and controlled. The skill here is range, with seamless shifts in tone. Underneath the performances there should be something quiet and real.

Voice description:
  • female teen
  • Wait, wait, wait. What happens to the punished ones? You said "punished," not "executed."

  • I can be whoever you need me to be. The trick is deciding who I am when nobody's watching.
