Scrapbox (Callbacks)

Project Overview

Your Time is Valuable.

Read what you want, and let's get to it.

Short Version

You're good at what you do. Please indulge us, if you'd be so kind, to read three more lines. We won't be doing any more callbacks after this one, we won't waste your time.

Long Version

When we made this project, we assumed that we wouldn't get more than 20 submissions. 30 total, if we were lucky. We've been fortunate to not only become one of the largest projects on this entire website, but to have a massive number of candidates who we want to pull from.

To be brutally clear, there's four people on the other end of this screen you're staring at that handle casting - myself, Dub, included. We have ripped each other to shreds arguing over who is the best VA for each role. If you're seeing this now, then congratulations. You had at least one person directly (and fucking loudly in most cases, I might add) advocating for you to play the role(s) you auditioned for, and in most everyone's case, it's actually closer to two-or-three out of four of us advocating for you.

We've pulled three additional lines from the pilot script, including at least one shouting line for each character, in an attempt to get the largest spread in vocal range that we can from each of you. If this seems unusual, I apologize, we weren't prepared from the problem of having too many talented people being interested. With these three additional lines, we'll be deciding who to cast for these roles.

In case it isn't clear already, this is for the same roles as before, with the same pay rate of 60 USD per VA. Everything from the public project's description (the one you'd read through to get to this one) is still accurate.

IF YOU WERE NOT DIRECTLY MESSAGED AND REQUESTED FOR A CALLBACK, PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT AN AUDITION TO THIS PROJECT.

AUDITIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED UNLESS YOU WERE EXPLICITLY GIVEN THIS LINK IN A CALLBACK MESSAGE.

Blooper (Callback)

Paid: Flat Rate 60 USD
Role assigned to: Connor Bushoven

Congratulations on your callback! You absolutely earned it! This was a really competitive role, and that surprised us!

Brought in as the only one who understands how to drive a stick shift vehicle, Blooper is the newest employee hired to join Scrapbox and taxi them around from location-to-location, observing each member's role in the group and trying to understand what drives them to work such a depressing and dangerous job without breaking under pressure. Naturally curious and a bit naïve, Blooper is trying to understand the crew and find his place in it, as he watches them all handle struggles that would break a normal person. Imagine being a 19 year old who works with people crazy enough to go towards undetonated explosives.

For motivation with these particular lines:

1.) Sheepishly, as if he's not sure that he's allowed to say it, or that he'll be judged for it.

2.) Annoyed, defensive. Said in response to Tinhead telling him to be quiet.

3.) Loud, shouted frustration.

  • Stop calling me new guy!

Izzy (Callback)

Paid: Flat Rate 60 USD
Role assigned to: Jess Floam

This role was actually consistent in responses, so we're eager to hear how that might change with different lines. One Important Note: We've removed the Hispanic/Latin American accent requirement due to a last-second change of heart.

Vehicle fixer and equipment repairman, Izzy is a spastic individual frequently frustrated with her shitty company gear. A local of the planet, who applied with the corporation to earn a living as her hometown (and therefore, her job prospects) were thoroughly destroyed in the previous war. Loud music normally blasts from the garage where she works and tinkers with anything mechanical, always trying to fix or improve their cheap corporate-issued equipment.

For motivation with these particular lines:

1.) Shouted incredulously, in an "isn't-it-so-obvious" tone.

2.) Stated with extra attitude on the last word. She's very clearly not sorry.

3.) Once again, an annoying lie clearly intended to poke, prod at, and piss off the person she's speaking to.

  • But I could totally build one! What if we get shot at!?

  • Geez, we’re sorry, dad.

  • I am shocked and appalled by your accusation.

Doc (Callback)

Paid: Flat Rate 60 USD
Role assigned to: Navasha

Doc got quite the variety across all accents, and that really caught our attention. I guess we hadn't expected it.

Responsible for the health and [relative] safety of those on the team, Doc is only meant to treat and assist EDEN company personnel or billable UNE forces, but unofficially she helps civilians where possible - and occasionally even combatants, for a fee. Doc sees herself as the second-in-command of Scrapbox, behind Anciano, and thus has to constantly put up with Izzy, Bucket, and Tinhead’s antics whenever Anciano’s away from the team.

For motivation with these particular lines:

1.) Stated like a genuine question, so she can then pick the response that won't get her yelled at.

2.) Shouted loudly at the group when they chastise her for not being a full-blown doctor.

3.) Matter-of-fact statement, as an answer to someone else's question.

  • Which one of those options gets me fired?

  • Oh- fuck all of you, I’m a paramedic! I'm the best you're gonna get in the field!

  • I mean, what the Unies don't know, they can’t arrest us for.

Bucket (Callback)

Paid: Flat Rate 60 USD
Role assigned to: Lev Rodriguez Shivers

Ya'll trying Bucket were on fire. Keep that up, seriously.

Bucket is the team's investigator, in charge of finding possible ERW (Explosive Remnants of War), and navigating the team to new areas and ordnance that need defusing. Given the extremely poor charts mapping some of the air strikes and mines placed during the war, this is no small task. A high-functioning alcoholic, she's frequently struggling on a spectrum between sobriety and intoxication, and is often blunt & brutally honest in speaking as a result (as listed below).

For motivation with these particular lines:

1.) Clearly offended by the question asked, this is her response.

2.) Stated condescendingly to Tinhead.

3.) Shouted loudly, as someone panicking but clearly trying to stay calm. (IFAK pronounced eye-fack)

  • First, I wasn’t drunk, I was FUN. Second, that was back during a very low point in my life.

  • Unless the engine flew off the roof and under the wheel to explode, I think it was a mine.

  • Fuck, get the IFAK! And get those fucking civilians back! This is an active situation!

Tinhead (Callback)

Paid: Flat Rate 60 USD
Role assigned to: MKVDean

Alright, Tinhead peeps, ya'lls responses were genuinely (and by far) the most varied in pitch, tone, gravel, or lack thereof. Whatever you did before, stick to it. It got ya here, and we wanna keep that rolling. You've got this.

Tinhead is a disgruntled combat veteran, specifically former military EOD, now working as a specialist in the private sector. Always wearing the heavy, sweaty bomb suit and a clunky blast helmet, he's the easily-agitated and cynical smartass who directly handles the explosives. It's the most dangerous job, and he reluctantly does it to pay off his debts.

For motivation with these particular lines:

1.) Called out to someone as he slings an object directly at their head.

2.) Stated nonchalantly, as an excuse for being caught behaving like an asshole. Kind of a "DUH" tone.

3.) This is the line where we get to hear Tinhead's emotions betraying his calm exterior. And it hurts him.

Language:

  • Heads up!

  • Aw come on boss, I said ‘heads up.’

  • Listen, kid. Life isn’t a movie. These are mines. Mines suck. It’s just click, boom, that's it. No final thoughts, no regrets, no goodbyes. You’re just… gone.

Anciano (Callback)

Paid: Flat Rate 60 USD
Role assigned to: It's Rick

Anciano dudes, you are few and far between. You nailed it. One Important Thing: Thanks to Riley Martinez for correcting us, the pronunciation for Unies (normally you-knees) would actually be Unies like ooo-knees, due to his thicker Spanish accent. Nice catch!

In charge of the shitshow, Anciano supervises the team and communicates their progress with those at EDEN corporate. An exhausted middle-aged middle manager, handling upper-level politics threatening their work, and controlling the gagglefuck of a team and their shenanigans. His wife took his family and left long ago, making Scrapbox his surrogate family in the years since. In his late 50s, life has worn him down over time.

For motivation with these particular lines:

1.) Just a simple question, asked like you'd normally do when checking in.

2.) Exhausted rage, pissed that this is again a problem that needs correcting.

3.) Stated with a mix of pride for his team's purpose, but somberness that said-purpose is needed at all.

  • Tinhead, how many are left? The Unies wanna know.

  • You bet the drone!? In another poker game!?

  • That’s why we’re here. In the hope that eventually all of this can just be a bad memory.
