RED HOOD: VENGEANCE — SFM Animated Short Film

Genre: Action / Psychological Thriller / Drama
Format: Source Filmmaker (SFM) Animation
Language: English
Fan Project: DC Comics / Batman

About the Project

Red Hood: Vengeance is a dark, character-driven SFM animated short film centred around Jason Todd, the former Robin turned Red Hood, and his final confrontation with the Joker.

After another night of carnage across Gotham City, Batman and his allies discover that Jason Todd has found the Joker before they could.

With the Clown Prince of Crime finally at his mercy, Jason must confront years of trauma, resentment, and the moral code that Batman raised him to follow.

What follows is an intense, psychological confrontation between two characters bound by a violent past.

This short film takes inspiration from Batman: Under the Red Hood, the Batman: Arkham games, and DC Comics.

This is an unofficial fan-made project and is not affiliated with DC Comics or Warner Bros.

Thank you to everyone who auditions! I'm looking forward to hearing your interpretations of these characters.

Batman is Gotham City's legendary protector and the adoptive father of Jason Todd. Having dedicated his life to upholding a strict moral code, Bruce now faces the possibility that his former Robin has crossed the one line he never could.

We're looking for a deep, commanding Batman voice reminiscent of Kevin Conroy or Roger Craig Smith, although original interpretations are welcome.

This role requires two distinct sides of the character: the intimidating, controlled Dark Knight and the exhausted, caring father underneath the cowl.

Audition Lines:

Line 1 — Calm, authoritative

"Go ahead, Jim. Any casualties?"

Line 2 — Concerned, increasingly uneasy

"Barbara? What is it?"

Line 3 — Gentle, paternal, then firm

"I understand, son. I know the pain you've been through... and I'm sorry I couldn't take it away. But you know what I have to do."

The Clown Prince of Crime. Sadistic, manipulative, and completely unpredictable, Joker has spent years tormenting Gotham and the Bat-Family. Now, bound to a chair with a gun pointed at his head, he finds the situation absolutely hilarious.

Joker is the main antagonist of the short film and has the largest speaking role.

We're looking for someone capable of balancing dark comedy, hysterical laughter, vicious mockery, and genuinely unsettling seriousness. Inspirations include Mark Hamill, Troy Baker, and John DiMaggio.

Important: This role requires convincing Joker laughter, shouting, and emotional variation. We want someone who can transition effortlessly from playful joking to chilling seriousness.

Audition Lines:

Line 1 — Playful, mocking, sarcastic

"Gonna drag me back to Arkham? Gift-wrap me for Papa Bats? 'Look, Daddy! I caught the Joker! Am I a good Robin now?' HAH! Oh, that's rich!"

Line 2 — Quiet, cold, deliberately provocative

"Or... are you gonna finally do it... bird boy?"

Line 3 — Loud, completely unhinged, hysterical

"YES! IT'S ALL BEEN A GAME, KID! AND YOU WANNA KNOW THE BEST PART?! I DIDN'T JUST GIVE YOU ONE BAD DAY! I MADE YOUR WHOLE MISERABLE LIFE ONE!"

Casting note: I'd particularly recommend asking Joker applicants to include one improvised or original Joker laugh at the end of their audition.

Barbara Gordon, also known as Oracle, is one of Batman's most trusted allies. Operating behind the scenes, she uses her technical expertise to track Gotham's most dangerous criminals.

After losing Joker's tracking signal, Barbara eventually locates him—only to discover that Jason Todd has already reached him.

Barbara should initially sound professional and focused, but the discovery genuinely frightens her.

We're looking for a natural, expressive voice capable of conveying concern and fear without becoming overly dramatic.

Audition Lines:

Line 1 — Professional, focused

"I've been tracking Joker's movements since the first attack. I lost his signal for a while, but... I managed to pick it up again."

Line 2 — Worried, hesitant

"Bruce... something's wrong."

Line 3 — Quiet, frightened, realising the implications

"It's Jason... He found him before we could."

Commissioner James Gordon is the head of the Gotham City Police Department and one of Batman's closest allies.

Following another night of devastating attacks orchestrated by Joker, Gordon contacts Batman to report the situation.

We're looking for a seasoned, tired police commissioner who has witnessed far too much of Gotham's violence. His voice should carry authority, frustration, and exhaustion.

Think of someone desperately trying to keep a city together while knowing that the Joker is still at large.

Audition Lines:

Line 1 — Professional, urgent

"Batman, you reading me? Joker's been raising hell tonight. Three attacks in less than two hours."

Line 2 — Frustrated, exhausted

"We've got half the damn city in a panic. Emergency services are stretched thin, and we're still pulling people out of the rubble."

Line 3 — Serious, commanding

"Just make sure you find him before he hurts anyone else."

Dick Grayson, the original Robin and current Nightwing, is Jason Todd's adoptive older brother.

He appears as one of the voices inside Jason's mind during a traumatic episode, representing the family connections Jason still struggles with.

We're looking for a confident but compassionate voice. Dick shouldn't sound threatening or judgemental. His words should carry genuine concern for Jason.

Although this is a very small role, the performance contributes to the emotional weight of the flashback sequence.

Audition Lines:

Line 1 — Gentle, reassuring

"Jay, you don't have to do this alone."

Line 2 — Concerned, trying to reach him

"Jason, listen to me. Whatever you're thinking of doing, just talk to me first."

Line 3 — Emotional, sincere

"You're still my brother, Jay. Nothing's ever going to change that."

Tim Drake is the third Robin, having taken up the mantle following Jason Todd's death.

Although Tim never intended to replace Jason, his existence serves as a painful reminder of everything Jason lost.

Tim appears briefly as one of the voices in Jason's mind. His dialogue should sound sincere and slightly vulnerable, not confrontational.

We're looking for a youthful male voice that contrasts with Batman and Nightwing. He should sound intelligent, emotionally aware, and genuinely regretful.

Audition Lines:

Line 1 — Sincere, apologetic

"I never wanted to replace you, Jason."

Line 2 — Defensive, but not aggressive

"I didn't ask for any of this. I just wanted to help Batman."

Line 3 — Soft, emotional

"I know I'll never be you, Jason. And I'm not trying to be."

Lines 2 and 3 are audition-only.

  • "I never wanted to replace you, Jason."

  • "I didn't ask for any of this. I just wanted to help Batman."

  • "I know I'll never be you, Jason. And I'm not trying to be."

Sheila Haywood is Jason Todd's biological mother, whose betrayal ultimately contributed to his death at the hands of Joker.

She appears as a painful memory during Jason's panic attack. Her words represent the betrayal and abandonment Jason experienced shortly before his death.

We're looking for an emotionally convincing performance that conveys fear, regret, and overwhelming guilt.

This role requires subtle but powerful delivery. The character should sound genuinely devastated rather than overly theatrical.

Audition Lines:

Line 1 — Tearful, trembling, remorseful

"I'm sorry, Jason... I'm so sorry."

Line 2 — Frightened, pleading

"Please... I never meant for any of this to happen!"

Line 3 — Broken, filled with guilt

"Jason... if I could take it all back, I would."

Lines 2 and 3 are audition-only.

  • "I'm sorry, Jason... I'm so sorry."
