Psalm 23 Mysteries Season One
Project Overview
Cindy's church is getting ready to celebrate Easter, and Jeremiah's Temple is preparing for Passover when Cindy literally stumbles over the body of an unknown man lying dead in the sanctuary. The church was locked, and a bloody cross necklace on the floor seems to be the only clue. The killer is likely a member of the congregation, but there are hints that similar deaths have happened in the past. Are Cindy and Jeremiah dealing with a serial killer? They have to unravel the clues before Easter Sunday arrives and more people die.

A people pleaser. She a church secretary and has a lot of emotional baggage, particularly due to her mom showing preference to her famous adventurer brother over her) which makes her self-conscious, and risk adverse. She is NOT a thrillseeker at all.
SFX: FEET SHUFFLING, SOUND OF SOMEBODY TRIPPING AND FALLING
DOWN HARD. SOUNDS OF CARDS SCATTERING TO THE FLOOR.
CINDY (In Pain): uuhhh...Ow...dang it! These youth group kids are always leaving things all over the place!
Cindy (concerned for the body lying on the floor): Oh? Sir, are you alright?
Cindy: I took hold of his shoulder and rolled him onto his back preparing to administer first aid. But his eyes were staring right back at me in a vacant stare. A large knife stuck out of his chest. He’s dead... (Blood curdling SCREAM)
He’s a male, 40ish, very ominous. He is a religious zealot who’s also seeking revenge.
(To the listener) (darkly) I stood in the shadows... watching. It wasn’t quite time yet, but I was patient. Just a little longer. I stared intently at the building. The neon sign blazed out, distinguishing the small shop from the buildings on either side. CHECKS CASHED it screamed for all the world to see. A young woman, her frail arms shaking from the effort, pushed open the barred door and staggered outside. Tears streamed down her cheeks. She deserved better, and so did the other wretched examples of humanity that passed through its doors every day. It was time to put an end to it
mid-30s, Detective, sarcastic.
The Vic’s name was Ryan Bellig from Raleigh. I contacted his employer. He was on vacation, due back the end of the week. He never told anyone there what his plans were. I did find out that he was a churchgoer, First Presbyterian.
I thought about that but no one at the church recognized him. I spoke to his pastor at First Presbyterian in Raleigh. He said Ryan used to be a regular attendee, but he hadn’t gone to services in three years. It seems his wife and daughter were murdered, and the killer was never found. After that, he stopped going to church.
His boss said this is his first extended vacation in years. He’s taken the occasional long weekend, but that’s it. I contacted the Raleigh police and asked to see the file on his wife and daughter.
mid-30s, Detective, darker, harder, no-nonsense, carrying a massive secret.
You think whoever killed his family waited three years for him to leave the state, follow him and finish him off?
No family in the area, we’ve ruled out friends. They were all at a church gathering Sunday night when he was killed.
Yeah, you’re going to love this. He didn’t go to First Shepherd, but his friends do.
early 30s, confident, gentle, good sense of humor, very rich but doesn’t act like it
Well, I came outside this morning to walk a little bit, and I happened to glance over here and saw something moving on the ground. I came over, thinking it was somebody’s dog who had gotten loose or something, and I found this guy. He was dressed just like that but his hands were tied behind his back, and he was gagged. I called the police immediately and then I untied and ungagged him.
This doesn’t look good does it?
If he was going to use my tomb, it wouldn’t be here. I’ve always found this place pretty creepy. That’s why several years ago I bought my family a crypt in Fairhaven.
60s, head usher for the church, fatherly
I’m sorry I frightened you. I’m here to do the maintenance on the air conditioning.
I’m checking it before summer gets here to make sure the ducts are clean. I left a message on your answering machine last week.
That’s all right, I figured I would slip in and check out the system while Cindy was at work so I wouldn’t bother her. Speaking of which, is everything okay, Cindy?
40s, Doctor, must be able to compassionate and suspicious
(responding to "She was attacked by a man who hit her on the head", suspicious of the other character) This man wouldn’t be you, would it?
I’d heard rumors. Sorry about that. Most times we see a young woman in here in this kind of condition it’s either a car accident or spousal abuse. Let me just examine her briefly.
We took some films. It appears to be a concussion. She should be okay as long as she wakes up in the next few hours. I’ll schedule an MRI, just to make sure.
upper 50s, homeless man, harmless, sweet
Sorry, Cindy. I came for the service. And that preacher man just droned on so long I got a bit drowsy. And then you were screaming.
You know I don’t mean to frighten folks.
Yeah Miss Cindy, I’m good.
40s, Jewish patriarch of his family, thoughful.
Our neighbors, who are Protestant, have often expressed interest in our religion and our holidays and rituals. My wife and I have discussed inviting them into our home to partake of the second night’s Seder with us.
I have heard that too. It is a first for us, and I was wondering if you had any words of wisdom, Rabbi?
Thank you, Rabbi. That is excellent advice.
upper 50s, arrogant but also can be overwhelmed and a little lost
If you could tell me where the Thursday program is on your computer I can pass that on to Geanie and she can make a couple of changes before we print it out.
Good idea, You... take as much time as you need. We’ll manage here.
Great! I’ll have Geanie call you in a little bit. Let me know if you need anything else.
upper 40s, professor, animated,manic
(screaming) I can’t lose my job! I don’t want to do anything else. I can’t do anything else!
(screaming) I’d never hurt anybody! I haven’t hurt anyone!
(Irritated) Perspective? My career could be over. The only thing I know how to do and you want to talk about perspective?
