[Professional Work] Marion Maloney's Sideways Escapade - VIDEOGAME DEMO

Project Overview

2/22/21 UPDATE: A BIG, BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO AUDITIONED!!!  Again, we are thrilled at the high volume of interest in our project!  Now that the project is closed, our team will be taking all things into consideration for the roles we need to fill!  Keep an eye out for the next few days as we will be reaching out to those whom we think fit the roles best for callbacks.  If you aren't contacted by us, don't lease heart!  We will be needing even more people in the future for the full version of the game, so keep an eye out for when we announce the second round of auditions.  In the mean time, consider following us on Facebook and Instagram as @Madcapatticdigital!  Once again, thank you to everyone who took part in this great adventure of ours!  We'll see you on the flipside!

Update: Wow, you guys really came out to bat for us!  We didn't expect to get this many auditions so quickly.  Thank you guys for all your support!  Keep up the good work, everyone!

"In the Year 6234...
In the bustling port-town of New Wharf City, crime is as rampant as the street rats are dirty!  One Marion Maloney lives in the heart of the city at his cabaret called the Sunflower, an entertainment cover-up for his secret Artisan Black-Market Weapons Business.  Life is pretty swell for Marion!  That is, at least until an adventurous old friend reappears!  Enter Opalumine Ogden!  The Moth-Alien girl-next-door type that can't keep her klepto to herself...  Play as the prolific crime lord himself as Marion explores 4 separate timelines in this Cyber30s Noir Punk adventure!  There is a whole colorful host of unique characters who join up with the duo, or even tear them asunder!  But remember, every choice you make has a consequence... Who will you become in New Wharf City?"

VOICE ACTORS NEEDED!

We here at Madcap Attic Digital are creating a brand new, innovative videogame that bridges the gaps between Bullet Hells, Turn-Based RPGS and Visual Novels!  "Marion Maloney's Sideways Escapade" is a choose-your-own-adventure styled story that follows Marion Maloney as he navigates through the branching timelines that occur in the crime-ridden New Wharf City (in a neo-retro 1930s styled future-cyberpunk kind of way).

We are looking for talented VAs to help us tell this story!  There are a lot of colorful and unique characters that need to be brought to life, and we can only do that with YOUR help.

This specific project is for the DEMO version of the game.  As we continue to gather artists and VAs alike, we will use this Demo to go forward and launch a Kickstarter in hopes to be fully funded for the full version.  At that point, we will probably add even more characters to the roster and have another casting call, however

THIS WILL BE AN ONGOING PROJECT THAT WILL REQUIRE A LOT OF LINES FROM THE MAIN CAST.  IF YOU ARE CAST AS A MAIN CHARACTER, YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO WORK ON THE FULL GAME AND STICK WITH THE PROJECT FOR FOLLOW UP PRODUCTIONS/GAMES!

As such, All important roles will be paid!

For the DEMO
Main Characters - $100
Supporting Characters - $50

For the Full Game
Main Characters - $500
Supporting Characters - $250

The pay schedule is 30% upfront, and the remaining 70% on the line-deadline of April 3rd, 2021, provided all needed lines are submitted prior.

Again, a lot of details pertaining to the full version of the game are dependent upon the Kickstarter's outcome.

AUDITIONING AND DEADLINES

These are the requirements for auditioning:

- First of all, have fun!  We wanna make sure this project is fun for everyone involved, and while there certainly is work to be done, we wanna make sure every involved is passionate!
- Please submit clean recordings on prosumer mics (no air conditioners in the background, no fans -- we don't mind performing noise reduction on your files, however too much clean-up reduces the quality of your voice). And speaking of clean-up -- please let us handle the post-production. Don't add effects to your lines -- leave that to our audio geniuses :)
- When it comes to sending in lines, feel free to splice the different takes together, but be mindful of the rule of 3! 3 unique takes of one line is the perfect way to showcase your talent, and also makes it easy for us to work with your recording. Too many takes can easily overflood your audition, so make sure you put your best foot forward.
- If we really like your audition, we will schedule a brief interview over discord so we can speak with you and hear your voice in an improv session. If you are unable to do a voice-chat-meeting, let us know and we will make other arrangements
- When you audition, please submit your discord handle in the notes section.  We can't contact you without that.

The deadline for auditions is Saturday February 20th, 2021 and the deadline for turning in lines is Saturday April 3rd, 2021!  We will work with everyone as closely as we can to make sure everyone is well equipped for their lines and will have clear instructions about what is expected of them.  We are a friendly group of people, so please feel free to talk with us about any lines or directions we are headed.

If you have any comments or concerns about auditions, please contact us here on CCC
We wish you all Good luck, and a Happy Competition!!

Louisse Tinsley

Paid: Flat Rate 100 USD
Role assigned to: thejediexile

Kind of a tomboy, Louisse is a good-ole farm girl!  She's a sweet, with nothing but goodness in her heart!  Though, she also is much stronger than she appears, and she appears quite strong to begin with. Despite her size, however, she can also tend to be a bit of a pushover. Overall, a good fighter, and a good friend.  Think of the gentle giant type character!

Louisse's voice is more of a lower female.  Something soothing, but with a little heft to it.  Accent doesn't need to be specifically Texan, just something country

Alignment: Neutral Good

Similar to: Scorpia (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power), Noi (Doro Hedoro)

  • [Overly Friendly/Happy to see her old friend] Marion! You slimy rat!  I ain’t seen ya since the night of Teeterbottom’s Coronation over in New Fangleton!  The night you left me behind with those bandits Raddish sent our way!

  • [confident at first, then slowly not confident] Yeah! I know exactly what you mean! That's like, when you... When you have a socket wrench! And you... socket.. wrench it?  Yeah I'm sorry I have no clue~

  • [sorrowful anger] I swear... I am going to do EVERYTHING in my power to bring you back to your senses... Even if it means breaking you...!

Paid: Flat Rate 100 USD
Role assigned to: abigailturner

A true femme fatale, Lucy Hammond is the smoothest poison any man will ever gladfully sip upon.  She is seductive, mature and fierce!  She works alongside Douglas Jackson to gain as much power and money as they can.

Voice is more mature sounding, silky and seductive.

Alignment: Lawful Evil

Similar to: Zero Suit Samus (Smash Bros version), Widowmaker (Overwatch)

  • [seductively] What we're trying to say is that if you join us, you won't ever have to lift a finger again.

  • [Angry] Get your paws off me, cretin!  I'm a lady, not one of your whores.

  • [condescending] If we're being honest with ourselves, it really isn't in your control anymore now is it?

Maxwell Miasma

Paid: Flat Rate 100 USD
Role assigned to: EmiRay

Maxwell Miasma was a robot created to be a Pop Singing Sensation, but when she saw how her fellow bots were being treated by society, she decided to join the Silver Bullies, a robot revolution gang.  She is as charming as she is crazy though.  She can flip between Happy and Maniacal in an instant.

Her voice is a higher female voice.  Unlike other robots, she has an expressive voice, so nothing monotone.  Also, please don't put effects on your voice to sound like a robot, we will handle that part.

Singing is a must for this role.

Alignment - Chaotic Neutral

Similar to:

  • [Sentimental] Marion... I want a new start. This whole world is crazy, and.. if I could just do some good, I know... Even just a bit.. I can change it all.

  • [crazy] THATS RIGHT!! BURN THE HOUSE DOWN!!! AHAHAHAHAH EVERYTHING WILL BE ON FIRE!!

  • [For the singing portion, please sing an old timey song from the early 90s (1920s-1940s)]

[If you can't do something like that, you can do a modern song, but keep it the same style please]

Douglas Jackson

Paid: Flat Rate 100 USD
Role assigned to: Sydak

A shrewd businessman if there ever was one.  Douglas Jackson lives for making deals.  He'll do just about anything to get money, even if it means selling his own soul.  He is very serious and doesn't mess around.  Definitely a villainous character.

His voice should be more aged than the others.  A lower male, perhaps raspy?  This voice can be played with.  Sell me something!

Alignment: Lawful Evil

Similar to: Dr. Eggman/Dr. Robotnic (Sonic Series)

  • [showcasing a business deal] You think it's thievery, my boy!  That's where you're wrong.  This.. is Enterprise!

  • [Evilly]  It's a pity that I can't stay and watch your demise, but I have a plane to catch!

  • [Contemplative] It all seems surreal, Lucy... Are you sure we didn't miss something important?

Hogg Rotts

Paid: Flat Rate 50 USD
Role assigned to: Bradley Gareth

Marion and Opal's long time rival, Hogg runs a gang of undergrounders who often pull heists.  He is kinda cliche villain type character and plays into a lot of stereotypes.  He ends up being the butt of a lot of jokes

A deep male voice, gravelly and harsh.  The kind that hurts your throat trying to mimic.

Alignment: True Neutral

  • Marion!  Long time no see!! Mwahahaha!

  • NOO!!!!!  THE DEVIL'S EYE!!  GIVE IT BACK!!

  • Hahahah, Not a chance!  My boys here will tear through you like soggy toilet paper!

Sunny Sulkums

Paid: Flat Rate 50 USD
Role assigned to: Joshua Cookingham

Sunny is the down trodden assistant of Marion Maloney.  He is very dreary and sulking.  Very little effort is put into his appearance, and while he is good at following orders, its usually to the bare minimum.

Voice is male, any range, very bored sounding, perhaps a hint of whininess?

  • Yes Boss... Are you sure you really need me today?  It might be better if I took the day off...

  • I'm not going to force you.

  • Why can't it just stop raining already?  Gee, it sure looks ugly outside...

Mr. Moody

Paid: Flat Rate 50 USD
Role assigned to: TrentMichaelt

The lead weapon's designer on Marion's team.  He is a short squatty man who works hard.  Almost kind of dwarven?  He works hard and is a hard man.  His loyalties are simply to those who pay him the most.

Think about Torbjorn from Overwatch

  • A pleasure to work with ya, Mr. Maloney!  I think you'll find our selection of firearms to be to your liking.

  • The triple oscillators inside the firing chamber act as an energy-weaving driver that creates the pressurized plasma bolt, while the energized boron-fiber mesh inside the exhaust barrel charges the diffused photon fluid injected from the cartridge; this allows for ejection of the bolt at high velocity, as you of course saw.

There is a whole slew of unique and quirky characters in New Wharf City!  If you like to do different voices, this is your time to shine!  Anything goes here, so play around.  The prompts are just suggestions.

  • Improv something YOU came up with!

  • Do some improve with an accent or voice you're good with!

  • Improv about why you don't like tomato's in your salad!
