Porter School
Project Overview
Series Description
Porter School is a machinima played in the game Death Stranding about a group of high level porters that want to make educational videos to help new porters learn the ropes. The videos will come in two flavors: educational videos with a more presentational style like youtube tutorials, and story driven episodes that are more conversational, scenario driven dialogue. It would definitely help if you are familiar with the game Death Stranding, but not necessary.
I need two of the characters voiced, Walker and Zoe. Keep in mind that this is my first time doing anything like this at all, so I am very much a learner. In the explainer video I linked I talk about the series and why I am doing it. Its all just for fun, so its okay if we don't do it perfect. I'd rather have a blast and meet new people than worry about perfection, and I have a lot to learn. I have provided some character descriptions and a few scripts here as well as an explainer video introducing the idea. I am doing everything else for the series other than these two voices. I am voicing the other two main characters, Pancho and Benny, as well as the extras. I'm also doing all the game captures and editing and stuff. I may add a role for a writer later.
Character Descriptions
Zoe Akira: Zoe’s expertise is technology, structures, and vehicles. She is best described as an earnest and gifted scientist prone to moments of excessive enthusiasm, with notes of sarcasm and hints of a wild side. She is equally at home in the pages of technical specific or on the back of her favorite bike doing jumps across rivers. Her speech cadence is pretty frenetic and fast.
Walker Klymer: Walker’s expertise is environment traversal, deliveries, survival, and just generally being a good porter. A good character reference for walker would be Noxema Jackson from the film Too Wong Foo, or perhaps Ruby Rhod from the Fifth Element, but turned down a bit. He is male, effeminate, assertive and does not suffer fools, but he cares very much for his friends and dreams a better future for humanity.
Audition Scripts
Below I have included scripts for episodes 1 and 2 of the more story episodes. They are provided to give some indication of the way the dialogue will be written and to give you some good information about the setting, characters and story. I have also highlighted the areas in yellow where I would like to hear your voice.
Added character lines for E.G.
Episode 1 Dialogue - Walker Audition:
Walker and Pancho are at the Distribution Center West of Capital Knot setting up for their trip to Port Knot.
Walker - Noooo you do not have have to collect an order, we already have a hard route don't make it any harder.
Pancho - Come on, just a (actual order) they need this stuff over there
Walker -And they'll get it, the eastern region is filled with new porters, eyes shining, smiles beaming, and asses so full of shit its coming out of their ears. They probably make duplicate orders because they know the newbies are bound to fuck up the first time.
Pancho - Easy, everyone's trying y'know.
Walker - Whatever, lets just get on the road seriously it’s a tough climb south of here and timefall waits for nobody.
Pancho - You go ahead Walker I know you don't like to wait around but I like to take my time
Walker - Tsk… fine amigo but if you get lost I'm going to let the BTs void your lazy ass out
Pancho - No you wouldn't
Walker walking away from Pancho at the gate - Just try me bitch, don't forget the container repair spray
Pancho - Ugh… fuck, yeah I forgot.
Walker starts ahead of Pancho and heads up the hill on his own, laying down ladders for Pancho to use, and getting them around the timefall. They are talking over the comms system in their helmets during all of these scenes.
Pancho - Too bad the zip line isn't connected to anything
Walker - That's the problem. Nobody thinks about how everything goes together they just lay down what they need in the moment and then everything is just all over the place.
Pancho - Yeah you think if we work together more now that we have the chiral network
Walker - Not likely. That would mean dragging the ignorant masses out of there solitary Monster Energy drink driven little world of excess. Btw. Apologizing ahead of time for the ****** ladder placement
Pancho - Man… you aren't kidding.
Walker - Well I made it up so you should be fine quit complaining.
Pancho - Running out of container repair spray, I better hurry,
Walker at the top, Pancho still climbing
Pancho - Did you make it up alright?
Walker - Yup! I'm all set up and ready for the fun part. I'm telling you a floating carrier is the best fucking investment I have ever … fuuuucked?
Pancho - What?
Walker - Goddamn It!
Pancho - whoa you okay?
Walker - No I'm not okay! Some asshole porter left a rust bucket and a fuck ton of packages at the top of the hill! Dumbasses must drove through the timefall. UGH!
Pancho comes up over the hill
Pancho - Wow, that took guts?
Walker - No mother fucker what it took was stupidity. I swear someone has got to have a class or talk or a fucking inquisition because holy shit does anybody think about the other end of the order?
Pancho - Y'know, that isn't a bad Idea
Walker - What? An inquisition? Fuck yeah bitch, grab your pitchfork and your bible and let's burn some shit…
Pancho - No, I mean a class. Or, well, not a class but, what if we recorded ourselves doing a good job and then just showed everyone.
Walker - So you're asking me to do MORE work? Huh… no thank you….
Pancho - No you wouldn't have to do more work, we would just put a follow cam on you and you could just do your normal job. Then later we could edit it together into a chiralgram that people could watch when they are doing orders.
Walker - Well how would they see it?
Pancho - The cufflinks have email, we could just ask porters for their name and address and just start sending them the videos. We could even ask them to send us ideas and we could put those up too.
Walker - Huh, okay, I just work and stay on camera 24/7? Neato it reminds of the time I was in that cult.
Pancho - Basically, yeah. You're a good porter, just do your thing.
Walker - Will I get likes from it you think?
Pancho - I bet you would. I bet people would like your stuff out there more if they knew it came from you. We'll build the legend!
Walker - Well okay but first things first, let's BUILD a pile of packages on these carriers and move we're going to miss your boat.
At Port Knot City by the Beach
Walker - Ugh, this port smells like asshole. I wonder if there's any life left in that water.
Pancho - Probably not, the stranding basically got all the sea life that I can see.
Walker - I suppose shitty smelling ports is the least of our problems. You see those cranes off in the distance. That's a sight worth looking at. All of those cranes are keeping this weird story ass story going. Those cranes keep swinging back and forth, the weirdos in Bridges keep finding ways to use these chiral network shenanigans, you and me keep delivering, one of these days we'll bring it all back. Bet.
Pancho - You think we got a shot?
Walker - As good as we ever did. Alright bitch, you got everything you need?
Pancho - Yeah, I think I'm good.
Walker begins walking away - Well alright enjoy the central regioooon.
Pancho - You sure you don't want to come?
Walker - No thanks, I like my routes. You have fuuuun.
Pancho - Love you dude
Walker - ugh… don't call me dude.
Episode 2: Dialogue - Zoe Audition
Walker is going through checklist and mumbling to himself in the eastern region, Pancho is near the rough rocky area south of lake knot.
Walker - Okay, I'm going off comms to do some recording.
Pancho - Wait, what are you doing?
Walker - Recording! Hello? Remember the video project we're supposed to be doing?
Pancho - Yeah I know, but I thought we would just narrate over them. Did you want to do more of a presentation style?
Walker - Sure, of course! But wouldn't it be good to have some footage of us talking to camera, presenting in situ. A little flare, some editing options, I mean do you think people want to stare at the same shot from the follow cam the whole time?
Pancho - Okay, but why do you have to go off comms, I'm on a really long run and I'll be… you know.. alone.
Walker - One Word, FOCUS! Yours and mine. I'll focus on raising an army of new porters, you focus on your long haul delivery. You're a big central region porter now remember. It'll build character for you to face the wilds all on your own. Any last questions before I leave you to the wide open spaces?
Pancho - Yeah, how long are you going to be?
Walker - Not long, I got my whole process down like the back of my hand. This is serious work, gotta go! Good luck!
Pancho - Thanks
Pancho is having difficult with the terrain and losing his packages. Calling out to Walker but getting no response. He starts trying to cross a river and falls down the water fall, a great height that he would likely not survive (and you don't if you do it in the game)
Zoe is throwing up a zipline humming some tune to herself and going about her work normally. She sees Pancho washed up on the beach in the ravine below. To reach him she has to throw down a climbing anchor and scale down the side of a sheer cliff face, and then slowly cross through a deep river to the other side where Pancho has washed up.
Zoe notices Pancho as she is setting up a zipline - OH! OH NO! Hello?! Can you hear me?
Zoe Drops a climbing anchor - I'm coming down to rescue you. Don't die! Can you hear my voice?!
Zoe scaling a wall and crossing a river, becoming increasingly out of breath - Its Okay, breath in through the nose, out the mouth, if you feel nauseated stay still, do not perform any major lifting motions. If you have to evacuate your bowels do so with minimal bearing down, if your pelvis is fractured you could badly exacerbate pain and other symptoms. Under no circumstances should you Consider ( begins losing breath) consuming solid food until we can safely determine if your intestinal track is free of contusions or other damage.
Pancho waking up - what? Oh, hey, wow… what happened.
Zoe out of breath approaching Pancho - you're breathing, can you see,
Pancho - huh?
Zoe - can you SEE?! Do you have vision
Pancho - oh, uh… yeah, I feel pretty good.
Zoe - ah…. Oh… okay… goood… that's good… well…. Okay then I guess I'll…
Pancho - Where am I?
Zoe - Oh, well you're just west of South Knot near the river. You appear to have gotten in an accident.
Pancho - oh, whoa… yeah… Hey, I just fell down that waterfall.
Zoe - Oh! Haha! No no no, that's very unlikely a fall from that height wouldn't lead to this conversation I'm sure.
Pancho - I mean… I agree but….
Zoe gasps- omg nice level 2 carrier! Little banged up but she's purring.
Pancho - Yeah, I found it in a post box
Zoe - Oh my, it even has the new reintermediated flux bridge. Ugh, the L1s were so touchy. You had to remove the spline reticluation bearings just to reach the girdles that hold those lower struts in. Neeeeat!
Pancho - uh, okay… sure, thanks. Hey you ever work in bridges tech
Zoe - oh yes, I've written the occasional system spec in my day. Of course I don't suppose you've read up much on biphasic lepton shifting in polarized chiral nanomeshes have you?
Pancho - oh… haha… no afraid not.
Zoe - yeah, scary.
Pancho - huh?
Zoe - Well I best be headed back. I'm supposed to be routing ziplines I only have one more pcc to get us out of this little pit we've ended up in. (throws up a zipline)
Pancho - wow you have some really great gear. Hey, have you ever wanted to teach people everything you know about tech? I bet there are a lot of porters that could use this information.
Zoe - oh yeah I'd love to, but you know I spend most of my time out here reparing what the timefall breaks. I'd have to prepare a ccirriculum a syllabus for courses, assemble readings, gather material for lab work. I mean the overhead is more than enough to kick off a new stress habit.
Pancho - Well hey, me and some friends are working on a video series we are going to share through email on the cufflinks. Do you want to help, it wouldn't be too much additional work. You'd just use a follow cam and we would edit together your normal work.
Zoe - Oh, well that doesn't seem too invasive. Following me around. Watching me… SURE! Let's be voyeurs why not! Ever use a zipline before?
Pancho - No why? HOOOO! Whoa… what the hell…
Zoe - have fuuuuun
Pancho zipping up the hill - oooh aaaaAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!
Zoe - ahahahahaha!!! Ooooh I love that. I really love that.
Walker - OMG I leave you alone for a day and you are screaming bloody murder the second I am back online.
Zoe - its okay it'll be just a minute.
Walker - Oh, whose this
Zoe - OH Hi! Zoe, who's this
Walker - Well hi zoe, how are you, have you seen my buddy Pancho?
Pancho - Ugh… huuuuuuh….eeeeeeh….
Walker - Oh, never mind I am very familiar with those pained grunts and moans, Hey Pancho
Pancho - hey… we have a new instructor
Walker - yeah we've met, you okay
Pancho - ziplines fucking suck….
Walker - oooo we're doing ziplines now, Zoe, niiixe
Zoe - hehehehe, thaanks glad to be a part of the team.
Pancho - yeah, super to have you. Question, how do I get the fuck down?

Must be comfortable with the language as written. Walker's speaking cadence is pretty quick. I can guarantee one half hour of paid work with the potential for an hour or even more. The writing is not yet complete for the whole series, so I will ask you to record in batches, multiple episodes at a time, probably 2-4 rounds. Hope that production plan is alright.

I can offer one half hour of work guaranteed with possibility for more. Zoe has moments of enthusiasm and moments of dry sarcasm so a good vocal range is helpful. Also a lot of complex lines with technical jargon.

This role is for a character in the story that plays an interesting part. He is the only character that knows he is in a video game. He is called E.G. and in the story he plays the role of the enigmatic porter that shows up off and on throughout the story to guide the other characters. He is very powerful and can float in the air, as well as teleport at will like Fragile can. In the tutorial videos, he handles all of the stuff that the in-world characters can't like how to use the save menu and stuff to your advantage, and all the hidden details and things.
The character could be played with an accent of your choice. His personality is sarcastic and sardonic with a kind of all knowing wisdom. He isn't melevolent, but is a little spooky. Feel free to experiment.
Uuh… sheesh… alright would you relax? seriously… alright… I get it you're freaked out but there's nothing to be afraid of. You are just a tertiary character in a shitty web series made by some asshole. In the end none of this will matter.
I can't say much yet, but I want you to hear something from me. I want you to remember something very important.
Ugh! why do I bother. Listen, just remember what I said alright, for fucks sake.
I am putting this role here in case someone would really like to help with the project unpaid. A lot of the work I need I could get through Fiverr, but if someone wanted to help out and provide some creative input and have a just for fun project to practice on. I can use help from someone to help me remove backgrounds on several clips that will be 2-10 seconds in length. They will be fairly close up shots of homo demens and the characters in the story so that they can later be composited into some of the group since in the story. Other stuff would be color grading the layers and adding other effects to build the scene.
There's also a lot of room for someone to just do the raw edits for the episodes. I'd appreciate any help really.
Say something you think would fit
Porter School is a Machinima so there is no real animating of character models that needs to be done. However, it would be great to have some help from someone to add minor animations to the characters, or to find some way to make the models look more expressive or gesture more using After Effects. My current plan is to take a few close up screens of the characters and use a 2D rigging system to animate slight gestures and motions into the characters.
Say something you think would fit
This character is a straight up tribute to Pedro De Pacas from Cheech and Chong's Up In Smoke :) If you can do a good Pedro impression you can play this character. NOTE: this role may not be cast. I have someone lined up but they might fall through so I am throwing this up as a hedge.
AAAAAh!!! Oh my god is that those estupido piss and shit grenades?! You mother fucker!
God damn Terminal. Hey! Hey anybody on? What the fuck is up with the chiro network lately? Can't get my terminal to burn, man, this cabron's about to pop. Pendejo. (Chuey is talking to himself in an empty building here)
I dunno bro. Those buildings look okay but they're kind of all over the place. You know my cousin Beto woke up from a nap and was stuck on top of one of those timefall shelters. Like it wasn't even there when he went to sleep. He's was on like rocks and stuff. Pretty weird right? I mean, how do you get a whole building through the sky like that? That's like some crazy magia stuff. Like Bridges hired a bunch of curandera to do like chanting and shit.
