PAID - Night Shift - urban fantasy audio drama (NOW CLOSED)

Project Overview

Hi everyone, I'm Skye! Creative director and head writer for the Night Shift podcast.

CASTING CALL IS NOW CLOSED! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUBMISSIONS. We'll be going through them this week and will contact successful applicants!

Night Shift is a fiction podcast / audio drama, set in urban fantasy America. Season 1 ran 16 episodes from 2022 - 2023, and has racked up over 220,000 listens on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, with a rating of 4.8/5.

We're an indie podcast passion project with a small crowdfunded budget. The project is queer-led with a full cast of nearly 40 people already. You can find more information on our website or on Twitter, and listen to the current episodes on SpotifyApple Podcasts and anywhere else you listen to podcasts

About the Roles

We have several new roles available for our LGBT-friendly cast, seeking male, female and nonbinary voices for season two. 1 major character, 10 minor characters and a number of extras needed.

All roles are in English and most have American accents, however please look closely at the descriptions for each character, as some have other accents from Nigerian to Slavic.

If you are cast, you will be expected to commit to remote recording for our entire second season, which will run at 24 episodes.

AUDITION DEADLINE IS NOW NOVEMBER 15TH, 11PM GMT.

No previous experience is necessary to apply, just enthusiasm for the project! As this is an ongoing venture, we need a committed cast who are interested in being part of the show.

Recording will be done remotely, on your own time to set deadlines, arranged via email and our production Discord server. A USB or XLR microphone is required to match sound quality on the production.

We're an indie production, so we are compensating our cast at a set rate for the first 25 lines:

  • $75 for first 25 lines for major roles

  • $50 for first 25 lines for minor roles

  • $25 for extra roles, covering 250 words or less

Payment for all lines is $1 per line after that.

Minimum compensation for any actor in Season 1 was $50, and maximum was $1000. Average compensation was $155 for appearing in 6-8 scenes. Payment will be made via Paypal.

About the Podcast

Night Shift is a queer-led, pulp fiction audio drama podcast, tackling conspiracy stories and corruption in the fictional pacific northwest city of Echor. The story is set in an urban fantasy world inhabited by people with extraordinary powers both natural and artificial.

Once a quiet mining town barely on the map in the far reaches of our arcane history, Echor City is now a trailblazing neon metropolis. The city is dominated by the Augur Corporation and their ALPHAs, the world’s first bioengineered superhumans, as they work to recreate the dwindling magic of the past. Dangerous narcotics and ancient arcane relics move on the black market, leaving chaos in their wake. The terrifying power of the Veil transforms those it touches into bizarre mutants forced to hide among society.

Sebastian Fen hates Augur. He’s determined to unravel the mysteries that seem to permeate every corner of his city and figure out what the company is hiding. After a chance encounter with Dr. Angelo Volta, the enigmatic head of Augur’s bioengineering department, Sebastian soon finds himself tangled in the heart of it all.

Elements of mystery, science fiction, horror, and magic throughout.
