Hello!
We’re adding partial voice acting to our commercial Visual Novel “Our Life: Beginnings & Always”. It’s a slice-of-life story with comedy, romance, drama, and many wonderful memories to make. It’s rated 16+ for some mature topics. It doesn’t include explicit content. You can read more about the project on its demo page here!
A main feature of OL is that you get to live through four different periods of life (called "Steps"): childhood, adolescence, teen-aged, and adulthood. Right now we’re casting some Step 1 and Step 2 roles. There will be more casting calls for the other Steps in the future.
General Info:
For the Cove role, we’ll need two types of words; names and normal words. A special option in the game is to pick a name for the playable character that has voice acting along with it. Most of the Cove work is just going to be saying different names.
Payment: 30 cents per every word
Cove Word Estimate: 700 names, 100 normal words
Other Character Word Estimate: 200 normal words
Swearing: None
Paid Through: Paypal
Age Requirement: 18 or older
Communication: Email or Discord
Line Format: WAV or MP3
Number of Open Roles: 5
The VA doesn’t have to identify as the same gender as a character in order to audition for that character. For example, a voice actress could apply for Step 2 Cove if she’s comfortable doing a young male type of voice.
If a VA doesn’t have time to audition we can also accept demo reels.
VAs can audition for more than one role.
The payment estimate that’s listed is the minimum. There’s a possibility the amount will increase.
For VAs who are hired, we’ll need a small first batch of lines done within a few weeks. Please only audition if you’ll be available to start working on the project in January, 2020.
Auditioning:
Please have clear audio with no background noise.
Please don’t edit the pitch of your voice or add other audio effects.
Two to three takes are preferred, but not required.
Thank you for visiting our casting call and good luck to everyone who auditions!

Age: 13-years-old (Step 2, his age is different in the other Steps)
Voice: Lower pitch than his child version, though still boyish rather than mature. Soft in tone.

Cove’s personality varies depending on his experiences in the childhood section of the game. Overall he’s an honest and reserved young man. Rarely loud and never especially rowdy. He likes to think of himself as being laid back. While that’s true on many days, Cove gets distinctly anxious and emotional when things start to go wrong or when he’s overwhelmed.
“Yeah. I mean, it's nice seeing you, too. Not that it's nice for you to see me.”
(Bashful, awkward, stilted. He’s nervously trying to have a conversation with his crush. He agreed that it was nice to see him, but he meant it was nice to see them.)
“I hope your family likes this. It's a pretty good gift. I think so, anyway.”
(Casual, mildly friendly, laid back. He’s delivering something sent by his dad.)
“Jamie is not stupid!”
(Taken aback, defensive, mad. Someone unfairly insulted his friend and he’s not okay with that.)
Age: 29-years-old (Step 1, his age is different in the other Steps)
Voice: Low pitch, warm, emotive
Cliff can be a difficult guy to like, but an even harder guy to hate. He’s personable, generous, and clearly seems to be trying. But he’s also impulsive, reckless, and socially awkward. Cliff’s got a real problem with being too friendly too quickly and struggles at assessing how he’s coming across to other people. Sometimes that causes Cliff to overly second guess himself, other times it makes him go all in with actions he really shouldn’t be doing. His absolute biggest priority is his son, Cove.
“Can you try to be friends with the boy? Just give it a chance and you can keep this!”
(Friendly, encouraging, the second sentence is more enthusiastic. He’s offering the MC $20 to befriend his son Cove.)
“Aha, sure, sure. Striving to improve is... good, too.”
(Awkward, uncomfortable, unsure, trying to sound friendly. The kids are complaining about not winning in a competition and he doesn’t know what to say about it.)
“That's where your friends were. You didn't have to be by yourself.”
(Softer spoken than usual, a bit despondent. Cove went off by himself and Cliff feels bad that his kid spent the activity all alone.)
Age: 35-years-old (Step 1, her age is different in the other Steps)
Voice: Gentle, mature, medium pitch
Noelani is a patient and softhearted woman. She tends to care a bit too much, having all cheer temporarily deflate if her loved ones ever have to deal with a sad thing in life. She’ll coddle and spoil her children while reassuring her wife that it’ll be fine. Noelani is not a pushover, however. She’s strict when it comes to cleanliness and would never let anyone get away with dismissing her. She is also quite perceptive, though she’ll usually stay quiet about it all and just knowingly keep watch.
“Isn't that just the sweetest thing?”
(Happy, positive, but not especially excited/exuberant. Her kid is getting along with Cove and she’s glad they’re making friends.)
“Funny. I don't think that excuse will work if you're late for anyone other than your own mother, though.”
(Casual, a bit amused, and relaxed. Her kid made a sarcastic remark and she’s mildly entertained by that attitude.)
“Is that all that you have to say for yourself? You brought half the beach back with you.”
(A bit taken aback, not very pleased, but not raising her voice. Her kids got soaked at the beach when they weren’t supposed to and Noelani doesn’t appreciate the mess.)
Age: 37-years-old (Step 1, her age is different in the other Steps)
Voice: Medium to low pitch, expressive, lighthearted
Pamela is a mildly sarcastic jokester. She tends to be silly and say things that she knows will get a reaction out of the listener. Despite that lighthearted attitude, Pam is a big stickler for the rules and a worrier. At least when it comes to safety. Pamela is comfortable with the notion that sometimes things just don’t work out. She doesn’t act as though it’ll always be okay, but promises to always be there for those she loves.
“Nobody here is a loser or a rotten egg. You're each farm fresh.”
(Casual, encouraging, peacemaking. The kids are calling each other names and she’s waving away their insults.)
“Oh no, we are so dull. Let's get out more.”
(Amused, jokey, a bit sarcastic. Pam and her wife are out of touch with what’s happening in the area and Pamela is being silly about that.)
“As soon as dinner's ready, you lot are coming inside, understood?”
(Firm, clear, but not harsh. She’s letting the kids stay out a little later than usual and is making sure they know when they have to be back.)
Age: 10-years-old (Step 1, her age is different in the other Steps)
Voice: Childish, energetic, high pitched though not exaggeratedly so
Lizzie is the quintessential bossy big sister. She’s the boisterous self-proclaimed leader of the kid group in the neighborhood. Getting her way is all she knows and she very much does not appreciate being told “no”. Lizzie also loves to compete, as long as she gets to win. And while Lizzie is outgoing enough to deal with strangers, she prioritizes the people she already knows over trying to get to know new people.
“Alright. What's question two? Come on, let's keep going!”
(Starts off casual and upbeat, becomes extra enthused in the second sentence The kid group is taking part in a library quiz and Lizzie wants to win it.)
“This is the land of ancients. Be careful that the oldies don't try to steal your youth.”
(Amused and a bit taunting. She’s trying to scare Cove, who has just moved into the neighborhood.)
“I didn't say anyone would do it. Geez.”
(Put out, a bit defensive, kind of dismissive. Cove called one of Lizzie’s ideas out as being bad. She’s trying to recover from that by acting like it’s his fault for taking it so seriously.)
