Orange [Manga Dub for Backlights Studios]
Project Overview
Hello! My name is Ish, and I'm excited to be, along with Mayo from Backlights Studios, running a fandub of one of my favourite manga: Orange by Ichigo Takano!
It's a beautiful story that makes me cry every time I read it, so I hope you can come on this journey with me in fandubbing it!
Synopsis:
16 year old Takamiya Naho receives a strange letter one day before school. Upon opening it, she discovers that it has been sent from herself 10 years in the future. The letter makes predictions about her day, all of which come scarily true as the day goes on. The letter asks one thing of her: save Naruse, a transfer student from Tokyo. But.. save him from what?
REQUIREMENTS:

- LONG TERM COMMITMENT: AT THE MOMENT THIS CASTING IS JUST FOR VOLUME ONE BUT WE MOST LIKELY WILL END UP DUBBING THE WHOLE FIVE VOLUME MANGA

Naho is the protagonist. She is always ready to help and often ends up doing other people's odd jobs around the school. She's easily flustered but kind and sweet.
Voice: Mid-high and slightly soft
[Opening the story, exposition] The spring I was sixteen, I got a rather detailed letter. How did it get here? And why is it here? Who wrote it...?
[Inner thoughts, panicked] No way! That can't be true! It has to be...a coincidence. It's only a coincidence.
[Inner thoughts, pity] He looks so sad.
Kakeru is a quiet figure, yet he always has a smile on his face, no matter how sad he seems. He is the lead man.
Voice: Mid-low, quiet
[Giving in, reluctant, shy] Then...I guess for a short time, it's okay.
[Monotone, dark] If you only "put up with it", it's your loss.
[Upbeat, happy] Your home-run was great. I'll be on the team next year. Promise. I'm better than Suwa! Just watch!
Hiroto is an energetic and friendly guy, always nice to everyone, especially Naho, and a member of the "soccer" team (quotes because I'm British). In the non-letter timeline, he ends up marrying Naho but won't do anything to stop her and Kakeru becoming closer.
Voice: Mid, energetic
[Energetic] Naho! Come home with us!
[Friendly] First things first, let me introduce everybody.
[Shouting, like he almost forgot] Ah, Kakeru!! Is it actually alright to call you Kakeru?!
Azu is energetic and over the top. She loves to do things with the other members of the group and is constantly fighting with Hagita.
Voice: Mid, bouncy
[Cheerful] That's right, Kakeru!! Come have bread at my place!
[Teasing, snarky] And you were "Right Sided Four Eyes" ! Because your glasses were always bent.
[Nervous, trying to stay upbeat] Then...Then I'll do it!!!
Hagita is your stereotypical nerd. He loves reading manga and fighting with Azu. He often doesn't quite follow what's happening with the group and can be blunt.
Voice: mid-low, a tad monotone
[Annoyed, snarky] You talk too much. The 8 o'clock Azusa is departing now.
[Determined] Sorry. I have to watch "Evening Get".
[Miffed] Shut up. It's my brother's. [To himself] Though he doesn't have a family yet either.
Takako is mostly calm and collected though when one of her friends is involved in something, she's quick to snap.
Voice: Mid-low, sometimes cold
[Smiling] It's only a half day today anyway.
[Mildly confused] But there isn't an 8 o'clock Azusa, right?
[Angry, scolding] Not only am I ugly, I've got a short fuse too.
Another Tokyo transfer student. She dates Kakeru but their relationship is quickly broken off, leading Ueda to dislike Kakeru's friends, especially Naho. She's also pretty much the most popular student at the school.
Voice: Mid
[Sweet, dismissive] She's kind of cute, in a country bumpkin sort of way.
[Aloof] I don't really have a lot in common with the kids here.
[Angry] No, you apologise to me!! You're always staring at that stupid redneck!!
