Laboratory scientists for a video game

Laboratory scientists for a video game

Project Overview

The project is an indie video game that focuses on the trials of insects.

This is quite a small project and I don't have a big budget available for voice acting so I have tried to keep the scripts short so the money is reasonable. I have never worked with a voice actor before, so I think it would make sense for us to be connected via Skype for the duration of the job so that I can offer some live direction.

The scripts are ready to go and I am on a tight schedule so I am looking for people as soon as possible.

I am looking for a voice actor for an indie video game project. They will play the part of a nature documentary narrator. I am hoping to find someone for $100 per hour for about 2-3 hours work (around 2000 words). The narrator will mostly be describing the behaviour of carnivorous insects and I want it to feel quite dark.  Here is an example of the sort of style I would like:

That is Andy Serkis (the voice of Golumn in Lord of the Rings) - he is probably a bit out of my price range!  I love the way he uses his breath sometimes, almost whispering.

I am not looking for an exact impersonation of this, it is just an example; by all means try to capture the mood with your own style.
Note - I am specifically looking for someone with a British accent (pref English, but I imagine with the right style, Scottish, Welsh or Irish could fit also).

Update: Thanks for auditioning everyone, I got way more than I was expecting and I really appreciate the effort.

  • "Ants... They’re organized... Industrious... And hungry... But in the undergrowth, there’s no such thing as a free lunch"

  • "The crickets have had their fill of roots for the day, and are now on the hunt for protein rich invertebrates; this queen and her brood are in imminent danger of being devoured."

  • Sometimes the narrator will need to convey a game-play point quickly to the player, try to say this one with some urgency:
"The colony is starving, there is not enough food to feed the new brood"

I am looking for someone to play the part of a slightly unhinged, obsessive biologist who is doing experiments on insects.  They will hold conversations with their boss and also they will talk to themselves (or to the insects). When the boss is not looking, this person can be quite sadistic, and get carried away running unnecessary experiments to sate his own fascination.

I think a style similar to Mark Heap would work well.  This is a nice example:
This one is a little more deranged:

The part is about 700 words and shouldn't take more than an hour.

Note - I am specifically looking for someone with a British accent (pref English, but I imagine with the right style, Scottish, Welsh or Irish could fit also).

  • (in a conversation
    with another scientist)
"It’s fascinating, she has already started to spawn.  Incredible really that we found such a healthy specimen"

  • (talking to
    himself, sarcastic / sadistic)
"Whoops, I seem to have dropped my beetles, I hope they don’t harm the little ants!"

  • (talking to himself, pleased / proud)
    "A marvelous victory."

This role is for a female research project leader. She should be commanding, sharp and to the point.  I think a posh English or Scottish accent would work well.  Like one of Maggie Smith's no-nonsense characters:

The part is only about 300 words so it shouldn't take more than 30-45 minutes.

  • "The colony seems to have made significant progress, perhaps it is time we began phase 2 of the trial"

  • "Excellent, lets see how they handle a few more, shall we?"

  • "Very well, purge the formicarium."
