Synopsis:
The search for Aunt May continues as Spider-Man finds himself in more and more deadly situations with his past foes. On top of that, his secret identity is at risk as everyone is scrambling to find the man behind the mask after a leaked hospital photo. Will he manage to avoid those who desire the reward money as well as find out who captured his beloved aunt? Or will a certain symbiotic villain keep him from reaching those goals?
Introduction:
Hello everyone! My name is David Kemp (aka DK or MasterDK). I am a YouTuber who produces content centered around music, opinionated discussions, and of course voice work. This type of project is very much a first for me, but I have so far made tremendous progress in completing it, along with many amazing voice talents. Not only do I get to share my love of comics to the fullest but I can work with and grow friendships with the lovely VA community. I look forward to what comes out of this next addition to this dub series and what you all bring to the table.
There are a total of 22 issues in Marvel Knights Spider-Man and there are separate story arcs across them. I intend to do them all, but this specific casting call will be for the issues of the “Venomous” arc. Keep in mind that this overall project is long term and certain major roles will be returning in future parts. Keep this in mind before auditioning as I’d hate to replace a perfect voice for the role. Make sure you have the time. I can’t say how long this will overall be, but seeing as how there are 4 separate arcs followed by 4 more issues, it may extend to about a year or two. Just expect me to ask you to stick around on my server.
For this project, I’ll be providing the voice for Peter Parker / Spider-Man, as I have in the previous dub.
You may notice there are a lot of minor roles to fill. Some of them are even unnamed. I encourage everyone to try and audition for multiple roles. Because you might end up landing more than one, whether it be all minor or a combination of major and minor. All unnamed roles will be credited in the final product as “Additional Voices”.
Rules:
A Discord is preferred if you have one, as I have a server for this project. If you do, be sure to include it in your email. If not, you can request that I give you everything you need solely through email.
You must have a good microphone. One that is clear and at least close to studio quality. No cheap laptop, phone or headset mics. It would be distracting otherwise. Try to keep out background noises as well. Edit out any mistakes you make. I can work with most audio and can always give it tweaks if needed. But I cannot make it sound good if it is simply too sloppy.
4. It is important to note that this project is UNPAID, and will be focused on experience and not money. I promise to give credit to everyone who participates and will promote your main outlets to my YouTube audience. I will converse with you regarding how you wish to be credited on the project after your parts are given.
5. If you land a role or more than one, you will need to be very attentive of where your lines are. Your script will be the comic itself. You will need to pay close attention to where your lines are delivered, everything down to the one-word interjections you might have, so that you don’t miss lines when recording. If you need help identifying a certain line, I will assist you.
6. Make sure you have a large range of emotional delivery, as I would like the different layers of these characters’ personalities and emotions to really shine through in this dub. Whatever emotion the character displays in that panel, that’s what should be translated into your vocal performance. It may be difficult if for example, you are in an environment where you can’t be loud and/or give it your all. Also I must note that if you are going to be loud, avoid peaking in your recordings. I’ll try my best to minimize it myself through the editing process, but in order for it to sound more natural, try and avoid it as much as possible.
Most famous host of the Venom symbiote. With his body gradually getting weaker from his battle with cancer, he is now looking to give up his life as Venom and pass the symbiote onto the next generation of criminals. Eddie gives off both the appearance and personality of someone tough enough to take on anyone, and due to him and the symbiote’s coexistence, wears many of his negative emotions on his sleeve. He is also at his most vulnerable in his current state. Try and translate these into your vocal performance.
“Is this some kind of joke? Are you trying to get a rise out of me or something?”
“No sense making my last few days on Earth any more unpleasant than they have to be, right?”
“You sure you want to go through with this, son? Because it’s not too late to change your mind. You sure you want to throw your life away like this?”
The son of mob boss Don Fortunato. A very introverted young man who due to his failures in life and constant belittling of his father, has grown to hate himself. The combination of these things has led to him accepting his father’s wish to purchase the Venom symbiote to give it to him, despite the warnings of Eddie Brock himself. As the new Venom, he attacks Peter Parker at his high school reunion. Despite Spider-Man’s encouragement to fight off the symbiote, Angelo clings on, feeling like he is finally somebody as Venom. For this role, you will need to be able to capture both Angelo’s introverted and self-hating side, as well as his aggressive yet enlightened Venom side. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT EFFECTS. I WILL BE USING MY OWN.

“Dude, I can’t believe you’re just a high school teacher! I always thought you’d be something cool like a cop! Or a Navy seal! But you’re nothing under that mask!”
Current member of the X-Men and is the daughter of Scott Summers / Cyclops and Jean Grey / Phoenix in an alternate future timeline. She now lives in the present day in the X-Mansion, where Spider-Man visits and asks her to use her telepathic powers to find Aunt May. She tells Spider-Man that his aunt might be dead. I am looking for someone who can capture a personality similar to Jean Grey and can display emotional range.
“Jean Grey? Actually I’m her daughter from a parallel future timeline. She and Cyclops are my birth parents, but that reality doesn’t exist anymore so I mostly just hang out here these days.”
“I think your Aunt May’s dead…”
Don is a crime boss who is known as one of Kingpin’s biggest competitors. In this series, he bids for the Venom Symbiote at a supervillain auction to give to his son, who he seems to frown upon, at least in his pre-Venom state. I am looking for a mellow, meek but mobster-type voice for this role. As well as someone who can sound demeaning in a way that pushes his son’s sense of self-hatred forward.
“Ah, I never had the legs for the old spandex, Herman. I’m just here to put in a bid and see if this supervillain suit could maybe make something of my boy Angelo here.”
“I’m feeling better about the muscle Venom’s gonna bring to the family business, and this four-eyed little runt my wife brought into the world. After all these years, I’m gonna have a son that people don’t mistake for a daughter, you know what I’m saying?”
One of Spider-Man’s oldest foes, seen going on a double date with fellow villain, Morris Bench / Hydroman while attending the supervillain auction. He is known as one of Spidey’s biggest bruiser-type enemies. For this role, I am looking for someone who can sound like a small-minded brute but also an aggressive thug.
“Just that that ain’t Tigra over there. Tigra’s been living in L.A. for the past 6 months. She teamed up with Wonder Man against Boomerang just a few weeks ago.”
“What are you talking about? That ain’t Venom!”
Another classic Spider-Man foe that is seen on a double date with Flint Marko / Sandman at the supervillain auction. Kind of go for a typical young adult male voice but with that evil base behind it.
“You hear that, Flint? A hundred thousand bucks. And you know what else he’s gonna make for us? A lizard-skin handbag outta that lunatic Curt Connors. What do you think of that, big shot?”
“Oh yeah. And you’re such an expert on Tigra, right?”
Technological genius and long-time villain of Spider-Man. In this series, he is seen as the auctioneer at the supervillain auction. Just a typical diabolical, British genius voice is what I’m looking for.
“You all know me. You know my reputation when it comes to supplying high-quality weapons, names and costumes. So believe me when I say that what I have for you tonight outclasses anything we ever sold on the market before.”
“Naturally, you’ll want to check the goods before you make a bid, so I’d like to warn any epileptics in the audience to look away for a second as our friend here gets into character.”
One of Spidey’s most common enemies. In most interpretations, Shocker is very ill-tempered and hard-headed. But in this small scene he has in this part of the series, he is very casual while talking with Don Fortunato. So go for a casual approach with a slightly aggressive tone.
“Hey Mr. Fortunato? What are you doing here, man? You thinking about getting into the whole costume thing after all these years?”
“I’m here to buy myself a little respectability.”
Son of J. Jonah Jameson and accomplished astronaut. Go for just a charming, outgoing young man.
“Hey Peter, how’s it going man?”
“Yeah well, only as an instructor, but it’d be pretty cool to get my wings back, Peter. It’s weird using a sidewalk again when you’ve spent half your life in the air.”
Widow of the late Harry Osborn and another one of Peter’s exes. She meets up with Peter and Mary Jane at their high school reunion. I would go for someone eccentric as well as very supportive to Peter.
“Mister Warren? You remember Peter Parker with the big, thick glasses?”
“We’ve really had a lot of weirdness in our lives, haven’t we Peter? I mean killer robots in the school, Spider-Man always hanging around, Harry becoming The Green Goblin, Mark becoming the Molten Man, Harry’s dad all over the newspapers he was the *first* Green Goblin. Sometimes it’s like you’re the most normal person I know.”
One of the Spider-Man impostors approaches J. Jonah Jameson to collect the reward money for his secret identity. Looking for a wimpy, yet schemish delivery, as well as being able to talk like Spider-Man, or at least a caricature of him.
“The name’s Otis Kincaid, Mr. Jameson. And I’m the credit controller over at Marsh Insurance Brokers. You’ve no idea how good it feels to get that off my chest after all these years.”
“H-hey! Get your hands offa me, you pigs!”
SWAT captain who scolds his own force for trying to subdue Spider-Man. Looking for a tough, authoritative voice.
“Hold your fire! What the hell’s going on here??”
“Just get Doctor Octopus back in the truck and be glad I don’t have you idiots on report for this!”
Diner waitress who Spider-Man meets on his hero break. She is revealed to be the mother of Adrian Toomes / Vulture’s grandson, who is in need of leukemia treatment. Ramona is a very tough woman who is just trying to provide for her son, but is able to be vulnerable around those she feels she can trust, like Spider-Man. For her voice, I’m looking for someone who can capture both.

“Yeah well, I know you two ain’t exactly drinkin buddies or nuthin’, But it seemed like the kinda coincidence worth mentioning. I dated his son for a couple of years. In fact, Adrian’s the grandfather of my little boy I was telling you about.”
The portly employer of Ramona at her diner job. He comes off as an apathetic and typical grouchy boss, so go for that delivery.
“You think I give a rat’s butt, Ramona? All I know is I missed my damn bus and, while I remember, you think you could tell your boy my restaurant isn’t a post office box?”
“I dunno, some guy with brown hair and a brown jacket said an old man called Adrian asked him to drop this off.”
Woman with a tiger skin jacket seen out on a date with Morris Bench / Hydroman to the supervillain auction. She appears to be very wealthy and snobby, so I’m looking for a nose-up-in-the-air approach for her voice.
“Oh this ain’t no tiger skin, Joannie. Me and Morrie would never support what they have been doing to those beautiful beasts out there in Africa and England and stuff. No, this little beauty used to be one of The Avengers.”

“Hey Sadie, that’s a beautiful coat you got there, sweetheart. Is that tiger skin? I’ve been asking your friend The Sandman here to get me one of those things for years.”
The successor to the Mysterio mantle after Quentin Beck, as well as being formerly under the villain persona of Jack O Lantern. So along the lines of Beck’s Mysterio, sophisticated magician-type delivery, but make it your own at the same time. I’m open to interpretations around it.

“Auctioning a psychotic killer to a gang of supervillains? That doesn’t sound too ‘Christ-like’. What are you doing, Brock? Giving the proceeds to charity?”
Receptionist at the Daily Bugle and one of Peter Parker’s small-time exes. She is very casual and also sweet and understanding to Peter. So the delivery should be just a really nice front desk receptionist.

“Only about 10 times a day, but he’s gotta be the shortest one so far. Boy looks more like Ant-Man than Spider-Man.”
Former high school science teacher to Peter Parker, who attends the high school reunion. Looking for a sophisticated, British teacher delivery.
“You kidding me? Parker was the only kid that ever stepped into my class with a smile on his face. Ain’t that right, Peter?”
“How’s life treating you anyway, son? Liz was telling me you’re teaching here now?”
Cab driver that picks up Eddie Brock at the airport. He makes the mistake of putting Venom on his sign and cowers as he gets scolded by Brock for it. Give him sort of a cowardly voice, or at least a very intimidated one.

A receptionist that calls Peter Parker about failure to respond to credit card debts. Interpret however you’d like, so long as it fits the receptionist character.

“I’m afraid you’ll have to take that up with your bank. sir”
A child that Spider-Man swings above who sings a parody of Spider-Man’s theme song. So think of a kid who is obnoxiously attempting humor and go for that delivery.

A man who requests Spider-Man’s help with a flat tire, before Spidey gets jumped by Doctor Octopus. Interpret however you’d like.
“Aw come on fella. I thought you were supposed to be a superhero. I call a garage and they’re gonna charge 150 bucks just for pulling up.”
One of the SWAT officers that closes in on Spider-Man’s front. Go for an aggressive officer voice.
“Don’t you even try to run, freak! You think you people can do all this damage and just walk away? Forget about it scumbag! You’re coming with us!

“Hello Peter. Welcome to the X-Mansion. You’re just in time for your 8PM appointment.”
“God I’m such an idiot. I was answering the question you were going to ask 60 seconds from now, Spider-Man. My temporal perspective is still kind of screwy at the moment, and a lot of my chat comes out really jumbled.”
Former student jocks that are present at Peter Parker’s high school reunion. Since they are pretty much interchangeable characters, I decided to pile them together and pick out 3 of the best jock character auditions. Go all out with the sporty jock delivery with this one. Make it as cheesy as you’d like.
“Hey guys. You see who puny Parker just walked in with?”
“She’s unbelievable, man! Even better looking than she is in the magazines. How the heck did Parker ever find a chick like that?”
“Are you serious? What the hell is a former FHM babe doing married to a high school teacher?”
Creepy guy who flirts on Mary Jane during the high school reunion. He pretends to be Spider-Man in order to seem cooler.
“It’s the truth Mary Jane. And I’m only telling you because you look like the kinda girl who can keep a secret. You know how much the Bugle’s offering for this information?”
Guy who tries to take photos of Spider-Man’s fight with Venom. Go for a frightened approach for his character.
“He...he said this wouldn’t happen. This is insane. He...he promised there would be no risk…”
