March of the Emissaries
Project Overview
Synopsis:
The world is a cruel place, and there stands a hero who is eager to see it changed.
Join Caius on his trial to join the mysterious Emissaries. While they fight to protect the people from monsters, they aren't above dirtying their hands, and Caius's recruiter is all too eager to show him the bloody reins.
Not only must Caius survive the trial; but his morals, ideals, and character as a whole will be put to the test in this grisly story!

March of the Emissaries is a dark fantasy visual novel, developed during Nanoreno 2024 game jam, and already published on Itch.io (https://totalleeaweaomw.itch.io/march-of-the-emissaries) for free.
This project was developed by a small team of indie and aspiring game developers from different fields of expertise.
The team is looking to further improve the game, by bringing its characters to life with voice acting. Do note that this is an unpaid project.
How would the recording process take place:
You'll be provided with the script of the game - your lines will be highlighted, with comments and directions - as well as a pronunciation guide for characters' names, locations and other peculiar words.
You'll record the dialogues by yourself. If you'd like live direction (or someone to clarify and answer any of your questions), a member of the team will be available - do note that said team member has limited experience in voice direction, so we ask for your understanding.
Said live direction will be done via Discord.
Once the dialogues have been recorded, you'll be provided with a GDrive link where to drop your files (delivering them via e-mail is also possible).
We ask that you deliver your lines as a single file .wav file, with the audio as pristine and noiseless as possible.
The team will be in charge of splitting the dialogues.

Caius is a deeply scarred man from his childhood. Back in the days where Caius was an orphan, he and Priam (the best of friends) used to steal food and money from the people of Thrycia to keep themselves alive. Until, one unfortunate day, Priam ended up killing a soldier in order to save them both.
Caius, unable to handle the burden, blamed it all on his friend, knowing full well Priam would be hanged.
Fortunately, Reverend Hale IV save them both. But this betrayal, and the shame he felt, would shape his whole growth.
Decided to change society so everyone would be treated fairly, and wanting to become a better man (someone who his friends could trust and depend on), he set himself on the path of the monk - where he'd fast, live sparingly, and strength his body.
But where one would expect Caius to grow into a rigid and cold person, the opposite happened. He was adopted by Jory, a loveable and goofy man, who showered Caius with love and care.
This ensured Caius grew up as kind and gentle man.
Skip to current days, and Caius wants to join the Emissaries - a group fighting for the good of humanity, despite their ways being violent and downright cruel. Nevertheless, joining them would allow Caius to have the necessary influence to change society and make the world a better place.
And today is the day his evaluator - a member of the Emissaries - is arriving to test him. Caius will need to head out into some kind of challenge and prevail.
He feels ready. He's been preparing for this all his life.
But will he succeed? Has his training been enough? Caius can't help but feel nervous...

Then, let out an yell of pain and surprise, as your enemy breaks through your defenses and stabs you in the chest with a sword.*

Griswyr is a bona fide member of the Emissaries - a group of individuals working to turn the world into a better place, even if their methods area on the violent side. And Griswyr's personality is a reflection of these values.
To those who don't know Griswyr, he comes off as someone cold and arrogant - he's busy; he's got his own schedule to keep; and he's not here to pamper you, so you better keep your stupid questions to yourself and not drag him down.
When it comes to combat, Gryswir is a deadly whirlwind of bloodlust. With his short sword and hatchet in hand, Griswyr spins them around in a violent delight, bringing a gory ending to his opponents. And the flashier the kill, the better.
To those who know him, the picture changes quite a bit. His cold attitude is a reflection of the ostracization he suffered in his childhood. Being cursed at young age, Griswyr awakened to his eldritch powers. This translated into otherwordly strength and excellent night vision; at the expense of a lack of self-control, a craving for a blood, and the look of a walking corpse.
Griswyr has long learned to master these traits of his, but the mental scar from his young days remain, festering to this very day.
He also values independence and competent people, the very traits he had to acquire to survive. Prove that you can carry your weight and are an asset in battle, and you'll have yourself a stalwart companion. And he might not show you much affection, but find yourself in mortal danger, and he'll be the first one to come for your rescue.
Griswyr values Justice above all else. Despite his violent tendencies, he'd never hurt an innocent person - although you could argue that his definition of innocent is quite restrictive. For all those not innocent, beware, for he's coming to judge you, so you better pray you won't cross paths with him.
Griswyr latest mission involves assessing a new recruit wanting to join the Emissaries, and stopping a demon summoning. While he looks forward to the latter, he's not too pleased with the former.
However, it is said this new recruit is able to yield Grace and, If so, he could be a major asset to the organization.
But will this new recruit be strong and capable enough? Or liabity? Griswyr is about to find out...

*Wild line: fight scene. You strike at your enemy with your axe, three times, growling each time the axe connects. Their defense breaks, and you let you a crazed and delighted laugh. Then a yell of suprise and pain, as the enemy performes a surprise attack, stabbing in the stomach.*

Priam was Caius's best friend during their childhood years. Both orphans living by themselves in the streets of Thrycia, they teamed up in order to survive the harsh society, bonding and becoming the closest thing they ever had to a family.
Being born a Dretchling - an humanoid race descending from devils - Priam was naturally ostracized by others. In this sense, Caius has the only source of affection Priam ever had, leading to a deep sense of attachment to his only friend.
Unfortunately, this connection was to be broken. When a robbery went wrong, and Priam ended up killing a guard to save his best friend, Caius blamed Priam as the sole perpetrator. And the punishment for such capital crime would be hanging - something both were quite aware of.
Fortunately, Reverend Hale IV, using his divine jurisdiction, was able to absolve Priam of his crimes, but the damage was done. This betrayal would change Priam forever, and torn the boys apart.
More than a decade has gone by since that fateful event, and the two boys - now men - never met again.
The Priam we see in the story is a fragment of Ciaus's imagination, a memory of old times. He appears to Caius in his dreams, to remind him of his actions, to try and make up, to cry and plead Caius not to abandon him.
Deeply hurt and sad, but with a hopeful wish that a happier outcome is possible.

However, his legacy does not come easy upon him. His predecessor, Revend Hale III, was known as a cruel and unfair man, unfit to his role. So much in fact, he caused the Reckoning - a day where the skies were painted crimson, and the devils themselves came out to drag the reverend to hell themselves.
Despite this, Hale IV does his utmost to be fair and kind in his actions and judgment. The mantle is heavy, but one he bears for the sake of humanity.

Cultist mage is the oldest and most powerful member of the sect.
However, due to circumstances, Cultist mage is killed in the segment he/she/they show, but his/her/their purpose is achieved. Add some craziness and delight, just like a villain contemplating their magnum opus before perishing.
Both male and female sounding voices are welcome.

Cultist mage is spearheading Hecate's summoning, which puts him/her/them at a very powerful and important position within the sect. Is knowledgeable on the arcane arts, and sacrifices himself/herself/themself to successfully complete the summoning ritual.
"Ngh...hehehe! You have my thanks! Blood was the last thing we needed, and you spilled more than enough!" (A pained grunt - you were stabbed - transitioning into a low laugh. Despite you getting killed, this is exactly what you wanted. Revel in delight, as you've achieved your grandiouse objective.)
"Go on, cut me down! Mother will avenge us! You're as good as dead! *loud laugh*" (Delighted and crazed.)
However, one day, a robbery goes wrong, and Priam ends up killing a guard to protect Caius. Caius doesn’t handle the situation correctly, and accuses Priam of being the sole perpetrator - the punishment for killing a guard is hanging.
This squabble that breaks the boys apart is the moment to be voiced.
