Majora's Mask: 20th Anniversary Tribute

Project Overview

"You have met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"

-- The Happy Mask Salesman

Majora's Mask: 20th Anniversary Tribute is an upcoming fan project produced by ZeldaUniverse.net. It is slated for release in 2020 (date TBA) to pay tribute to the 20th anniversary of the game, "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask". This project is a collaboration of fully voice acted cutscenes from the video game, with the addition of remastered music tracks and newly animated scenes; this is a community passion project run by Zelda fans for Zelda fans. ***All roles are considered voluntary, however, upon being cast, you will be considered staff at Zelda Universe, which leads you to getting staff-only perks and access (details to be discussed).***

Zelda Universe has been producing Legend of Zelda voice acting projects as early as 2015. Featured voice talent across various dub projects include Chuck Huber (The Great Deku Tree; Ocarina of Time), NateWantsToBattle (Link; Skyward Sword), Alex Rochon (Hades; Hades' Misguidance), JelloApocalypse (Pit/Dark Pit, Hades' Misguidance), Kira Buckland (Princess Zelda; Ocarina of Time) & many more!

Short synopsis: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask tells the story of Link in his quest to search for his dearest friend, who he parted ways with in his previous adventure. Upon entering the Lost Woods and meeting a mischievous imp, unexpected events spiral. These twisted events bring Link to meet a terrible fate, by turning into a creature, a Deku Scrub. He then finds himself in another world, destined to end in just three days. Link, along with his new fairy companion, Tatl, form an unlikely partnership to stop the trouble making imp who brought Link to the fateful land of Termina.

~RULES AND GUIDELINES~

1. Don't be rude or offensive (Be nice to other people auditioning, and don't be rude or malicious on any regard; this can affect your chances of getting cast)

2. Audition once per character (You will need to compile all lines for a certain character into ONE audio file; do not submit the lines separately, or you will not be considered for the role. If you want to re submit your audition, then delete the original and upload your latest audition. Only your latest audition will be considered.)

3. Audition for as many roles as you like! (Just make sure you follow rule #2 above, only one audition per character. You are not bound to try out for just one role.)

4. Add variation, no more than 2-3 takes per line (We recommend up to 2-3 different takes per audition line. Use different voices when trying out, so we can get an idea of your range. Picture what you think the character would sound like.)

5. Have a quality microphone (We need to be able to hear you loud and clearly, with little audio issues as possible. If your auditions are quiet or too loud (peaking), then it's difficult to get the most out of your auditions with us. We also recommend getting a pop filter.)

6. All talent levels are welcome (You do not have to be a professional voice actor to be on this project. If you are, then awesome! We want to work with all levels of experience, even if this is something you're trying out for for the first time.)

7. This is a voluntary project (By auditioning for this project, you fully understand that this is a non-paid project. There are benefits to getting cast, which will be discussed upon getting recruited for the project.)

8. Have fun! (If you're having fun auditioning, then you're definitely doing it right. And break a leg!)

~Quick FAQ~

What is the objective of this project?

This project is to pay tribute to the video game "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask", which turns 20 years old on April 27, 2020. We are calling all voice actors who would like to play a part in contributing to this project.

What are we looking for, regarding casting?

Casting for roles will be determined by three major criteria factors: acting, voice and audio quality. We judge the auditions by how well they can act in a role, followed by the voice provided (especially in various ways), if the voice matches the given character we're casting for. Acceptable, audio quality is recommended and is a major plus. (no noise background, mouth clicks, audio peaking, low volume, etc.)

Where will I need to record?

All cast and crew members work remotely; there is no core studio or office, so you will need to record wherever is most convenient (your bedroom, recording studio, office space, closet, etc.) and be able to record your lines on your own time.

What is the time frame for this project?

Production begins in Summer 2019, shortly after the casting call, and will be ongoing for the remainder of the year. Work time is flexible during this time period, and everybody can work by their own schedule. Deadlines are scheduled near the end of this year, December 2019, going into the earliest of next year (2020).

Where will this project be published?

Directly from the Zelda Universe YouTube channel! Be sure to subscribe for update videos and when the project goes live. The project will be split up in multiple videos as "Parts", much like our previous voice projects. Exact release dates to be announced.

When will casting be posted, and what do I do from there?

Casting for this project will be complete before the end of June 2019, and all cast members will be invited to our private discord server. This will be the central hub of our work space, including project related announcements & cast meetings. Invites are only given by the head of this casting call (TrainerTrevino).

If I were to be cast, can I step out from the project for any reason?

Absolutely, but we will miss you. :( We highly encourage communication, especially in this regard. If you needed to step down from the project, please tell me (TrainerTrevino) in some way before you disappear. We wanna make sure you don't go missing!

Tatl

Role assigned to: Squeakychiona

Tatl is the Majora's Mask counterpart to Navi from Ocarina of Time, but expresses contrasting personality traits.

Voice range: High

Character traits: Harsh, rude, blunt, aggressive, direct, informal

Tatl frequently expresses her opinions. She is informal than Link's previous fairy companion, often speaking to him in a more straightforward manner. Tatl is initially aggressive, blunt and hostile in her treatment of Link, blaming him for the fact that she got separated from Tael, her younger brother. However, Tatl gradually warms up to Link as she grows to tolerate his company. She even goes out of her way to apologize for what happened to his horse. Tatl even admits that she admires Link for his acts of bravery. When questioned about an enemy (from Ocarina of Time), she tends to react with surprise, then criticizes Link for his ignorance.

  • [assertive, annoyed] Don't just sit there, Deku Boy! Do something!!! ...Why are you looking at me like that? What, is there something stuck on my face?

  • [sincere, apologetic] All that stuff I did to you... ...your horse... I...I apologize. ...Sorry. [rash] There! I apologized! So don't hold it against me, got it?

  • [surprised, instructing] What?! Don't you know about the Dodongo? It moves slowly, so you can circle around to its backside. Got that?

Tael is the younger brother to Tatl.

Voice Range: High to Medium (boyish voice)

Character traits: Timid, innocent, friendly, warm, thoughtful

Unlike his sister, Tael has a more innocent and timid personality, unable to stand up to the Skull Kid's constant abuse. Tael also understands better than Tatl all the suffering that the Skull Kid has gone through and why he does such terrible things. While Tatl blames Skull Kid's weak will and him having no strength of heart for his actions, Tael realizes that it was Majora's Mask that made their friend act that way.

  • [soft, sympathetic] Wait...Sis...Don't... Don't be so hard on the Skull Kid. ... He was lonely... ...the Skull Kid. ... The power of the mask made him do it. It was too much for the Skull Kid to handle.

  • [calling out, alerting] Swamp. Mountain. Ocean. Canyon. Hurry...The four who are there... Bring them here...

  • [brave, determined] I'll go!!! ...I don't always want to be running away! If only I had been stronger, the Skull Kid wouldn't have...

When under Majora's Mask's influence, Skull Kid is a childish demonic force that is absolutely unnatural.

Skull Kid (reformed) is the central character released from the influence of Majora's Mask. [RECOMMENDED: AUDITIONS FOR THIS ROLE MUST ALSO AUDITION FOR SKULL KID (POSSESSED).]

Voice Range: High

Character traits: Shy, frail, timid, friendly, innocent

Skull Kid was always a friendly little guy, except he would get too playful and cause a handful of pranks. He befriended the four giants, and consider them life long friends. However, they left the land and Skull Kid, leaving the latter to feel alone and betrayed. His reckless behavior turned into curiosity once he was drawn to the accursed mask, Majora's Mask. By the end of the story, with the evil power of Majora's Mask no more, Skull Kid regains his former self, feeling remorse for his actions.

  • [surprised, happy/sad] You guys... You hadn't forgotten about me? You still thought of me as a friend?

  • [happy] Friends are a nice thing to have... Heh, heh. Could you be my friend, too?

  • [reminiscing, happily] Eh-hee-hee...You have the same smell as the fairy kid who taught me that song in the woods...

The Happy Mask Salesman is a key character of the story in Majora's Mask. His emotions can easily shift from one to the next.

  • [informing] I was fine until I marched off to Snowhead by myself, hoping that I could drive off a demon. It had been wreaking havoc on Goron Village...Then the blizzard at Snowhead blew me into the valley...And now...Here I am...

  • [pleading, mournful] Heal my sorrows... Any way that you can do it will suffice... Please... heal my sorrows.

The Goron Elder is an aged Goron who acts as the tribal patriarch of the Gorons in Goron Village and is the father of the Goron Elder's Son. The Goron Elder had left the village and became frozen, resulting in his son crying loudly. On a quest to calm the child down, Link finds the ancient Goron Elder frozen at the Twin Islands. Link, as Goron Link, can free him by using Hot Spring Water, but the Elder refuses to acknowledge him, thinking he is an illusion of Darmani III. However, when he is told his son misses him, he teaches Link the "Goron Lullaby" introduction and implores him to soothe his son to sleep.

  • [oblivious] Oh! You're Darmani!!! But you're supposed to be dead! Am I hallucinating? Maybe this is also the doing of Snowhead's magic power... Hmmph... I've been made a fool of!

  • [ignorant] If I can see past the illusion, you'll vanish in an instant! No matter how long you follow me, it's not going to do you any good.

  • [conflicted] My son misses me... Ulp! Forgive me, my child! Your father has work to do! [serious] Darmani... Be you a ghost or a figment of my imagination, I no longer care. If you feel pity for my crying son... then please quietly sing my son to sleep with this song I am about to play on my drum.
