Love Potion no. 9
Project Overview
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Love Potion no. 9 is a dating simulator/visual novel project focusing on friendships and romance. We are aiming to release a demo by the end of August 2022, which will serve as an introduction to the characters and will be free to play. The full game will feature 5 romance routes as well as additional content.
We are currently casting for all of the characters that will be featured in the demo portion of
the game. We are also looking to have the full game voice acted, but will be searching to fill roles for it at a later point in development.
Due to budget constraints, the game will feature partial voice acting rather than full. This means instead of every line being voiced, we are only looking for certain ‘key’ lines, as well as short phrases and words, or various sounds (laughs, sighs, coughs, etc). Each character will have ~10 lines/phrases in the demo.
This is an unpaid opportunity for the time being. If we like your work, we may contact you for further VA opportunities in the full game, which will be a paid role.
Love Potion no. 9 is an LGBTQ+ game, and all of its characters are LGBTQ+. We are especially considering applications from members of the LGBTQ+ community, though this is not a requirement.
Although most of the characters in Love Potion no. 9 are feminine-aligned, gender is not a factor in casting these roles. We encourage you to audition for whichever character you think suits your voice best!
STORY
For centuries, the tension between vampires and werewolves has claimed the lives of many. Legend has it that the only way to reverse the transformative effects of a wolf’s scratch is through a witch’s potion, blessed with the essence of true love.

Forced into an impromptu three-week vacation in the witch-populated suburban town of Salem, can they find a way to get their hands on the cure before it’s too late?

Owner of the Witches’ Brew cafe and a self-proclaimed expert on the faces of Salem. Always on the hunt for the newest and hottest recipes, Juniper will stop at nothing to make her cafe the coolest hangout spot in town - even if that involves casting spells on the baking powder.
Medium-high voice, calm and soothing. American accent.
“Well, I’ve never seen you before! I consider myself a kind of expert on the faces of Salem, especially my regulars.”
[Amused and welcoming, but professional. Over-the-counter casual conversation as she’s brewing coffee.]
“I hate to say it, but I have no idea where that could be. I’ve only met the owner of that hotel once or twice. I don’t know him nearly well enough to think where he’d leave a key.”
[Genuinely apologetic. This isn’t her fault, but she really wanted to help.]
Please also make several sound effects: a laugh, a sigh, and a thinking sound.
A real sweetheart once you get past her tough-as-nails exterior. Together with her two best friends, Slayter is set to take the Salem punk scene by storm with her incredible guitar skills and undeniable charisma! The band… may need to actually release some music first, though.
Lower voice, laid-back but with unmistakable confidence. American accent.
“You enjoy looking through random windows? Huh? You wanna leak our shit while you’re at it?”
[Angry, accusative. She just saw the protagonist creeping on her band practice through a window.]
“Dude, you gotta follow us on EyeSpace. We’re the Graveyard Girls. We, like, haven’t played a gig in forever, but have some coming up that you should totally catch.”
[Bubbly, excited. Can’t get the words out fast enough; she loves talking about her music.]
Please also make several sound effects: a laugh, an annoyed groan, and a surprised sound.
A mysterious, cryptic presence spotted only by the town’s ominous lake, Willow surfaces only at night and is virtually unknown to most of the townsfolk. Legend has it that those prepared to leave offerings at the shore will see her true heart… or at least receive a thank you note in the mail.
Medium voice, leaning just onto the awkward side of shy. American/International accent.
“I appreciate the effort, but you really didn’t have to roll around in the weeds for me. I usually just spell my wand for this kinda thing.”
[Sheepish, but appreciative. As if she isn’t sure how to properly thank the protagonist.]
“Uh, excuse you? Mind your own business!”
[Shocked, somewhat offended. Someone almost just walked in on her in the bathroom.]
Please also make several sound effects: a shy laugh, a sigh, and a surprised sound.
College is expensive, and life is hard, so Lilith takes long shifts at the local gas station alongside her roommate Esme to pay the bills - but don’t be mistaken, she is NOT happy about it. The type of girl that you’re positive is hiding a super interesting and tragic backstory, but there’s no way she’s gonna open up enough for you to find out any time soon.
Medium-low voice, somewhere on the scale from bored to snarky 90% of the time. American accent.
“What aren’t you getting? You came into the store. I work here. Can I help you?”
[Annoyed, bored. Hates this job, hates having to talk to people for it.]
“Could I interest you, dear customer, in one of our bestselling keychains? Only a dollar with any purchase!”
[Heavily sarcastic. They’re just doing this to make a point.]
Please also make several sound effects: a sarcastic laugh, a genuine laugh, and an annoyed sound.
Previously an esteemed bodybuilder, Mitchie is now the owner of a mechanic’s workshop and uses her huge muscles and impeccable anatomical knowledge to… repair the brooms of the townsfolk. Ah, well, after such a chaotic sports career, the rest is sorely needed - and she’s bound to tell you countless insider tales whilst she’s working!
Lower, more mature voice, but unmistakably kind. Southern-leaning American accent.
“I wasn’t sure how you like your coffee, but milk and sugar are over there if you wanna adjust anything once you’re a little warmer.”
[Sweet, caring. Hint of insecurity - she doesn’t want to make the protagonist a bad cup of coffee!]
“Won this gold at the first international meet I ever went to. Probably the thing I’m proudest of - not counting owning this place, of course!”
[Upbeat, nostalgic. She’s reminiscing on her weightlifting career and is very, very proud of her achievements.]
Please also make several sound effects: a laugh, a sigh, and a surprised sound.
Don’t judge a book by its cover, and absolutely do NOT judge a girl by her office. Pippa is Juniper’s right-hand gal when it comes to testing new recipes for the coffee shop, but that’s just her side hustle - she’s Salem’s most infamous potion chemist, and runs a business out of the lot behind the back of the Witches’ Brew cafe that’d put everyone on Etsy to shame.
High voice, extremely bubbly and peppy. American accent.
“Yeah, this is my office! I was really lucky to get my hands on such prime real estate.”
[Peppy, high-spirited. They genuinely believe every word they’re saying despite working in a dumpster.]
“I’d appreciate it if you didn’t make such weird judgments about me from where I work. That’s really rude.”
[Horribly offended - the protagonist has just unknowingly insulted her dumpster office.]
Please also make several sound effects: a giggle, a sigh, and a thinking sound.
Esme is Lilith’s best friend, roommate and annoying co-worker all in one. Besides being physically unable to wear anything besides the name tag, they’re the ideal gas station employee - they’ve got eyes everywhere, literally. As long as you don’t get spooked by their appearance, you have a friend for life in Esme - and a never-ending supply of slushies.
Medium-low voice, bubbly, seems to be quite happy taking life as it comes.
“Sorry about Lilith, by the way. She really is great, she’s just having a shitty day.”
[Genuinely apologetic. They love Lilith a lot, and want the protagonist to feel the same way.]
“Oh, the, uh, Curl Up and Die hotel? Yeah, uh, the owner of that joint is… kinda fishy.”
[Smug. They think this is the best joke ever told - the hotel owner is literally a fish.]
Please also make several sound effects: a laugh, a sigh, and a confused sound.
GILLBERT (he/him)
The founder of the Curl Up and Die Hotel, the protagonist’s living quarters throughout the game. He’s 50% fish, 50% man, and 100% proud business owner. Don’t you dare try and take that away from him.
Low-medium voice. A constant air of anxiety, but like he’s trying to convince you he has everything under control at all times. RP or Cockney Accent.
“I’m Gillbert! I’m the owner of Curl Up and Die! ... And the doorman, and the front-of-house worker, and the janitor, and I'm in charge of housekeeping, and room service, and advertisements, too!"
[Flustered, but excited. Giddy to show off his achievements to his newest customer.]
“No problem at all! Your room is on the second floor at the end of the hallway. Best view of the lot, I think!"
[Proud. Trying desperately to gain the protagonist’s respect.]
Please also make several sound effects: a laugh, a sigh, and a ‘ta-da!’ sound.
