Project Overview
*STRONG PREFERENCE FOR DIVERSE ACTORS!!! LGBT, BIPOC, NEURODIVERGENT, ETC.*
Hello there,
“Light in the Darkness” is my passion project, a tremendously personal fantasy story in which I map out my personality, experiences, mindsets, emotions, etc. I created this intricate fictional world and these characters to explore myself. (for more information on this, see the disclaimer on the second page of the screenplay).
I have been writing this screenplay for over three years (years more went into planning, character design, writing other drafts, etc.) and now that the first two seasons are finished, I will be turning the first season into an animated/animatic series for my YouTube channel.
That is where you come in! I need a ton of voice actors for this project.
My screenplay has a diverse cast of characters. I will only allow actors from the same community as the characters are to voice them, so if you are white, neurotypical, and/or straight, you are welcome to audition, but please only audition for white, neurotypical, and/or straight characters. You will not get a role you are not suited for in this regard, no matter how skilled you are.
I will offer live direction via Discord calls. If you’d rather record your lines off call that is fine too, however, I would like to call at least once to talk about the character(s) you’re voicing, explain them a bit further, give direction on pronunciation of certain fantasy names or locations, etc. (If you really do not want to call, we can work something out, so don’t let that stop you from auditioning.)
Since I am a college student, my budget isn’t great so sadly I cannot afford to pay all the actors.

Flöwe is a sweet, kind, bubbly princess character who struggles a lot with worry and anxiety. She loves her friends and would do anything to protect them. She is a person of colour (African American) so please only submit auditions if you're part of that community.

"Oh, right! You mentioned you were friends with the new Sorcerer, good to hear you found him." "I don’t think everything is resolved just yet but I do think we’re getting somewhere."

Sarovus is an elderly Sorcerer, incredibly skilled and capable, and though he is aware of his own capabilities, he remains humble and kind. He has a sense of humour and he is rather confident. He has endless patience and is very wise. He is a person of colour (Asian) so please only submit auditions if you're part of that community.

"How glad I am to witness how much you’ve grown. I am so proud of you and I know God watches over you wherever you go. Though I fear what the future may bring, I know you’ll be alright. I just wish I could say that for the rest of the world."

"Magic is truly a remarkable thing. It allows us to accomplish many things that would be impossible manually of course, but it is so much more than that. Magic teaches us to wait and listen, to respect the world around us before altering it. The most successful magic users understand that and that is what sets them apart."

"What’s wrong with being old? I’m ancient, and it’s nothing I’m dissatisfied with."
Eneras is a middle-aged mage, though he’s pretty good with magic he has no experience when it comes to warfare, so he is crippled by responsibility since he’s in charge of an army. His actions are cowardly and self-preserving at first, but throughout the story he learns to step up and take responsibility.

"I need to see the Sorcerer, right away!"
(assertive)
"Then you should go on ahead to the base camp. I have business with the elves, but I’ll meet you there as soon as I can." "I said, get ready. By dawn tomorrow, we’ll have to stand our ground. Take heart! We are humanity’s last line of defence, and I swear, we will win. We have the Sorceress on our side, she’ll carry us to victory!"
(remorseful)
"I was too blinded by opportunity to realize how… How much I was asking you to sacrifice… Sure, I could tell you weren’t all that stable, but… I didn't think this would happen..." "Through my magic I have seen many a mind, each wonderful and unique. The reason I studied psychological magic was to understand and to help those with mental issues, not to develop them further… Trauma tears the mind apart… You must understand, I am not cut out for this, I’m a Mage, not a general. Please, please forgive me for making you go out there..."
Meëra has only two lines in the first season, but he's an important character in later seasons. I'm only turning the first season into animatics, so for this performance I'll only need two lines.
Meëra is a cautious, older brother, he cares deeply for his loved ones, especially his younger brother Aspian, and is wary of everyone else. He is kind-hearted and soft-spoken, around 16-17 years of age.
He is genderqueer (transgender) and a person of colour so please only submit auditions if you're part of those communities.
"We, eh, we don’t agree with them." (awkwardly)
[Aspian comes walking in with a large horse and is acting rather loud and excited, Meëra tells him to be careful.]
"Quiet it down, will you? You might spook him, have you seen the size of those hooves? He could seriously hurt you if you’re not careful." (cautious)
"Ever since they showed up again things have just gone from bad to worse!" (strongly)
Nicque is a happy-go-lucky character, he's genuine and will stand up for what he believes in. He's around 20 years of age but could sound a little younger, too.
He is queer (gay) and a person of colour so please only submit auditions if you're part of those communities.
"I’m so glad to see you…" (emotional)
"Yeah! I can’t wait to see mom again!" (glad, excited)
"And my dad’s always been like that, I remember back at the village he used to take every stray cat he could find home and give it a place to stay." (fondly, reminiscing)
Odore is a little girl of around 8 years old, her mother was killed a few years ago and her father is so broken by what happened that he's lost himself completely in fear and revenge. She's the only child in their household and she doesn't have any friends her age, so she's quite lonely. Overall a sweet and cute, yet sad character.
"I wasn’t talking about mama… I heard the lady you locked up today. She was really hurt, will she be okay?" (quietly, worried)
"I’m sorry for what my daddy did, I really am. But I’m glad you’re okay now. I should go back to bed." (genuinely, relieved)
"I just want to go outside again!" (miserable)
Leilana is an old dragon made of rock. She's tough and wise, an old soul, but she has a kind and soft side to her as well.
"It’ll be alright. It may take a while, but you’ll surely get through this." (calmly, kindly, reassuringly)
Celeste is an old dragon made of water. She's a benevolent, wise, and patient character, but she has a tough side to her as well. She doesn't like fighting, but she will if she must, with great ferocity.
"It’s a tremendous responsibility, but you need to have faith in yourself. He would not have burdened you with it unless he knew you were ready." (softly, kindly, reassuringly
"Stay here! I’m going to drown that necromancer!" (assertive, angry)
"The contract binds you for life; you are free now, aren’t you?" (softly)
Commander Joseph is a tough character who starts off as a bit of a jerk. He learns to be more respectful later in the story. I'm looking for a deep, gravelly voice, something like your typical drill sergeant.
He is a person of colour (African American) so please only submit auditions if you're part of that community.
"Don’t strike such a tone with us, soldier!" (angry, indignant)
"Well, look who decided to show up." (snarky, contemptuous)
"Look, we appreciate what you’re trying to do, and I’ll be the first to say I was impressed by what you did yesterday, but sometimes there just isn’t a peaceful way out." (genuine, assertive, decided)
